GOODREADS BLURB

There is a darkness moving over the land, obscuring hope, erasing freedom. It threatens to destroy. It promises to shackle. But wait … as the shadows close in, a small band of patriots rise up to fight. But Jeff and Anne Krieg can’t help but wonder Is it too late for freedom? Did we wait too long? After two terms of the most liberal president in decades, America continues its plunge down the slippery slope of socialism by electing yet another politician, hell-bent on destroying all the Founding Fathers held dear.

I won a paperback copy back in 2012 and added it to my TBR on 7.6.12. It sounds like a good one to me.

Goodreads rating: 3.83. It is available on Kindle for 4.99.

The Bay of Foxes

GOODREADS BLURB

An erotic tale of passion and power and their dangerous consequences

In 1978, Dawit, a young, beautiful, and educated Ethiopian refugee, roams the streets of Paris. By chance, he spots the famous French author M., who at sixty is at the height of her fame. Seduced by Dawit’s grace and his moving story, M. invites him to live with her. He makes himself indispensable, or so he thinks. When M. brings him to her Sardinian villa, beside the Bay of Foxes, Dawit finds love and temptation—and perfects the art of deception.

I won this ARC quite some time ago and thought I read it. I don’t have it marked read and I don’t really remember it, so….It is erotica and that is not a genre that is at the top of my reading list, but I do try to read everything that sits on a shelf in my house. So….I will need to read it again to be sure. It looks like a fast read at 235 pages. I added it to my TBR on 7.6.12.

America Rising

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

When an old friend of Josh Henson’s is found beaten to death in the parking garage of the San Francisco radio station where he works, the former newspaper reporter turned Internet investigator is drawn from his home in the bucolic Florida Keys into a world of political maneuvering, intimidation and assassination, all parts of a battle not only for control of the country but for its very soul.

In a novel that anticipated the Occupy and Move Your Money movements, Henson becomes involved in a campaign to take back America from the corporate and political elites that have hijacked it for their own purposes and profit. As he does, he is drawn into another battle, this one fought ruthlessly and without quarter by a shadowy group of men and women who bring their own “particular set of skills” to bear against forces that will stop at nothing in defense of wealth and power.

America Rising is a novel for our times, a novel of audacity and hope, where “change you can believe in” is more than just a slogan. It is not a screed. It’s a story of people banding together to ensure, in the truly revolutionary words of Abraham Lincoln, that “government of the people, by the people and for the people will not perish from the earth.”

I have more than 3,000 books on my want to read shelf on Goodreads. I am going through them, checking my kindle and bookshelves, and if I don’t already have them, deleting them. BUT, how am I ever going to read all the ones I do have? I try to ignore new freebies coming my way, but not doing a very good job of it. LOL I don’t even have all my Kindle books on the reading list.

I am sure the fact that the book takes place in the Florida Keys is one of the reasons I grabbed this mystery. I downloaded America Rising by Tom Paine from Amazon on 7.5.12 and added this to my TBR on 7.6.12. It is currently 3.99.

The Man Who Fell From the Sky

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

An appaloosa horse is the only eyewitness to a killing, a sack of Montana sapphires is missing, and only Heaven knows the whole truth.

In “The Man Who Fell from the Sky,” some themes of “Ghost” meet “The Horse Whisperer” in this full-length, paranormal whodunnit mystery that is packed with romantic suspense, danger, dark secrets and high spiritual stakes.

Cody Bliss, angel detective, is assigned by Heaven to the mortal body of J.R. Wilder, a paroled murderer, in order to solve his own previous untimely demise and take care of unfinished business with Mariah, who is unable to move on with her life until she knows what happened to her missing husband.

Against the backdrop of a western Montana ranch near Glacier National Park, and in the company of Mariah and her tight-knit family, Cody (inside the body of J.R. Wilder) must solve the murder mystery using forensic clues and the spiritual powers of an angel. He must also yield to J.R., whose body he is using, as J.R. falls in love with Cody’s widow.

This full-length novel’s compelling characters are all seeking truth and redemption. Only an angel detective can set things right, and the consequences for an entire family rest in his heavenly hands.

Angel detectives, a mix of the ghost and horse whisperer…what’s not to like? Sounds like a good one to me. How about you?

Mindbenders

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

If you could hear the thoughts of every person for three blocks around–the regrets, rationalizations, commercial jingles, the lies that hide what they can’t bear to think—how could you ever trust anyone? And if you could make them believe anything you wanted, how could you ever trust yourself?

Max Renn is a legend of the Soviet mind control program, a genetic experiment, the product of three generations of psychics bred by the state for their power. Before his first mission, the Soviet Union collapses and he disappears.

We meet him twenty years later in the Everglades, keeping as far from people as he can get, until his best friend–his only friend–is murdered and he is forced to assemble a team of people like him to fight the international conspiracy behind the murder.

