Next up on the shelf is In Contempt by Christopher Darden with Jess Walter.
Whenever there is a controversy and a book comes to light, I want it.
I remember the O J Simpson trial so well. I remember where I was when the verdict was rendered. Do you?
MY FRIDAY 56
An athlete’s worth in college sports can’t be separated from his performance on the field or court or diamond or on the track. We were commodities, and as a young black man coming to terms with the legacy of slavery I did not want to be a commodity.

MY BOOK BEGINNINGS
The clerk, Deirdre Robertson, stumbled over his name, and for just a moment a last bit of hope hung there on her voice. But I knew. I’d known from the beginning, from the moment I walked into that courtroom a year earlier and saw that jury. I could see in their eyes the need to settle some score. And I was the only prosecutor who knew what the score was. Still, to hear it announced like that was like a swift baseball bat to the stomach.

I prefer my mysteries to be fictional that way the story has to make sense. The whole OJ thing just didn’t make sense for me. This week I am spotlighting The Skeleton Garden by Marty Wingate – a cozy mystery. Happy reading!
I do too, but whenever something super controversial goes on, I want to know more. The truth…who knows the whole truth????
I am enjoying the mini-series that is on right now…and I just downloaded the Dominic Dunne book that was all about the trial and behind the scenes. (I read it years ago, but want to reread it).
Actually, I hated when the trial was on TV while it was happening…the networks were literally consumed by it…nothing else was on in the daytime.
Enjoy…and here’s mine: “THE GIRL IN THE RED COAT”
Ooo Dominic Dunne’s book…that should be a good one. I used to watch his TV show all the time. I hated the trial when it was on too. It took over everything. The media tends to go super crazy when they get their teeth into something.
I’d read this one out of curiosity alone.
Happy weekend!
That’s exactly why I did it.
All I remember is that I couldn’t wait for it to be over cause I was tired of hearing about it. Wasn’t curious about it at all.
While it was going on, I was subbing for a receptionist at a TV station, so it was IN MY FACE, day after day.
I like how it looks like a cover for Life magazine. Nancy was obsessed with the televised courtroom scenes. I never watched any of it.
So true, it does. Good catch. I was subbing at Eric’s TV station at the time and couldn’t get away from it!
I remember my shock and horror as this the chase began, the trail began and the verdict was given. I don’t think we’ll ever really know the truth about what happened. Here’s my Friday meme

Not my usual genre, but it sounds fascinating nonetheless.
