Have You Ever Seen This At The Beach?!!!

I went to the beach and found this unusual sight.

After five days without power in the Gulf of Mexico, the more than 4,200 people aboard the Carnival Triumph returned home to the U.S., with many of them telling their horror stories for the first time.

Passengers began to disembark the damaged ship around 10:15 p.m. CT Thursday in Mobile, Ala. The last passenger disembarked the ship at 1 a.m. local time, according to Carnival’s Twitter handle.

Passenger Brandi Dorsett was thankful to be home, especially for her mother, who was with her on the ship. Dorsett said she wasn’t pleased with the doctor on staff.

“My mother is a diabetic, and they would not even come to the room because she cannot walk the stairs to help her with insulin. She hasn’t had insulin in three days,” Dorsett said.

The Carnival Triumph departed Galveston, Texas, last Thursday and lost power Sunday after a fire in the engine room disabled the vessel’s propulsion system and knocked out most of its power.

Check out this interesting post about Patrick Jones and The Wolf’s Moon

I loved this book and wanted to share with you this Fantastic Article by Indie House Books and Patrick Jones.

Indie House Books logo

It has been one year ago today that my novel, “The Wolf’s Moon”, was launched. After a year, one might expect the memory of that day to have faded – at least a little. It has not. Everything from my first cup of coffee that morning to the cup of black tea before retiring, are still vivid in my mind.

.
Rich and Dana Burnett, who were the managers of Blazer’s Pub and Grill, encouraged me to have the book signing at that establishment. I was a mainstay at Blazers’s, taking many lunches and suppers there, so it seemed more than right. Tom Burnett, the owner, and his lovely wife, Jenit, gave their blessings as well.

.
The story takes place in the small town of Maple Hills that is situated in Crawford County, Missouri. I fashioned the mythical town after the true city of Bourbon, Missouri and yes, there is a Crawford County.

.
By that Saturday morning, I found several articles in local newspapers about myself and the event. I was starting to get excited.

.
The car was packed and ready for the three mile trek from my home to Blazer’s, by eleven. The signing was to start at noon.

.
My wife, Sandy, is my Business Manager. She was ready for whatever the day brought and far more openly excited than me.

.
Rich and Dana had the tables ready inside while I put up the banners outside. Sandy and I carried in the cases of books. I knew most book signings usually yield sales of eight to ten books. I was ready for that to be the case.

.
Before we even had the books unpacked there was a line forming. It went from there.
The event was to be from twelve noon until two, and then from four in the afternoon until six. That never worked. Once it started with the first sale before noon, Sandy and I were selling books until well after eight that evening.

.
It was a cold rainy day and I expected that fact to influence book sales. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

.
My son and his wife, Gail, along with their three small sons surprised me by showing up. They drove seventy-five miles to be there. My daughter and her husband with my oldest grandson and only granddaughter arrived minutes after my son. A woman I grew up with and had not seen since graduating High School walked in to see me. She lived further away than my daughter.

.
Blazer’s had two sides: The bar side and the restaurant side. It was standing room only and barely that.

.
The population of Bourbon is around two thousand and I felt almost all turned out. Even people that did not buy a book came in to wish me well. I was signing books while I ate.
I never had writer’s cramp in my hand but I came dangerously close that day.

.
Rex, an old Gunny Marine, sat at the bar nursing a Rum and Coke, while he read my book. Sitting next to him, reading, was the Director of the Ozark Regional Library system, Mr. John Mertens. I donated one book but before leaving, for a very long drive home, he bought two more books.

.
It would be so easy to go on, giving a blow by blow of each hour, but I won’t bore you. Sandy and I went home that night with quite a few dollars, very few books left over and memories of how satisfying a lot of hard work can be.

.
Most of all, I found out how many friends we made in a little town in The Ozarks.

