Everything about Under The Board walk talked to me, especially the title and cool cover, and now I am trying to decipher what cover I am supposed to use and because the title was changed too. I am disappointed about the cover and title, but the blurb still makes me want to read it. The second cover is the newer one.

Under the Boardwalk (Pajaro Bay, #2)
Boardwalk Cottage (A Pajaro Bay Mystery Book 2) by [Barbara Cool Lee]

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

Wounded artist Hallie Reed comes to Pajaro Bay for a summer job at the funky old amusement park owned by her college roommate’s family. But she finds more than she bargained for: danger, romance, and a new beginning await Hallie during her summer at the beach, and she—and the whole town—will be changed forever by what she finds Under the Boardwalk.

Welcome to the charming little village of Pajaro Bay, with its cast of quirky characters and its cottages overlooking the sun-drenched coast.

Goodreads ratings: 3.83  ·  649 ratings  ·  61 reviews

I added this on 10.4.12. Like I said above, I grabbed this because of the title, Under The Boardwalk and the fabulous cover. I still want to read it because I love anything beachy and I want to know what she finds Under The Boardwalk. How about you? Which title and cover speak to you?

If you look at her website, it’s obvious why she changed the cover and title and it does make the series appear branded.

Books From The Backlog – Distorted by Roberta L Smith @bertabooks #booksfromthebacklog

I do read anthologies and collections and I know some readers don’t care so much for them. I hope you will still take a look see. You might just find a hidden gem.

Distorted

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

Five tales where life takes a turn for . . . well, you decide.

Bed of Thorns – She’s rich. She’s bored. Time for some excitement. Little does she know where her latest relationship with someone a tad too young and handsome will lead.

In His Shoes – How do you get even when justice isn’t served? And if you succeed, what then? In the end life seems to have a way of working these things out for all concerned.

R.I.P. Katherine Colton – A screen siren who committed suicide in 1970 is celebrated even today. But the question lingers. Did she kill herself? This movie star’s greatest fan just has to know.

The Miracle – If you want something bad enough — like being the person you’ve always admired — can your wish come true? Maybe so. But not necessarily in the way you think.

Skyglow Undercover – He’s sent undercover in what used to be one of New York City’s grandest hotels. Problem is, he knows nothing more than that. He’ll find out why, all in good time.

Goodreads rating: 4.50  ·  ·  10 ratings  ·  5 reviews

I love that cool cover and that’s probably why I grabbed it. Sometimes a quick read is just what I need and to have five stories in one book sounds like a treat to me. It may only have five reviews and ten ratings, but it has my caught attention. What do you think? Do you read anthologies and collections.

Books From The Backlog – Private Deception by Tamara Ward @AuthorTWard #booksfromthebacklog

.

As of 6.15.20, I have 2483 books waiting……..

Private Deception

Amazon / Audiobook / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

Sassy private investigator Jade O’Reilly thinks she’s hit rock bottom when, in the midst of obtaining photos of a cheating spouse in a second-story apartment, she falls off a swing set to the feet of an attractive mystery man. But the next day, when Jade discovers the man’s identity—he’s a detective with the local Sweetwater, NC, police—she learns that the cheating spouse was murdered and Jade herself is a suspect. Rock bottom just got a new definition.

Private Deception is the first novel in the Jade O’Reilly Mystery series by Amazon Bestselling Mystery and Romantic Suspense Author Tamara Ward. The novel’s prequel, the short story Jade O’Reilly and the Ice Queen, joins Jade O’Reilly and the Mysterious Musician, a short story that follows Jade on an adventure after this novel. In all three, action and light romance combine with engaging characters and humor for page-turning whodunits set in the fictional coastal town of Sweetwater, NC.

Any time I see an eye featured on a book cover, it gets my attention. Then we add a sassy female private detective, I feel we can’t go wrong. I love romantic suspense novels and I am looking forward to reading Private Deception.

Night of the Purple Moon (The Toucan Trilogy, #1)

Amazon / Audiobook / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

Thirteen-year-old Abby Leigh yearns for her family to be reunited – in Cambridge, not Castine Island where she feels like an outsider. Her younger brother, Jordan, is having no problem fitting in and making friends.

Everyone on Castine Island is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the purple moon, caused by a comet entering the Earth’s atmosphere. Scientists expected this thrilling phenomenon and food companies are churning out purple-colored products in celebration of the comet’s arrival.

