Released (The Shapeshifters' Library, #1)

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

Love dogs? Love books? Love libraries? Hate Book-burning werewolves?

Once long ago the Shipsfeather Academy was a training ground for an ancient race of dog-shifters whose mission was to protect the world’s knowledge. A powerful curse sealed these librarians in the basement of their building and gave the control of the town to a pack of book-burning werewolves.

Librarian Liberty Cutter watches in horror as the town’s public library goes up in flames and plans to re-establish the library in the abandoned Shipsfeather Academy building. Chronus, the Old English Sheepdog headmaster of the academy and leader of the dog-shifters, knows he must make some changes to continue to keep his pack safe. But even if he could persuade Liberty to believe in a talking sheepdog, how far can she be trusted? And will she ever be able to care for him as a man. He has to try, because Liberty Cutter and her staff of zany librarians may hold the key to the dog-shifters’ freedom…and the future of the town.

I added Released (The Shapeshifters’ Library #1) by Amber Polo to my TBR on 2.7.13. That cover alone would have grabbed first, but after reading the blurb I would have been happy I grabbed it. Now, just gotta find time to read it. So many books get buried in my Kindle…and those stacks over there and back there…I haven’t forgotten you. 🙂 What do you think of that fantastic cover??????

Talisman of El (T.O.E. Trilogy #1)

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

WHAT IF YOUR WHOLE LIFE WAS A LIE?

One Planet.

Two Worlds.

Population: Human … 7 billion.
Others … unknown.

When 14-year-old Charlie Blake wakes up sweating and gasping for air in the middle of the night, he knows it is happening again. This time he witnesses a brutal murder. He’s afraid to tell anyone. No one would believe him … because it was a dream. Just like the one he had four years ago – the day before his dad died.

Charlie doesn’t know why this is happening. He would give anything to have an ordinary life. The problem: he doesn’t belong in the world he knows as home.

He belongs with the others.

I added Talisman of El by Alecia Stone to my TBR on 2.5.13. It does have an interesting cover. I didn’t see it for sale anywhere and I can’t find out anything about the author or if other books have been written. Does anyone know where the elusive Alecia Stone is? I hope all is well. That being said, I don’t know if I will ever read this or not, but if it never comes up for sale again, I want it on my virtual shelf.

PS: After further exploration, I found the author and the entire trilogy, under the name Al Stone. This is why I find research an issue…I got lost for an hour. LOL

The Night My Husband Killed Me

Amazon / Goodreads

AMAZON SYNOPSIS

A movie heart-throb
A sports superstar
An aristocrat
A brilliant surgeon

Killers all.

These are the stories of those they killed.

Their wives.

‘The Night My Husband Killed Me’, is the story of four women who were murdered by their husbands.

All of the women were beautiful, and were either famous at the time of their deaths, or became famous for being the victims of the charismatic, disturbed, men who ended their lives.

Being dead doesn’t end a woman’s feelings, or her anger. There is Natalie, the international and revered movie star who died the death she had most feared all of her life. There is the beautiful, life-loving Nicole, who might just have gone back to the stunning athlete she loved, if only he hadn’t killed her first. Then there is Sunny, heiress to one of America’s greatest fortunes, sent into an irreversible coma for paying too much for all the wrong things. And finally, there is Colette, the high school sweetheart who married the golden boy and endured a marriage of increasing lies and disappointment, culminating in her death and that of her little girls shortly after Valentine’s Day.

These four amazing women’s lives were cut short, but each has a story to tell … and now they have.

Goodreads Ratings: 3.75  ·  155 ratings  ·  21 reviews

I added The Night My Husband Killed Me by Kathlen Hewtson on 2.4.13. This is nonfiction…the story of four women who lost their lives to the one who was supposed to love them. I love delving into the minds of twisted people, whether factual or fictional. How about you? Do you like getting down and dirty with the bad guys?

Goodreads Ratings: 3.65  ·  2,810 ratings  ·  249 reviews

I added Entangled by Barbara Ellen Brink to my TBR on 2.2.13. The reason…the cover, of course. I am a sucker for a fantastic cover and that is a great one! Ya can’t run from your past and when it arises in a novel, it makes for some intriguing reading.

Jack Templar, Monster Hunter (The Templar Chronicles, #1)

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

Orphan Jack Templar has no memory of his parents and only the smallest details from his Aunt Sophie about how they died. The day before Jack’s fourteenth birthday, things start to change for him. At first it’s great: A sudden new strength helps him defend his nose-picking friend “T-Rex” from the school bully, and even his crush, Cindy Adams, takes notice. But then a mysterious girl named Eva arrives and tells him two facts that will change his life forever. First, that he’s the descendent of a long line of monster hunters and he’s destined to be in the family business. Second, that there’s a truce between man and monster that children are off-limits…until their fourteenth birthday! Jack has only one day before hundreds of monsters will descend on his little town of Sunnyvale and try to kill him.

