The cover wasn’t the only thing that had me eager to read David Barnett’s My Hungry Friend. The title makes me wonder…Who’s hungry and who will be eaten. LOL
Does the cover or title make you curious?
MY REVIEW
Running the gauntlet of the homeless that are collected on the block, he makes the biggest mistake of his life.
“Everything’s got a price,” she said.
And he was going to pay it!
Is it real, or all in his head?
Will he take anyone down with him?
I wondered.
Spiders…one of the creepiest critters to crawl the face of the earth. Just thinking of, writing about them, makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck and chills run up and down my spine. That is the kind of scary I like. Not Jason coming at me with a chain saw.
The subtle creepiness and anticipation of what is to come gives me plenty of time to watch his world crumble.
The writing is great and the story is haunting.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of My Hungry Friend by Daniel Barnett.
GOODREADS BLURB
When Mike Roberts kicks over a homeless woman’s cup of change, she whispers a cryptic warning:
“Mind the cracks . . .”
Now the Boston he knows and loves is unraveling around him. But his life is not the only thing at stake. His mother, a once acclaimed writer lost in the late stages of Alzheimer’s, depends on him to have a home. And then there’s her caretaker, Cassie, who might want something more from Mike than the friendship they’ve long shared.
As his city balances on a razor’s edge, Mike will have to hunt down the daughter of the woman he wronged and uncover their terrible family secret . . . or be plunged into a world of crawling horrors and unspeakable hunger.
A world from which no one has ever returned.

I’m scared witless of spiders but I love reading books about them as long as there aren’t small spiders on the cover. Any spider that could be real on a cover freaks me out! I finally got a second hand version of The Hatching in hardback which has no spiders on it!
I guess you are worse off then me. Hate them, but love to read about them.
Both the cover and the title intrigue me. Thanks for reviewing this one. It sounds like the kind of book I’d enjoy!
Glad to hear it, Priscilla.
I’m interested in this one as well and spiders don’t really bother me, even thought I’ve been bitten twice and needed medication both times. I didn’t see them bite me so it didn’t bother me too much.
I ended up in the emergency room once, so I am very cautious and always have Benadryl on hand.
This definitely sounds like a creepy and chilling read. I’m about the same way with scary reads/movies. The whole serial killer thing tends to be predictable, but give me some creepy creature and I’m freaking out over the littlest noises and shadows. LoL
It’s that sneaky subtle kind of scary that gets me every time.
Spiders definitely creep me out! I might like this one when I feel up to a good scare. 😉
Sounds creepy and you know how I feel about spiders..lol Glad you had a good time with this one.
You’re in fine company. lol
I skipped past reading your review as mine won’t be published for a few days yet. Glad you enjoyed it, Sherry!
