5 STAR Review & Giveaway for Promise Cove by Vickie McKeehan

Promise Cove is a novel of romance, suspense and the paranormal. My expectations are high and Vickie McKeehan does not disappoint. She starts out with the familiar, takes a twist and turn, then ends with ooey, gooey, warm fuzzies.

Drink in the gorgeousness of this awesome cover. I can see myself sitting in one of those chairs with my camera, a margarita and the next book in the series, Hidden Moon Bay, listening to the palm fronds rustling in the wind and enjoying the wonder of the beach.

The words rolled off his tongue, “Murphy at the store said you might need help out here.”

It didn’t make sense. With all that Scott had, it was Nick standing here talking to Jordan. It had been Scott’s family home, but his grandparents had suffered a financial hardship and lost possession of it. After Scott and Jordan were married, he bought the house. They started their married life with the thought of the B & B the house would become when the renovations were finished……………………… until he was called to duty in the service of his country.

Scott’s last words,  “Promise me, Nick….”

Nick had thought they would be his last words.

What was the promise?

Come on in and have a seat. Let’s talk about Promise Cove.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos   5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)

I am continually surprised when I read and love some Romance books as much as I do. I look at a book blurb like this and think – oh – girl meets boy, falls in love, they fight a little, will she lose him, and then happy ever after. I find that is not the case here. There is so much more to the story. The Goodreads book blurb says it will hold me breathless to the last page, how about the last sentence.

A small town. Of course I know some of what is to come. But wait. I expect Vickie to come up with something surprising and she does that flawlessly.

I keep trying to think of a way to describe Vickie McKeehan’s writing. It is so smooth, the words flow like water rolling gently down the stream. I never said I was a writer. LOL

She takes romance to a level so far above the usual, that it takes a while for me to see how it will get to the happy ending. I am always trying to figure out the end of a book, from the very first page. In this instance, I don’t want to know what is coming. Surprises can be very nice. ^_^

I cannot imagine war. My mind will not go there emotionally. I cannot begin to get a sense of what it would be like to know you can be shot or blown up at any second. What about the wives, keeping the home-front running, while waiting for their spouse’s return? And what if they don’t return?

Our service people’s bravery is something to be inspired by. I would like to thank all our military people for the wonderful job they do in protecting us and our way of life.

Her characters come alive on the pages as you enter their world, hoping and wishing that all works out for them. I am usually drawn to a strong female character in the books I read. I guess because I am female and I want to walk in their shoes. This time?

I fell in love with NIck. Yep, that’s right. You heard me. Read on and tell me you wouldn’t.

Nick – hypervigilent – fight or flight response in soldiers returning home from war.

Had he inherited a gene that kept him from emotional attachments?

When Vickie describes Nick with Hutton it blows my mind. This is the thing that stood out most in the book for me. She describes his wonder at learning he has feelings and emotions, just becoming aware as if a baby himself. So sweet. My eyes watered at Nick’s amazement of Hutton and Vickie describing his awe as Hutton would speak, drum and just do normal baby things. I couldn’t put it down. How could you not fall in love with Nick yourself? Plus, he’s pretty HOT.

I always like a little chuckle when I am not expecting it.

“…closest thing to a hunk….UPS man who gave her a three minute thrill…”

I loved the ending. To me a great romance ends with a little surprise and happy ever after.

There is no doubt in my mind that I will grab every book Vickie McKeehan writes, knowing she will take me from my world into hers. At the moment there are three more books in the Pelican Pointe Series and I can hardly wait to see where Hidden Moon Bay takes me.

I picked this book up on a free day at Amazon. Thank you Vickie for sharing the love.

I know I keep rambling on and on, but every time I edit the review, I think of something else I want to include. With that said, I’m going to read this ONE more time, then publish it. LOL

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Vickie McKeehan   Vickie is the author of six novels, including The Evil Trilogy and the Pelican Pointe series. She’s a hardcore lover of books who grew up listening to her mother tell fascinating stories about ghosts and other tales full of characters she wasn’t sure ever really existed.

A self-proclaimed beachgoer and ocean-lover, she lives in Southern California with the love of her life. When she isn’t working on her next manuscript or screenplay, she loves to be outdoors.

In her spare time she tries to grow things which other people commonly refer to as gardening. She loves reading all kinds of books, both fiction and non-fiction, loves to play video games, and enjoys watching football with the hubby. If you’ve ever read any of her books, you know she’s a die-hard Raider fan, which means she has the patience of Job.

She lives for chocolate, but then who doesn’t? She’ll kill for a cup of coffee in the morning. She’s convinced the best food on earth is French fries. And she could easily be a vegetarian if it wasn’t for bacon.

  1. I know someone who served in the military. My MOTHER served in the US Navy!
Is that what I need to enter the giveaway?
    Susan
PS, I love the book cover!

    • You are in the running. ^ _^ That is so cool, that your mother was in the Navy. The closest person I ever knew was a neighbor boy down the street from me. He served in Vietnam and it nearly killed him.

      • I enjoyed reading the Excerpt of Promise Cover. I Tweeted and Fb ‘d. I live with a Vietnam vet, an ex paratrooper. Good luck with your book. and keep a little romance in your life always.