Cover Reveal/Giveaway – Destiny by Laura DeLuca

.
Destiny
.
Gabriella is a witch. The problem is, she doesn’t remember.
She repressed the memories of her powers years ago when her mother was
murdered. Now, the warlock who was responsible for her mother’s death has set
his sights on Gabriella. He is determined to use her fear to turn her to the
dark side of magick…even if it kills her. Her mother’s spirit is reaching out
to warn her, but even that she pushes away. Desperate to save her daughter, the
spirit finds a male witch–one that just happens to be in love with Gabriella.
Darron is more than willing to help but the two young witches will have way
more to battle than just an evil warlock. There are overbearing jocks and petty
rich girls who get tempers flaring and often set Gabriella and Darron at odds.
There is more to the story than Gabriella and Darron could even
imagine. There are terrible secrets to be revealed, battles to be waged, and
lives will be lost. Only after Gabriella and Darron both come to terms with who
they really are, and open themselves up to the true meaning of magick, can they
have any hope of fulfilling their destiny.

may be their last. Along the way, they meet new allies, face devastating
treachery, and battle not only the Dark Coven, but the darkness within
themselves. When Gabriella finally comes face to face with the cousin she never

.

.

To celebrate the release of the new covers, Author Laura DeLuca is giving away a prize pack that includes a oil diffuser, incense and burner, decorative wooden keepsake box, lavender scented drawer liners, a crystal point, stone pendant, and signed copies of Destiny & Destiny Unveiled with the original covers.

.
The Whimsical Pixie Etsy
Shop is also donating a beautiful altar set inspired by the original
cover of Destiny Unveiled.
.
The book’s cover was recreated on the altar box lid; the design was
first set in pyrography, painted, stain and given a protective coating
of high gloss polycrylic. The flower Celtic knot pentagram is worn by
Gabby and her friends as a symbol of unity and has been pyrographed on
the altar tile. Red paint was floated around the perimeter to
coordinate with the Blood Moon of the cover. A red rose in full bloom
was used on both millefiori* pieces; the censor and charcoal tongs. It
symbolizes the Gabby’s destiny being unveiled.
.
.
A scene in the
book tells of the young hero doing spell work on the beach using a drift
wood wand to cast a circle and sea shells to form a pentagram. Both of
these have been included as well as censor sand and a roll of charcoal
disks so you can perform your own ritual. Whether you’re just starting
to walk the path or have for years, this kit makes an attractive
addition to your ritual tools.

Lancaster HouseLancaster House
by Taylor Dean
Paperback, 304 pages
Published June 7th 2012 by Createspace

Premise:

Zoe Grayson needs a change. So, she moves to another state, purchases an old, dilapidated 1920s Victorian Mansion, and sets out to restore it to its former glory. As she begins the restoration, she finds herself falling in love with the old house . . . not to mention its illustrious builder, Mr. Lancaster. Zoe becomes obsessed with the house as she discovers its secrets; hidden rooms, secret passageways . . . and a mysterious man who seems to think the house is his. Who is he? More importantly, how does he live in her home unseen and unheard?

The unexpected answers leave her reeling—and questioning everything she’s ever known. To her dismay, Zoe’s actions land her in the local psychiatric hospital, scheming for ways to return to Lancaster House . . . and the love of her life.

The Middle Aisle (Lancaster House)The Middle Aisle
by Taylor Dean
Paperback, 356 pages
Published November 26th 2012 by Create SpacePremise:

Zoe Grayson is back in Lancaster House, ordered to bed rest for the duration of her unexpected pregnancy. Doctor Wade Channing, her overzealous psychiatrist, is living in Lancaster House, taking care of her, waiting on her, and tending to her every need. It seems to be the perfect arrangement.

There’s just one catch.

She has to tell him her story—everything that has happened in her life since the moment she escaped from Serenity Hills. It’s been quite an adventure to include renovating another home and a walk down the middle aisle.

But, that’s all over now. Nothing is real. It never was.

How did she end up in this miserable situation?

GUEST POST

Lancaster House contains many secret passageways and hidden rooms. It’s definitely part of its charm. The house itself is a main character in the book without me intentionally writing it that way. But Lancaster House isn’t the only one keeping secrets. I couldn’t resist adding a couple of secrets of my own into the writing of this book.

First I need to explain. I vividly remember sitting in my California Lit class in high school, listening to my teacher explain the hidden meanings John Steinbeck placed in the Grapes of Wrath—the types of things that are in Cliff Notes. I was mesmerized. I was impressed. Like the preacher’s name was Jim Casy. Initials: J.C. By no mistake did Mr. Steinbeck choose those initials—he chose the name Jim Casy to mimic the initials Jesus Christ. At least this is what my teacher taught me. Did Mr. Steinbeck confirm this? I have no idea. I’ve always wondered if these types of things are made up by people who study classic literature or if the author really intended it that way! Still, the concept fascinated me. Next I learned about East of Eden. The father’s name is Adam, and his son’s names are Caleb and Aron. (Father Adam=C for Cain and A for Abel) At any rate, you get the whole initial idea thing. To a young student of literature, this was intriguing and I never forgot it. (I grew up living only an hour away from John Steinbeck’s infamous Cannery Row, hence the obsession with Steinbeck.)