“A dead-on thriller for the decade . . . . I can’t imagine anyone reading this and not wanting more” — Thomas F. Monteleone, author of the NY Times bestseller The Blood of the Lamb and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Writing a Novel

“Ted Krever has been a writer to watch, now he’s a writer to read. Do not miss MINDBENDERS.” -F. Paul Wilson

“Ted Krever is a great storyteller but more importantly, the stories he creates and writes are ones that I want to read. In this ADD era, where even e-mails are considered too long, Ted’s work commands my attention. It is definitely worthy of yours, too.” -David Leaf, biographer and award-winner writer/director/producer of such films as ‘The Night James Brown Saved Boston,’ ‘The US Vs. John Lennon’ and ‘ BEAUTIFUL DREAMER: Brian Wilson and The Story of SMiLE.’ (less)

I love the subject matter and have read more than one book about mind control and government programs. Add in the Everglades and this one was a no brainer.

GOODREADS BLURB

When teen psychic Dawn Christian gets involved with a fortuneteller mentor and two girls who share her mysterious talents, she finally belongs after years of being a misfit. When she learns her new friends may be tied to freak accidents in town, Dawn has an important choice to make – continue developing the talent that makes her special or challenge the only people who have ever accepted her. This novel is aimed at young adults, and at adults who enjoy paranormal YA such as the Twilight series, House of Night, and The Vampire Diaries series, Meg Cabot’s The Mediator series, or Lois Duncan books.

I love a good paranormal young adult story and when I saw they compared it to the Twilight series, House of Night, and The Vampire Diaries series, Meg Cabot’s The Mediator series, or Lois Duncan books, I thought it was hard to go wrong.

Fifth Avenue (Fifth Avenue #1)

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

Look beneath all the power and all the wealth that represents New York City’s Fifth Avenue, and you’ll find greed, blood, revenge. In the thriller Fifth Avenue, each intermingles within a revered society that is unprepared for what’s in store for it when one man finally strikes in an effort to destroy another man for murdering his wife thirty-one years ago.

Louis Ryan is that man. George Redman, his wife, two daughters and their close friends are his targets. Both men are self-made billionaires who came from nothing to stake their claim to Fifth Avenue. But when Louis Ryan hires an international assassin to literally rip the Redman family apart, a series of events that can’t be stopped catapults them all through a fast-paced, hard-edged thriller in which nobody is safe. Secrets are revealed. The Mafia get involved. And George’s two daughters, Celina and Leana Redman, come to the forefront. More than anyone, it’s they who are caught in the throes of their father’s past as Louis Ryan’s blind desire to kill them all takes surprising turns in his all-out effort to see them dead.

Fifth Avenue by Christopher Smith is one of those books that tugs at my conspiracy theory bug. I mean, Fifth Avenue, all that money and power. I downloaded it on 6.5.12 and it averages a 3.6 on Goodreads.

GOODREADS BLURB

Gerald Hammond is the exception to the rule; an honorable spy, whose lofty principles have brought him nothing but loneliness and isolation.
With the war in Europe at an end, Hammond returns to Washington only to find his unit disbanded and his wife moved out of the marital home.
Ostracized by the Washington elite, publicly humiliated by an unfaithful wife, and scorned by former friends and colleagues, he is forced to take a mundane job with an insurance company. . . But then comes the call.
The State Department wants him to rescue a young woman, trapped in Soviet East Germany. Should he succeed a plum job at The State Department awaits.
Desperate for deliverance from his humdrum existence, Hammond accepts the assignment.
He heads into enemy territory, unaware of the sinister force that sponsored his mission or of the unseen dangers that lie in wait. He only knows that he must somehow save the girl to save himself, but as his enemies close in, and ever-more disturbing revelations come to light, Gerald Hammond begins to wonder which poses the greatest threat. . . The enemy he runs from, the friend he runs to, or the girl he was sent to save?

Shark & The Wolf: Predators and Prey

GOODREADS BLURB

“Hybrid Animals and Humans Collide…Could very well be a sequel to The Island of Doctor Moreau.”

Pack your bags for the wild side and hang on tight. Escape into an exotic untamed world in this sci-fi adventure that has been called a cross between Gladiator, Planet of the Apes and The Hunger Games.

In Las Vegas, Shaw, billionaire casino magnate and self proclaimed world’s greatest showman, nears completion on the massive Serengeti Resort & Casino. Its amphitheater is being transformed into an authentic slice of African savanna for the show Predators and Prey which will savagely pit animal against animal in the bloodiest gladiatorial spectacle ever created for human entertainment. The only thing missing is the main attraction – which Shaw soon finds in Shark, the world’s only Great White Half Man Half Shark Hybrid to be exact.

Shaw envisions the show’s tagline as “Come One – Come All To See – The Only Great White Shark In Captivity” but soon learns that capturing the world’s top predator and delivering him to Vegas is easier said than done. This daunting task will require the cruel tactics of the evil animal slave trading hyena, Old Jack. The heartbreaking plans they devise and innocent pawns they use to try to coerce Sharks allegiance will force all to rely on primitive instincts to survive.

Oh man, I wish this one would have caught my eye for Shark Week. LOL Anywhooo, just read the title and blurb and you’ll know why I had to have this. I added it to my TBR on 5.13.12. It has an average of 3.34 on Goodreads.
