I love simple covers that make me look deeper to see what is hidden at first glance and I am always eager to see what evil Jason Parent has to share.

MY REVIEW

Freaking me out from the getgo. Jason Parent has that ability and uses it well in Hearing Evil, Book 2 of the Cycle of Evil series. I love getting a glimpse inside Jason Parent’s  head.

If I hadn’t already been claustrophobic, I would be now.

Because Hearing Evil is Book 2 it makes it harder to write a review without giving away too much for those of you who want to read Book I, Seeing Evil, which I highly recommend reading before moving on to this one.

Michael is one of the unfortunates. Life has dealt him a bad hand. His gift keeps him apart, alone, except for Sam. He has the ability to see people’s future with a simple touch.

His vision foretold the future, but his nightmare may be trying to tell him something else.

Back and forth, from Michael to Sam – it keeps the suspense simmering on a slow boil.

So intense. I fear for Sam and Michael, an unlikely family. Can they save each other? Evil, so much evil. If you like your stories a bit on the paranormal side with a mix of the human filth drug up from the bottom of a pond or crawling out from under a rock, white knuckled reading that leaves you asking why them, what have they done to deserve this, then Hearing Evil is for you.

I love to open my mind as I open a book and let the author take me to a place I have never been. Jason Parent makes that so easy for me.

WOW. Just WOW. I love that I could not figure out what twisted, scary path Jason was taking me down. So much action. A woman cop and a child psychic…can they heal each other?

I was traveling when I read this, but took notes whenever I had the chance. I wanted you to know how much I loved it and every chance I got I picked it up again. But, maybe, because I was traveling, it didn’t grab me as much as the first book, Seeing Evil. If you feel the need to have a good scare, I highly recommend it.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Hearing Evil by Jason Parent.

GOODREADS BLURB

Michael Turcotte wants nothing to do with his so-called gift—the ability to see other people’s fates simply by touching them. Michael decides to spend his summer searching for answers about his past. He can’t rest without the sounds of forgotten tragedy echoing through his dreams, but reconstructing his memories will come with a whole new set of problems even he can’t foresee.

Detective Samantha Reilly has always looked out for Michael, but now that she’s taken him into her home, she fears her maternal instincts are lacking. When a brutal gang sets off a chain reaction of crimes, Sam struggles to choose between the two most important things in her life: her job and her new foster son. Fate intervenes when Michael is kidnapped, forcing her two roles to collide.

As Michael’s past meets Sam’s present, their bond will be tested while a city crumbles around them. They’ll need all their skills and a lot of luck in order to survive.

ABOUT JASON PARENT

Jason ParentIn his head, Jason Parent lives in many places, but in the real world, he calls New England his home. The region offers an abundance of settings for his writing and many wonderful places in which to write them. He currently resides in Southeastern Massachusetts with his cuddly corgi named Calypso.

In a prior life, Jason spent most of his time in front of a judge . . . as a civil litigator. When he finally tired of Latin phrases no one knew how to pronounce and explaining to people that real lawsuits are not started, tried and finalized within the 60-minute timeframe they see on TV (it’s harassing the witness; no one throws vicious woodland creatures at them), he traded in his cheap suits for flip flops and designer stubble. The flops got repossessed the next day, and he’s back in the legal field . . . sorta. But that’s another story.

When he’s not working, Jason likes to kayak, catch a movie, travel any place that will let him enter, and play just about any sport (except that ball tied to the pole thing where you basically just whack the ball until it twists into a knot or takes somebody’s head off – he misses the appeal). And read and write, of course. He does that too sometimes.

  1. I’ve enjoyed many of his books. Reading a soon to be released collection of horror stories right now and his contribution, Keeping Up Appearances, is only two away from where I stopped last night. I love how he incorporated the sense of hearing in this cover!