    • My dad is in the military and has been to Afghanistan 3 times. He would go for 6 months then a year and it varied. I am very interested in promise cove. I love the paranormal romance genres. Thank you!

  2. Thank you, Sherry, for the kind praise for Promise Cove. I’m so glad to know you enjoyed the book. I wanted to convey the sacrifices the military men and women make when they sign up. Not only that, but during their absence, the families they leave behind are subject to loneliness, depression, along with that feeling of not knowing if they will ever see their loved one again. I did my best to make it realistic. And I LOVED Nick, even though he often did not like himself very much. 🙂

  3. You did a fantastic job of it. I think Nick had survivors guilt. I have been lucky and have not had war touch me directly.

  4. Thanks for the review, Sherry. Now I want to read this book! My hubby spent 15 months in Iraq. Our children were almost all high school age at the time. One left for college while he was gone. It never occurred to us that our family would never be the same again when he left. Besides missing him, I think that was the hardest thing. Luckily, he returned to us. I’m grateful for that every day of my life.

    • Thank you for the sacrifices your family made for us. I wish you all much happiness. I’m glad you liked the review. ^_^

  5. I know someone who served in the military. My brother in law, Fred Guy, was in The Royal Navy and also served during the Falklands War. He came home safely to us thankfully and is now enjoying retirement. Love the book cover, I can imagine myself sat on one of those chairs sipping Piña Colada!

    • I would like to thank him and wish him many years of retirement happiness. I can’t get over the cover myself. It is just gorgeous.

  6. No one in my family is in the military, I don’t think. I know many neighbors have family members serving now. I have a magnet on my suv which thanks all of the men and women in all branches of the military for their service.
Spectacular review Sherry. I have got to get started on this book now!

    • Showing your appreciation, I like that. Thanks Laura. If this first book of The Pelican Pointe Series is such a fantastic read, I can’t help but think the others will be too. They are stand alone novels.

  7. My Grandad served in the Navy, he fought in WW2 and outside of war he escorted Al Capone to his trial. Unfortunately he died when I was a baby but my Mother has told me so much about him I feel like I have always had him with me.

    • Escorted Al Capone, cool. I used to read all the Mafia books. Sorry you lost him but it is great that your Mother shares his stories with you. Good luck and have a great weekend.

  8. My dad served in the navy in the Korean War, and my brother served in the navy during peace-time.

    • Thanks for sharing and your family members for serving! Have a super weekend.

  9. My brother is currently serving in the Army. He’s been to Iraq, and has been stationed at several different forts in the last four years. He plans to continue to serve our country. We’re very proud of him!

    • I am proud of him too. I cannot imagine what it is like. It kinda freaks me out when I try to put myself in their shoes. I wish your brother the best. Good luck in the Giveaway.

  10. I’m currently living in army quarters, my dad is in the Army and has been since I was 3ish (17 years) and my uncle is in the RAF. My best friend is also in the army. A lot of friends are (I think that’s due to living close to army camp though) 😛

    P.S I also love a happily ever after 😉

    • Thanks to all for their service. Must be an interesting life growing up in the military. Happy ever after is always a good thing. ^_^

    • I am glad they are back and well. Thank them for me. And you as well. Hope you all have a fantastic fourth of July!

  11. My dad was in the Army during Vietnam, he was drafted. He is my hero, as is everyone who serves.

    • So true. Vietnam was a different world from today. I appreciate his and the rest of your family’s sacrifice. I hope you have a wonderful fourth of July holiday.

  12. Yes , i have family members who served in the military and friends in the service now.

    • Their commitment to our way of life is so very much appreciated. Thanks for sharing Georgiann.

  13. Yes, my brother was in the military, and I lived next to the base for 6 years. I got to know a lot of wonderful people from all over living there. And I wouldn’t change that for anything. They always have my love and support! Always!

    • I would like to thank him for his service. And you as well. I know the whole family contributes when someone is sent overseas. Hope you are having a great summer.

    • Welcome Dan. I am happy to meet you. I hope you enjoy Goodreads and all of us readers and bloggers. I look forward to seeing you around.

  14. A young man in our church named M. J. Tucker enlisted in the army as a Lt. JG last year. Love the cover on your new novel.

    Gerry

    • Hi Gerry. The cover is super fantastic isn’t it. I can see myself sitting in one of those chairs with my margarita and Kindle. lol

  15. My Grandpa’s were in the US Army, my Dad and one Uncle was in the Army, Another Uncle was in the Navy, my best friend is currently in the Army.

    • WOW. You have quite the military family. Thanks to them all for their service. Have a great weekend.

  16. My husband is active duty army. He’s been to Iraq twice, and Afghanistan once. Three deployments is enough! Hopefully he can stay home with us for awhile now.

    • Thanks to all of you for your sacrifices on our behalf. I hope he can stay home with you too. I cannot imagine what it would be like walking in your shoes. I hope you have a wonderful fourth of July and good luck in the giveaway.

