Sunday Post #431 August

Hello fellow bloggers. It happened…Mr Wonderful was given administrative leave and will not be returning to work due to a reduction in force. We had planned for this, but had hoped he would make it a couple more years, at least. I am not unhappy about it, though we are having to make some tough decisions. He has some freelance worked planned, so we won’t feel any adverse affects before next year. They will continue his pay through mid December. Isn’t it ‘funny’ how so many people lose their jobs around the holidays? He is not one to sit still, so the main thing will be keeping him busy so I have blogging time. 🙂

We were lucky that Zeta blew through with no damage to our property. Myself, I have had enough of that to last me for the rest of my life. BUT, living here in Florida, I am sure that will not be the case. Right now, there is a crispness in the air and the sun is shining.

Stay safe and have a good week.

  1. Glad Zeta didn’t do much harm, but sorry about your husband’s job. I do find it odd that companies want to ruin people’s holidays, but I guess our season coincides with then they do budgets for the next year. ((HUGS))

    • yeah, that’s true. and they said if they didn’t let him go, two people would lose their jobs. thanks for the good thoughts sam

  2. They certainly like to do the job cuts near Christmas for sure. I guess being prepared for it doesn’t soften the blow much but at least he has a bit of work to do in the short term. I really hope things work out ok as we go into another year *hugs*

    • thanks for your well wishes chuckles. it is always appreciated. we’ll get through. i have been retired, am older than him by eight years. we have planned for him at 62, so the real issue we are debating is how to cover health care costs. i have medicare but he will have to pay…and we are both at risk with covid, so he needs good health care. we are also waiting on election results. maybe something good can come afterwards…that will help us all

  3. I hope you will figure things out and do well. The weather has been trying in many places this year. I have been happy with NC. We are far enough from the coast we don’t get hurricane threats too much, just wind and rain. Stay safe and well! At least the political ads will be over soon.

  4. Man, that is tough timing for the job, but glad he has a go-get ’em spirit and some contract work lined up for a bit. Hopefully, something permanent and better comes along in the mean time. Great news that Zeta didn’t get cranky with you.

    Have a good week, Sherry!

    • thanks sophia. i don’t think, with covid, he will be returning to a regular job. i don’t feel too bad that they let him go because of covid. they were not safe at his workplace and even had kids running around the building…unsafely.

  5. I’m so sorry to hear about your husband’s loss of work. I’m glad he has a while to get things figured out, though. Insurance is always an issue. We were fortunate to find a plan that we could afford, and I hope you are able to do the same. Sending good thoughts and prayers for the coming months.

Good news that Zeta didn’t hurt you. These storms. It’s been a terrible year in so many ways.

    • thanks deb. i think we have one more month of hurricane season, but it really cooled down overnight, so maybe that will help

  6. So sorry about the cuts. Hope maybe some new opportunities may open up. Glad the storm didn’t hit you badly. Glad he has a little work to tide him over. Yes, it really sad that they couldn’t stretch it past the holidays.

    • we were really hoping to make it a couple more years, then we would be even more prepared, but it is what it is

    • we’ll be okay. just hope we don’t have to use too much of our savings and are figuring out the best way to go

  7. I’m sorry to hear about your hubby losing his job. Good thing you planned ahead and it seems you have a good attitude about it. When a door closes a window opens. I have a feeling your hubby will be back working soon enough. I truly hope it for both of you!

  8. I’m sorry to hear about your husband’s job. It’s such hard times.

I’m in Florida, too. We’ve been lucky over here as far as the storms go. Alot of rain, but nothing terrible. Still, we have the whole of November to worry about.

I love the looks of the books on your TBR. Those covers are definitely very pretty. Enjoy them!

Hope you have a great week!

    • thanks for checking out the tbr. yes, one more month to go. with the cool down, maybe that will help repel the storms. lol

  9. Sorry to hear about the lay off! Hope you get things sorted. Glad that you had an idea it was coming, though. Yeah, I wonder how my husband won’t be bored in retirement so he doesn’t drive me nuts, lol. Happy reading and take care! 🙂

    • hi rachel. that is the biggest thing with me…him not getting bored and being like a child, bugging me all the time. lol blogging is suffering a bit and no planning ahead, so hopefully these next couple weeks of him working freelance will help me get ahead. he’s in the tv business and loves his work

  10. Sorry to hear that Sherry, although it sounds like you guys had planned for it. Still, it’s not fun when it happens sooner than you’d like. Also, glad that zeta didn’t do any damage to your place. You guys have been busy with storms down there!

Glad the sun is shining though! It’s gotten cold and cloudy here, but hey Michigan right? Not a huge surprise. 🙂

    Take care this week!

    • yep, i am a fellow michigander and don’t miss it. all the beautifulness of the seasons i do miss, but that’s okay. i have a lot of photos to look at

  11. Sorry to hear the job ended earlier than expected, Sherry. That definitely necessitates some decision-making. I hope this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Thank goodness there was no damage from the storm.

    • no…i don’t feel it is a bad thing. we had planned and hoped for him retiring at 62…the biggest expense, of course, is health insurance, but we will be okay
