Well, it looks like in my click happy days I grabbed a lot of YA. But, what are Shadow Jumpers? I added this to my TBR on 10.25.12, but didn’t pick it up from Amazon until 12.27.12. I am looking forward to finding out what Shadow Jumpers are in this mutiracial culture with a interracial romance. Sounds different from a lot of my reads and I am always on the lookout for that. How about it? Does it appeal to you?

GOODREADS BLURB

I won Solid by Shelley Workings and added it to my TBR on 10. Everything about the book appeals to me. It is a YA novel, which I do read a lot of when they are also the paranormal and supernatural type. Apocalypti/dystopian/science fiction/fantasy makes me want to know about these kids and their powers. I love a simple cover that says a lot and this one stands out. I wonder how much it pertains to the story and I shall find out. How about you? Do you every get a bit peeved when the cover in no one matches the story inside?

Maui Widow Waltz

Amazon / Audiobook / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

Even ‘death do us part’ couldn’t halt her march down the aisle…
Cash-strapped Maui wedding planner Pali Moon can’t believe her luck when a prospective bride flashing a five-carat dazzler pops into her shop, “Let’s Get Maui’d,” to request a glitzy beachside wedding. But then Pali learns the lavish wedding must take place on Valentine’s Day—only nine days away. Oh, and one other little hitch—the groom’s been missing at sea for more than a week. But no worries, the bride assures Pali, with or without the groom the wedding will take place. She’s struck a deal with the groom’s best friend to be his proxy, if necessary. Two days before the nuptials, a male corpse floats ashore on a South Maui beach. Looks like the groom’s shown up just in time. But what’s it gonna be—a wedding…or a funeral?

Why did I eagerly pick up this one? It has everything I love in a cozy mystery. A tropical island locale is a location that I love. I even went there once. I had told Mr Wonderful early in our relationship that if I ever got married again (it was the second for both of us), I had to go to Hawaii. Fortunately for us, a friend of his had a paid trip to Hawaii on Waikiki Beach and him and his wife could not go. She was pregnant and the doctor said no. Our lucky day. Now that we have digital cameras, I would love to go back. It used to be photos on a budget, now we can all go click crazy. Added to my TBR on 10.19.12 and got it from Amazon on 10.20.13.

The Ghost and the Graveyard (Knight Games, #1)

Amazon / Audiobook / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

**The Ghost and The Graveyard is a funny, exciting, and sexy read intended for adults. Due to sexual content, language, and violence this book is recommended for ages 18+**

Grateful Knight isn’t looking for love when she moves into a rent-free house on the edge of a graveyard. At twenty-two, all she wants is to recover financially so she can move back to the city where she belongs.

But sparks fly when the gorgeous cemetery caretaker, Rick, introduces himself and mentions his suspicion that her new house might be haunted. Her attraction to him seems supernatural, and despite her resolve to not get involved, she literally can’t keep her hands off him.

When things in Grateful’s house start moving on their own, another man enters her life, Logan, a sexy ghost with a dark secret. He says Rick isn’t what he seems, and indulging her passion for him could cost her soul.

One thing’s for sure, magical forces are at work in the tiny town of Red Grove, and they’re converging on Grateful. Life will never be the same once she’s forced to choose between the ghost and the graveyard.

Why did I grab this one? Just look at the cover, then read the blurb and I think that will answer your question. I added this to my TBR on 10.18.12 and grabbed it from Amazon on 9.6.13. I love when I have added a book and find it free later.

I added The Secrets of the Vanmars by Elisabeth Wheatley to my TBR on 10.16.23 and I received it from the author. I have been reading Elisabeth Wheatley’s stories for some time now and I don’t know how I missed this one. I’ll be remedying that as soon as I get caught up on my review books. The Secrets of the Vanmars is the second book in the Argetallam Saga. It’s a teen/young adult novel of fairy tales and folklore and sword and sorcery. I love getting lost in a fantasy world and Elisabeth Wheatley makes it so much fun.

Zemsta

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

What Drives Good People to Do Something Bad? As terrible revelations come to light, four people join together to commit an unspeakable act…

When a member of the privileged upper class frames a Polish immigrant for a socialite’s murder in 1920s Akron, the heart-pounding events that follow lead to a stunning and unexpected conclusion. This gripping tale of bigotry and class distinctions includes political corruption, greed, injustice, murder, and betrayal. While Albo Jablonski endures the atrocious conditions of the state penitentiary, his son Nickels, daughter Antonia, and their friends Kurt and Charlie are tormented by the knowledge that he is innocent. Zemsta is a powerful, character-driven story of three boyhood friends during the tumultuous days of Prohibition that explores the meaning of friendship, family, love, and loyalty.

“Brown’s debut novel recounts how a young woman’s murder affects the lives of childhood friends. But it is the portrayal of real-world history–the height of Prohibition, the early days of cinema–that makes the book such a gem. A nostalgic, authentic novel that charms with its vintage hue.” –Kirkus Reviews

From the Author: Zemsta makes an excellent choice for book clubs. If you are interested in having the author join your book club discussion by Skype, just send a note by e-mail (located in the back of the book) to set it up.

I added Zemsta by Victoria Brown to my Goodreads TBR on 10.12.12, but grabbed it from Amazon on 7.12.12. I always love a good mystery and even though I don’t read a lot of historical fiction, every once in a while it fits the bill. What is your favorite kind of mystery? Historical fiction? Suspense and fiction? Police Procedurals? Cozy Mysteries? Something light or something in the dark and disturbing?

GOODREADS BLURB

When Peter Fisher sets out for school one morning, he has no idea that trouble is stirring in his hometown. With the unexpected arrival of his new Candonite friends from Maple Town, Peter and Lina have extra help saving their beloved town and loved ones from the clutches of the one villain they had hoped they would never see again. Humorous and thought provoking, this unforgettably entertaining story teaches a valuable lesson about standing up and facing one’s fears.

This is not the first book Crystal Marcos’ that I have gotten my hands on and I do enjoy her writing. She writes more than children’s books. I have also read Novus, her science fiction novel and loved it. Guess that shows and author doesn’t need to be locked into one genre. Have you ever been disappointed when an author switched or added other genres to their repertoire?

Do I even need to say why I grabbed this one? I mean check out that cover. Screams vampire to me…and then to think we have dragons too. OMG. I bumped this forgotten novel to the top of my kindle list. I plan on getting to it ASAP and I’ll let you know what I think. I added this to my Goodreads TBR on 10.11.12 but downloaded it on 9.8.12. What do you think of vampires. Do you like the Twilight vampires? I do, but that is not everyone’s taste. Do you like the evil, slay everyone, dripping fangs and long clawed ones? I do too. I’ll take vampires in any shape or form, especially when there are dragons involved too.