The morning following the comet’s debut Abby and Jordan make a chilling discovery: every adult on the island is dead. The children of the island band together to withstand their new circumstances, and the older kids quickly learn a gripping truth about their own ticking clocks. It’s only a matter of time before they succumb to the comet bacteria, but can they raise the next generation to survive?

Goodreads rating: 3.73  ·  1,925 ratings  ·  360 reviews

I added this back on 10.2.12. This Amazon freebie has a cool cover. I love books that take place on islands. There is nowhere to run and you have to face what’s coming at ya, in this case a comet. And the children are on their own. Does it have a familiar ring to it?

Resonance

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

The shift is coming. Soon. Dr. David Carter knows this. However, he’s a geologist, so ‘soon’ means anywhere from tomorrow to a thousand years from now. People are dying. Now. Drs. Jordan Abellard and Jillian Brookwood are standing at the edge of SuperAIDS. Or are they? They won’t be able to figure it out if they can’t get some authorization signed – and soon. But they’re peons and no one is paying attention. Whole species died at the last polar shift. 65 million years ago. Right now Dr. Becky Sorenson has some seriously mutated frogs in her lab. In L.A. Bees are making abnormal columns on the side of the freeways. In Georgia, birds are migrating out of season. It all makes a sick kind of sense when the doctors consider that the last magnetic shift is strangely coincidental to the dinosaur die-out. And the only similarity in the problems today is that each is occurring in a ‘hotspot’ – a pocket of reverse polarity tells them all them all the shift is already here.

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas…except when it doesn’t.

Desert Rice (Desert, #1)

GOODREADS BLURB

Samantha Jean Haggert is a beautiful twelve-year-old girl—but no one knows it. All they see is an awkward boy in a baseball cap and baggy pants. Sam’s not thrilled with the idea of hiding her identity, but it’s all part of her older brother’s plan to keep Sam safe from male attention and hidden from the law. Fifteen-year-old Jacob will stop at nothing to protect his sister, including concealing the death of the one person who should have protected them in the first place—their mother.

Sam and Jacob try to outrun their past by stealing the family car and traveling from West Virginia to Arizona, but the adult world proves mighty difficult to navigate, especially for two kids on their own. Trusting adults has never been an option; no adult has ever given them a good reason. But when Sam meets “Jesus”—who smells an awful lot like a horse—in the park, life takes a different turn. He saved her once, and may be willing to save Sam and her brother again, if only they admit what took place that fateful day in West Virginia. The problem? Sam doesn’t remember, and Jacob isn’t talking.

A Deceit to Die For

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

A mysterious letter hidden in an old manuscript…
Merciless assassins determined to recover it…
An ordinary family fighting to survive…

When history professor Ian O’Brien purchases an old collection of letters and books, he unknowingly steps into the world of a shadowy organization. His family is soon caught up in a web of intrigue and deceit spun out of a 16th century Muslim conspiracy that somebody still wants to keep secret. This powerful and ruthless group will stop at nothing to recover the document. Events spin out of control, tragedy strikes and the quest for answers begins. Facing impossible odds, they race against time to discover the truth and save their loved ones. In the process, they learn just how powerful and enduring a lie can be.

Meticulously researched and drawing on historical facts, Luke Montgomery’s fast-paced, thought-provoking thriller exposes the dark history behind the cultural and religious challenges we face today. This explosive and courageous debut novel forces us to grapple with issues of identity and faith. In the words of one reviewer, “Never again will you utter the words ‘gospel truth’ without thinking of this book.”

“Luke Montgomery’s fast-paced novel is a political and religious tour de force. This book puts a face on the clash of civilizations unfolding in our day. Too true to call fiction, too gripping to put down. Well-researched, brilliantly executed!” –Joel Richardson, New York Times Bestselling author

“It was about time someone created a skillful and intelligent page turner using Turkey and its politics as the base.” -Yesim Erez, Cumhuriyet

“An EXPLOSIVE novel.” -B.Johnson, High Tide Journal and Washington Times communities.

“Truly an ‘inside’ job.” -Tim from Seattle

I added A Deceit To Die For by Luke Montgomery to my TBR on 9.28.12. Sounds great to me. This past year I have been reading more historical fiction and though religious stories aren’t at the top of my list, a manuscript and assassins have me curious.