With the above thoughts in mind, I set out to name my hero. Since the visual of Adam Lambert was the image that inspired my main character, I decided to stick with A.L. as the initials. Andre Lancaster. Yes, I’ll put secrets in my book just like John Steinbeck, I thought. Brilliant.

Okay, so it’s not that amazing. But it felt amazing. The kind of thing that made me smile to myself whenever I thought about it.

There is one other similarity to Adam Lambert and American Idol placed in Lancaster House.  During the American Idol season, Adam Lambert would show up on stage dressed in his casual attire, with his hair flopping over one eye, looking like an anime rocker. In the next performance he’d show up with his hair slicked back, dressed in a classy suit, singing “Tracks of my Tears.”

To view Adam’s performance of “Tracks of my Tears,” click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc2lXKuXUD8

A total transformation. I couldn’t resist having my main character do the same.

Freebie – and Heather McCorkle will tell you why.

Why Author’s Make eBooks Free

From Heather McCorkle’s mouth to your eyes.

You’ve probably noticed independent authors setting the price on at least one of their books as free from time to time. And if you’re traditionally published, or not yet published, you may wonder why in the world they would do such a thing. An indie author friend of mine recently discussed using Kindle Select with me and she couldn’t understand why someone would set their book to free. It’s contradictory, she said. And she’s right, in a way. However, there is a method to this madness.

When you download a book from Amazon, B&N or any other online retailer~regardless of whether or not it’s free or costs money~that novel goes  up in the sales ranks. With each download, it goes farther up the ranks with the optimum rise occurring when there are many sales in one day (the entire system starts over day by day so if a book sells one a day for a month it won’t rise in the ranks nearly as high as it would if it sold thirty in one day of that month. VERY important key to remember!). Sales ranks are what determines the order that a book shows up in searches. Let’s say you’re looking for a YA fantasy novel. On Amazon’s book page you click on Teens. Everything that shows up on the next page, and any more specific pages you click on (sub-genres and such) is determined by sales rank. The books that are on the main pages (getting there with the best sales ranks) get noticed and sell even more.
.
For each download of a free book, that book goes up in ranks too, getting it farther up the lists and onto the main pages where it will get noticed. When this happens people see not only the free book and are more likely to download it (helping raise it’s rank and supporting the whole process) but they also notice an author’s name and are more likely to check out there other books. That’s one way a free book can get an author more sales. Another is, of course, if the readers enjoyed the book and come back to buy the author’s other titles. So, crazy as it sounds, now you know there is a method to the madness.
.
.
That said, all this week for Valentine’s Day week (and to help it’s sales ranking 😉 the eBook of  The Secret of Spruce Knoll is free on Amazon! I hope you’ll download it and
spread the word. And a huge thank you to each of you that does. 🙂

Emily Guido’s Book Signing in Birmingham Alabama

This post comes straight from Emily Guido to you!!!!!!

IT WAS A WONDERFUL TIME!

First of all, you all know that I abhor having my picture taken!

I just don’t take good pictures ever!

Slide1

So, I am coming out of my comfort zone… so to speak…with these pictures.

It took 14 hours  of straight driving through to arrive in St. Louis, Missouri!

I turned my radar detector on and made it in my Dodge CHARGER SRT8 with HEMI engine in record time.

By the way… the Charger is what my Hero, Tabbruis drives!  Funny how life imitates art???

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
photo (4)
We visited with my husband’s family and that went very well.
I don’t know if you watched “Everybody Loves Raymond” and or “Martha Stewart“… so if you didn’t, you won’t get this at all…
198551
Matt’s mom is the original “Everybody Loves Raymond/Martha Stewart” Combo Mother-in-Law.
Every meal was to die for.  But it’s hard to explain how “Debra” I feel sometimes.
However, his family put up with my editing and working on my book while I was there.  His family even came to Birmingham with us.
I have to say, it was very nice of his family to come and give me and Matt their support!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Birmingham Library

Then we pack everything and go down to Birmingham, Alabama for the Book Expo at the Birmingham Library.

