Shadow of the Oak by Eric Kent Edstrom
I find Eric’s writing to be fascinating and entertaining. His characters and worlds come from someplace else, not always sure from where, but I do enjoy visiting them.
Me, Bill and Becca were meeting at the dam to discuss our business – a comic book series we were writing .Chrissy, Becca’s younger sister, had tagged along, but that was okay. She sat by the water reading her book.
We heard Chrissy’s terrified scream and ran to where she had been on the riverbank. No Chrissy.
l ran, looking for her, following her screams. I spotted her near the top of a tree. How did she get up there? Then I saw it. It had orange eyes, big fangs and wings wrapped around its body.
Chrissy fell and I tried to catch her. Becca ran to her to see if she was hurt. Chrissy didn’t know how she got up in the tree, so I told them what I saw. Nobody believed me.
Kizmo, my online friend, helped me find the creature – it was a Chupacabra.
The information read – Nicaragua, three-foot wing span, myth. Kizmo asked me if I lived in Mushkobewun. When I told him yes, he went on to tell me about an Indian dig and a famous murder that happened in 1977 or 1978 in our area. A body had been found in a tree.
Chrissy fell ill and I knew we had to find the Chupacabra in order to save her.
5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)
I received this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
Eric’s books always have some really awesome book covers. The title for this book is descriptive of the adventures of the trio in trying to solve the mystery of Chrissy’s illness.
Even though the book is very short and can be read within a couple of hours, I found it to be detailed and thorough in the plot and with the characters. Sal became my hero and I will be curious to see how he grows and develops into the young man he is becoming. Eric is currently working on the second Sal Van Sleen book and I can hardly wait to go on his next adventure with him.
I have also read Undermountain (my review HERE) and Afterlife (my review HERE), from Eric’s Undermountain Saga and loved them. I still think of them often and they bring a smile to my face as I remember them. Book III is in the works and I am eagerly anticipating getting my hands on it. With Shadow of the Oak, Eric does not disappoint.
Eric is an author, songwriter, husband, father, and guitarist. He is the author of Undermountain and Afterlife, the first two entries in YA science fiction series The Undermountain Saga.
Eric loves working out with kettlebells and eating pretty much anything with peanut butter.

I finished Undermountain and am almost done with Afterlife. Is this as great as they are? I have to have it!!
Yes. Eric is a great writer. His books capture me from beginning to end and take me on a fun and adventurous ride.
Forgot the monster! Bigfoot scares me the most. Not the sweet, cuddly one, but the mean, nasty, smelly sasquatch!
Sherry. You forgot to leave the link on your giveaway page on goodreads! I’m leaving one there for ya. Get your booty over there!
Thanks so much for your generous review of my novella Sherry! And good luck to those who enter the giveaway.
I loved this post!! And as far as critters go… has to be bugs of any kind… heebee geebees!!! Thanks, Emily
Don’t you like our spiders Emily? They like you:) Let’s not forget the creepy clowns! lol
Ok fu, I’m getting the shivers just thinking about it.lol
All I can say to that woman is…..HEEBEE GEEBEES! I gotta get the bug spray!!!
Hee Hee! Tell Sherry we need a can of RAID!!
Oh man, all I got is some wasp spray. lol
What critter- in general (like an irrational fear) – zombies. Hands down. They freak me out. In real life – spiders. Until they have little briefcases with a treaty drawn up, labeling where they can and cannot be and when, I will just act like a total girl and freak out. My screams will be proportional to the spider’s size and hairy creep factor.

i loved your comment. it had me laughing out loud. little briefcase…treaty…how funny. i feel the same way about spiders.
I’m pretty critter friendly. I’ve even had snakes as pets and am hoping for a baby ball python fro Christmas. However, I found Hermit Crabs to be quite creepy. And wasps cause to run away screaming.
Thanks for the totally awesome giveaway!

I remember as a kid playing with garter snakes in Michigan, but I couldn’t imagine having one in my house. Hope you get your Christmas wish.
I’ve spent time on the cape and live in florida, so I see hermit crabs all the time. It’s funny what creeps people out.
Ok, I have a strange one. I am scared of pigs. I don’t know what it is about them, but they scare the heck outta me.
that’s one i haven’t heard of before. it’s not like we can help our reactions, though. good luck in the giveaway.
Scorpions freak me out!

I would have to say snakes (big ones in particular) and then rats of any kind. I won’t go near either of these even if they are someones “cute little pet”!!
i love your avatar of the frog. how cute is that. lol
My critter fear is bed bugs. No seriously, if you look up bed bugs or know any one who has them it’s terrible. The thought of being infested with them is scary. *shudder*
But if you’re looking for the ‘scream like a little girl and run away when you see them’ critter it would be spiders. And centipedes. And everything that has too many legs. (lol)
I know people with pet rats and just love them. You tend to see very little bugs or other critters in their home.

I agree with the bed bugs. I have heard such nightmares about them. Watched a documentary on TV and almost made me quit traveling.
I especially agree with you about spiders. I have an awful fear of them, my skin crawls with I even think about them. lol
Good luck.
