One Sentence Reviews @trishben_books @hollyblack @CLCannonAuthor @SJMaas

I won these three books from a giveaway. Because of all the pandemic issues, I will have to wait for Kingdom of Blood and Spirit by Trish Beninato and Riley Hunt, but Trish did send me Cruel Prince, A Court of Thorns and Unknown Realms to tide me over.

A COURT OF THORNS BY SARAH J MAAS

A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1)

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas is a fantasy romance that quickly caught me up in the Feyre’s life as she struggles to survive and take care of those around her, joining forces with a mysterious masked man to face a common evil and I wasn’t even halfway through when the first tear formed.

THE CRUEL PRINCE BY HOLLY BLACK

The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1)

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black was a total surprise to me, taking me so deep into the story I couldn’t put it down with a smart, independent, strongwilled character that puts her life on the line to create a better world, and now accepts a world she was forced into as her own…but be sure to read to the very end, because there is a special short story that left a smile on my face and eager for more.

UNKNOWN REALMS

Unknown Realms

I love the cover for Unknown Realms, a collection of twenty short stories and novellas that can be read in small doses while standing in line at the store, etc, and had me traveling through magical realms, alternate dimensions, riding dragons, dodging monsters, holding on for dear life and loving every minute of it.

  1. Loving the covers of both A Court of Thorns and Roses and The Cruel Prince though not so much Unknown Realms.
Both the former books appeal to me, the first one because a tear was shed {generally the sign of a good book} so early on, the second because of what you describe as its ‘smart, independent, strongwilled character’. The latter book however does not appeal nearly as much {and not just because of its cover} as it is a collection of stories as opposed to a novel which I’m not a big fan of.

The Nervous System (Dewey Decimal, #2)

I won a copy of The Nervous System by Nathan Larson, the second book in the Dewey Decimal series of noir crime, and to catch up I read the blurb from the first book, The Dewey Decimal System, and I quickly entered Dewey’s life in his dystopian world, a character that has so many issues…PTSD…OCD…ADD…but a heart of gold…or so we think, because he also has amnesia and I can ‘see’ him as a superhero, bumbling and stumbling his way through his mission.

The Laroarian Conflict

There is so much intrigue that I couldn’t figure out the good and the bad as war rages and I do wonder who will be left standing as the bodies fall, and I do recommend being careful who you choose as your fest friend, because they may not be there for you at the end…AJ seems to revel in killing his characters off, willy nilly.

The Cats Came Back (A Magical Cats Mystery #10)

Mrrreow. The Cats Came Back by Sofie Kelly does not fit the saying…you can’t judge a book by its cover…because what you see is what you get, a cozy mystery, some magical cats who keep their eyes on the pulse of this small town, a murder to solve and a woman to sleuth it out with and finding the meaning of ‘best day ever.”

The 6:41 to Paris

Cécile and Philippe find themselves, old lovers, side by side on the 6:41 to Paris and their minds fill with thoughts and feelings from the past, the way their relationship ended, the what ifs, the should haves, neither aware, yet wondering what the other was thinking, whether they should say something…and then…. LOL..You don’t think I was actually going to tell you, do you?