As if that weren’t enough, things get even more complicated when Jack discovers that the Lord of the Creach (as the monsters are collectively known) holds a personal grudge against him and will do anything to see that Jack has a slow and painful death. To stay alive and save his friends, Jack will have to battle werewolves, vampires, harpies, trolls, zombies and more. But perhaps the most dangerous thing he must face is the truth about his past. Why do the other hunters call him the last Templar? Why do they whisper that he may be the “One?” Why do the monsters want him dead so badly? Even as these questions plague him, he quickly discovers survival is his new full-time job and that in the world of monster hunters, nothing is really what it seems.

Goodreads Ratings: 3.74  · 613 ratings  ·  156 reviews

I added Jack Templar Monster Hunter, Book One, by Jeff Gunhus to my TBR on 1.29.13. I have read some of his work and enjoyed it, so why not? I’m sure I got it free, probably during a tour as he was promoting future books in the series and offered this one for free. I do love reading about monsters of all kinds. How about you? Do you have a favorite monster?

His mother’s crippling car accident has devastated his family and left Leo to deal with his father’s abuse, battered and alone.

Leo and Audrey must band together to rise above the adversity they encounter and find their true selves in the process. When everything’s on the line… streamline.

I added Streamline by Jennifer Lane to my TBR on 1.28.13. I won the book. I like the pretty cover and I do love mystery, so this seemed like a good fit. AND, we are traveling from Pensacola to Annapolis, and that hits very close to home. I have read one of her books, On Best Behavior and enjoyed it, so I feel like I will enjoy this one too.

Gone

GOODREADS BLURB

Greg is having a bad morning. He overslept and is late for work. All he really wants is a good strong cup of joe.
He’s not going to get it.
Things might be going from bad to worse before the day is over…

Take a trip into the Twilight Zone with Gone, also available in the Toes Up collection, by Adam Light.

Goodreads Ratings: 3.35  · 195 ratings  ·  47 reviews

I added Gone by Adam Light to my TBR on 1.24.13. I have read numerous books and short stories by him and his brother, Evans Light. Somehow this short story must have gotten buried. I think you can only get it on audio and in the Toes Up collection. He writes some great horror, and I plan on reading any of his books I have missed, including this one, soon.

I thought I would share Corpus Corruptum by Adam & Evans Light in the same post, seeing I got them on the same day. This is a short read too, and, like Gone, is only available in audiobook format.

The Corpus Corruptum

Audiobook / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

These stories are our mutant children, fever dreamed hallucinations that don’t necessarily fit into any particular genre – no matter how weird they are, we love them anyway.
THE CORPUS CORRUPTUM collection peeks into what happens when the body goes bad, the most universal of all human fears. We hope you enjoy it.

Stories include:

WAY OUT OF HERE, by Adam Light
GERTRUDE, by Evans Light
VENGEANCE BY THE FOOT, by Adam Light
NOSE HEARS, by Evans Light
THE PACKAGE, by Evans Light

The lesser of two evils…

I added Shadow Sight by E J Stevens to my TBR on 1.24.13. I have read some of her work and I may have even visited Harborsmouth before. I can’t quite remember, but it sure sounds familiar. I feel it will be a good time and that’s all I really ask for. I do find it easy to get lost in books and fantasies allow me to let my mind run free.

Kiss of Fire (Imdalind, #1)

Amazon / Audiobook / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

Joclyn Despain has been marred by a brand on her skin. She doesn’t know why the mark appeared on her neck, but she doesn’t want anyone to see it, including her best friend Ryland, who knows everything else about her. The scar is the reason she hides herself behind baggy clothes, and won’t let the idea of kissing Ryland enter her mind, no matter how much she wants to.
The scar is the reason she is being hunted.

If only she knew that she was.

If only she had known that the cursed stone her estranged father sent for her 16th birthday would trigger a change in her. Now, she is being stalked by a tall blonde man, and is miraculously throwing her high school bully ten feet in the air.

Joclyn attempts to find some answers and the courage to follow her heart. When Ryland finds her scar; only he knows what it means, and who will kill her because of it.

I added Kiss of Fire by Rebecca Ethington to my TBR on 1.23.13, but didn’t get the freebie from Amazon until 6.11.18. A lot of books I added because of giveaways. It’s funny, weird, that all too often they pop up free at some time and that is when I actually get the book. With the rating stats I feel this is going to be a good one for me. I love the paranormal/supernatural genre. The top cover doesn’t do much for me, which was published as a paperback in 2012. The one below was published as a Kindle copy in 2013 and is the one shown on Amazon, a definite improvement.