  17. Book looks awesome! My Uncle Ray served two years in Korea. Good luck to all who enter!

  18. We’re a military family, I suppose. My Dad was in the Army, I was briefly in the USAF (medical after less than a year), and my husband just retired from USAF last year! So, I suppose my answer is Yes x3 😀

  19. I come from an Army family:

My son is currently serving in the Army and has been for the past 11 years. He has been to Afghanistan 3 times and Iraq 2 times. Because he is an Airborne Ranger he has also done some secret missions that I could not know about. Whenever he goes on these missions he only lets me know how long he will be gone. He plans to retire in 9 years as a Captain.

My father retired Army also. He did two tours in Vietnam and we traveled all over the world.

My two brothers did 6 years each in the Army during peace time in the 1980’s.

I also did 2 years in the Army in the 1980’s during peace time as a Field Medic (91B).

My uncle is retired from the Marines after 25 years. He also did two tours in Vietnam.

  20. I’m a fellow “Indie Author,” who’s served 26 years in USAF as a combat reconnaissance pilot (U-2 Dragon Lady) in more campaigns than can be mentioned. I write and support other indies and would love to be the recipient of your give away. I’m also among Amazon’s top 30K reviewers….should be enough to push this response over the top. Best of luck and happy writing.
    G

  21. My daughter was in the military; a Marine. Wish she would have made a career of it, but other things called! Bless ALL our troops!

  22. Your book sounds wonderful. I know so many people who have served and who have served.

  23. Both grandfather’s served (WWII Air Force and Korean War Navy), I have a cousin in the marines right now, and my aunt just married a Navy vet of Kuwait. I think there are a few others as well, but it’s a big family and I don’t know everybody.

  24. My father and my husband were both in the Navy, both veterans. My sister’s deceased husband was also in the Navy. I look forward to looking into your books. The premise sounds promising. I am not a regular romance reader, so romance/suspense always grabs my attention 🙂

  25. I lived in Fayetteville, North Carolina. A town based around the military base, Fort Bragg. I knew several people who served. Saw the best and worst sides of them.

  26. My dad, cousin and best friend were in the Navy. My brother-in-law was in the Marines.

  27. Love the review, Sherry. Promise Cove sounds like a fantastic read.
I’ve had many people close to me serve in the military. At the moment, I
have two grandsons who are serving our country over seas.

  28. I’m from Vietnam. My granfather fought in the Vietnam war in defence for our country. He did not die but he got infected with a chemical called “Dioxin”, which made his offsprings – my uncle and my dad – born deformed. Sorry if I brought about a gloomy atmosphere, I’m just telling my story anyway. Love the book, too. I’d love to have a chance to read it 🙂

  29. I want to thank everyone for commenting. It has been very interesting hearing from you. I don’t believe there is anything good or glamorous about war. It just is. I wish everyone well and want to thank you again and again for your sacrifices on others behalf!!!!

  30. My dad was in the military.. And, I have a handful of friends that have also served.

  31. I served in USN/USNR and retired in 1997. Good friend also retired from USNR. Interesting times – much better now than during Vietnam era. Public has learned to separate the politicians who make the policy from the soldiers and sailors who carry out the actual battles.

  32. no I have never known anyone that is in the military or has ever been. I don’t get out much to be honest and I don’t see a lot of people. It is very sad, wish I knew more people of different backgrounds.

  33. My first cousin’s husband is in the Marine Corps and is currently stationed in Japan.

  34. My grandfather was in the military and was also part of the Vietnam War… He just passed away last year and we miss him so badly

    • I am sorry for your loss. His service on our behalf is very much appreciated.

  35. Well, let’s see. My Dad is retired USMC, His dad was in the Navy, my mom’s dad was in the Army. A couple of my uncles were military too. I work in a library on a USMC base. So I know LOTS of friends and family in the military. I support them EVERY DAY!!

  36. My son in laws brothers are in the army and are out in Afghanistan at the moment. My grandfather and uncle were both in the army and my grandad was at Dunkirk. Other than that I have friends who’s sons are in the army too.
My son’s didn’t want to go down that route but they do actively encourage those that do.

  37. My father served – and thank goodness, that’s where he meant my Mother!

  38. My grandfather was in the navy and served during WWII. He met my grandmother before he left & when he got back, they married 🙂

  39. My husband served in the army during the Vietnam war. He’s an amputee, disabled serving his country. He has so many scars, both physical and emotionally. He was wounded when he was barely nineteen years old. Despite that he’s built a really good life for me and our children, hardly ever complaining. He’s my hero!

    • Thank you for sharing Debi. I would also like to thank your husband for his service. I am sorry it cost him so much, but very happy that he has overcome his hardship and you are happy.

  40. My older brother is a Captain in the Marines, and my father was a Marine before him. They’re both heroes in my book but not because their soldiers. Their honor and courage they invest in every day life inspires me on a daily basis. 🙂 They’re my role models.

  41. My grandfather served in ww2, and my grandmother was a nurse there. He got caught behind enemy lines once for days. I’ve heard a lot of stories from him.

  42. Both my grandfathers, many uncles, My Dad and my nephew. I am so proud and grateful to them all.