UNFREAKINGBELIVABLE… I have NEVER seen a library so big!

The Birmingham Library had two buildings, it was beautiful and airy! Just perfect!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
photo (3)
We stayed at the Tutwiler Hotel right across from the Library and it was GORGEOUS inside and out!
The room was comfortable and VERY luxurious!
I was blown away at how nice it was! If you ever need to stay in Birmingham…stay at the Tutwiler…it is MARVELOUS!!!
And no, I’m not getting a commercial endorsement fee…haha!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The night before the Book Expo we dined at the Applebees with my family, another author Daven Anderson of “Vampire Syndrome” and my Publisher PDMI Direct, TC McKinney, his wife Nessa and his two children Wayne and Christian.

By the way, his kids are adorable!

My books box set

My Publisher TC and Nessa presented me with WONDERFUL news!

PDMI, my publisher took my first three books and put them in a LIMITED EDITION GOLD BOX SET of my first three books, “Charmeine,” “Mactus,” and “Accendo.”

There will be ONLY 250 of them made. SQUEEEEEE!!!

The box set looks awesome and it came with a certificate of authenticity.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CHARMEINE Put together the way I ORIGINALLY wrote it!!A DREAM COME TRUE FOR ME!
Then that wasn’t enough to make my jaw fall on the floor…wait until you hear and see this.
They put all my first three books together in one paperback novel the way I originally intended it!!!
I started to cry.
You have no idea what it’s like to see your ORIGINAL NOVEL put together the way YOU WROTE IT!!
I was so happy and looked at that thick bound book novel and thought about all the work and struggle it was to have that precious book in my hands!
They even had it put together as a “Signature Edition of CHARMEINE” which means it has my signature embossed in the novel on the front cover and in the novel itself!
OH MY GOD!  How wonderful!
I’m welling in tears just writing about it
Because folks… I was just in Heaven and still am to see my “Baby” come to life the way I envisioned it to be!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

At dinner the night before and presented with the Limited Edition Box Set and MY ORIGINAL Novel they way I intended it to be!

I am really happy in this picture, I was just recovering from crying and the shock of the GOLD EDITION novels bound together and then my ORIGINAL signature edition novel!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
photo (13)1
The next day was the Book Expo!
I was very excited and also nervous.  My husband took this picture. I didn’t know he took it until I saw the pictures. Before the Expo started I had to say a prayer and THANK GOD for letting this day come.
I am not a righteous or overly religious person…no.
However, I do have to thank God for all I have been given and the chances I have had which most people don’t ever have.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Book Signing for someone

The Book Expo was great!  These are some pics my husband, Matt took.

Yes folks…he is very similar in a lot of ways to Tabbruis…hubba, hubba!

The signing was fun and people in Birmingham have got to be the nicest people to be so welcoming to me and the other authors.

More pictures of signing books!

It was so much fun!

Daven Anderson Author of "Vampire Syndrome"

Met PDMI’s other Authors like I said before Daven Anderson of “Vampire Syndrome”!!!

PDMI Direct Publishing only part of the Authors and Owners

Then this is a picture of all of PDMI’s Authors and Owners!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My wonderful mom! 92 and still going... even with Alzheimers!
Now it was time to visit my family and my mom.
We took Matt’s family back to St. Louis and then came to Evansville, Indiana where I was born and raised.
I visited family and Mom. She has Alzheimers and didn’t recognize me at all but she talked to me.
However she looked great and is being well-taken care of!  She is doing awesome and keeps on being the wonderful lady she is.
I LOVED SEEING and BEING WITH HER!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Returned home to NEMO! Just made it in time and was THANKFULLY safe. BUT we are buried in snow!!!

The Storm “NEMO” cut our visit short and we left Evansville, Indiana speeding home in my Charger to race the storm back to New Jersey!

I’m not ashamed to tell you that THANK GOD the Charger is a high performance machine because we raced her all the way home!

We made it!

But it is shovel time!!

EVERYTHING is shut down and a lot of people don’t have power or heat!

Again LONG gas lines…just like Sandy!!!

But New Jersey is tough and we didn’t get it as bad as Long Island did!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well Folks that was my wonderful trip!
It was fun and exciting!
Now, I have a book signing much more closer to home at the
County College of Morris on MARCH 4th in Randolph, New Jersey!
I am thanking God for these wonderful opportunities,
AND I thank you too!
