The Cover. Revenge. A Flood. Think that about says it all as to why I added River Rising by Kevin Kearney to my TBR on 10.11.12. I may have won the book. Do weather elements add that little bit extra that can change your mind about whether you would grab the book or not?

Don’t know why I grabbed this, but it could be just because it was free. Back in 2012 I had just started blogging and the thought of a free book made me go click crazy…I never got over it. LOL

The Glimpse

Amazon / Goodreads

A Personal Message From Grant Carroll

In 2007, God gave Grant Carroll a critical message for the American church through a chilling dream his wife had. Not long after, he began to notice uncanny similarities between the dream and real world events happening to Christians in the news as if the dream was giving predictions of the future. Grant felt led to turn the dream into a piece of Christian fiction that would grab people’s attention, so they would understand the dire warning of coming persecution, before it’s too late. That story is called The Glimpse, and its is for youth, young adults, parents, church leaders and the Christian Church at large. Its message is for you.

GOODREADS BLURB

Austin Kelly is about to learn a lesson: Be careful when you pray for God to change you, because He answers prayer. Even though he’s a Sunday School teacher, Austin’s faith in Jesus Christ is no match for his fear of rejection from others. Lizzie Kelly has more courage than her husband, but struggles to find fulfillment and meaning in her job at their church. The couple’s friends aren’t faring much better. Computer tech Daniel Cabrera fights disappointment with the direction his career has taken, and even more frustration with the church youth he teaches. His wife, Jackie, strives to maintain a sense of control over her life, but it’s quickly faltering. Faced with churches dying across New York City, the four Christian teachers have a cry in their hearts for their lives to make a difference. God answers their cry by throwing them into a world that looks like a nightmare version of the United States. Everything is so similar, yet totally different, starting with the fact that Christians are nearly extinct after decades of persecution. They soon discover it is a fascist nation, where anyone who professes faith in Christ risks their life. The four travelers encounter a group of teenagers that turn out to be one of the last surviving churches, led by their high school teacher, Eric Peterson. With no visible way to get home, Austin, Lizzie and their friends join the underground church in their fight to spread the Gospel while avoiding the National Police. Their task is made even more difficult when revival breaks out in the local high school and draws unwanted attention, but they know they can’t stop until their work is complete and the Lord makes a way for them to go home…if there is one..

I added The Glimpse by Grant Carroll to my reading list on 10.10.12 but picked it up on 9.23.12. Like I said earlier, I probably picked it up as a click happy freebie. Will I read it? Religious books are not my normal fare, unless it has a paranormal or horror element, but ya never know what tomorrow brings. It may fit my mood sometime. I have a hard time deleting a book when I know I own it. It seems sacrilegious, even when I know I can’t read them all. 🙂 How do you feel?

Midnight Blue Over Mexico is D S Land’s first and only novel, so I am really curious now. Mexico…a discovery…global warming…why haven’t I read this? I added this to my reading shelf on 10.9.12, but actually got it through Amazon on 8.8.12. I love books that deal with real life issues that I am concerned about and global warming is a big one. I love the water, whether it’s pools, oceans, rivers, creeks, ponds, or the birdbath in my backyard, so anything that affects that concerns me. I’m glad I am doing this meme, because I am finding books that I really want to read and forgot about.

GOODREADS BLURB

A tale of stolen souls, mirror worlds, quantum physics and eternal love.

There’s a serial killer on the loose and Angel Copperwheat knows his name, but the murderer is long dead and using Angel to power his quest to become a God. The police think Angel’s the murderer and maybe he is?

Angel lives on the bubble-thin surface of what we call reality, surrounded by ghosts and the fractured moments of potential futures, living in more than one world. Angel has spent his life studying quantum physics, the magic of shamans, religions and myths and the threads that bind them, seeking the science of death and the afterlife, believing that nothing is inexplicable, merely unexplained, and always in hope of finding the answer to his biggest question, why me? Since he was a child, newly returned from the dead, Angel used his abilities selfishly, meddling with time and space in search of elusive happiness and the love he feels he doesn’t deserve.

The Reverend Forster, Vicar of St Swithun’s, knows who Angel is and what he is. Forster has tapped the cracks Angel opened in reality and used it to steal souls from the living, taking their power to fuel his quest to become a God. The empty bodies have been possessed by wandering ghosts and now Angel’s dull English home-town is a mess of blood, rape and murder. The dispossessed souls have charged Angel with putting the universe to rights. Can Angel close the rift, restore lost souls to life, remain alive and keep his darkest secret, while holding on to the hard-won love of his friends in the now, the past and future?

That’s why I added Entanglement by Maya Panika to my reading list on 10.6.12..and it was free. Now, it is available for $2.99 and it is the only book I see that she has ever written, which was published on 6.19.12. Is she a one hit wonder? On hiatus? Living life? Hmmm…could that be a story, What Even Happened To Maya Panika? Any thoughts?

Chuck Barrett is the kind of author that is as interesting as his novels and he a Florida native, so that’s a big plus. I have read one of his books and now that these are on my radar…again…maybe I can get to them.

The Savannah Project

Amazon / Audiobook / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

“An intense, heart-pounding St. Patrick’s Day thriller!”

The truth can be a dangerous thing.

Terrorism, duty, and personal safety collide when Jake Pendleton, an investigator for the NTSB, is called to investigate an aircraft accident in Savannah, Georgia during the St. Patrick’s Day celebration. The accident, which at first appears to be quite run-of-the-mill, turns out to be anything but. Since Jake is not willing to pretend there are no suspicious circumstances and more than the usual share of rather unlikely “coincidences,” he sets off a veritable avalanche of secrets, violence and treachery. Aided by an unlikely partner, Gregg Kaplan, the air traffic controller who was the last person in contact with the airplane that crashed, Jake sets out to untangle the webs of deceit and to find a vicious killer.

Nothing is as it seems, nobody is who you thought them to be.
Nothing is sacred.
Nobody is safe.

I am so excited to have the first two books in the Jake Pendleton series by Chuck Barrett. I added this to Goodreads on 10.6.12 but I didn’t pick it up from Amazon until 6.23.14. I’m so glad I haven’t read book one yet, The Toymaker, see below. Now I can read them in order and I feel they are going to be some good ones. What can of thrillers float your boat?

The Toymaker

Amazon / Audiobook / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

Former NTSB Investigator Jake Pendleton faces a dilemma as the line blurs between right and wrong. After his judgment comes into question, Jake is entrusted to his new mentor, an eccentric old man who sees beyond Jake’s flaws. A man who makes ‘toys for spies.’ A man known as The Toymaker. Jake’s first assignment reunites him with Gregg Kaplan in a daredevil mission to rescue a fellow agent held captive in Yemen. He risks his life to stop the first attack of an al Qaeda mastermind. But now, with no one to trust but himself, can Jake stop the terrorist from destroying what is most precious to the free world? Unfortunately, more trouble comes his way as a killer from his past threatens something more important to Jake than his own life, leaving him to make the hardest decision any man ever has to make- Who to sacrifice. In the same suspenseful style as his award winning thriller, The Savannah Project, Chuck Barrett’s The Toymaker is guaranteed to engulf the reader in another spine-tingling tale of international intrigue.

Goodreads ratings: 3.91  · 551 ratings  ·  60 reviews

No doubt in my mind that I added The Toymaker to my reading list because of the cover! I added it on 10.6.12, but for some reason I actually got it from Amazon on 6.20.12. Who knows why it’s different. I didn’t keep very good records for years and just recently tried to add all books owned, kindle and physical, through blogging. I have a lot more on the shelves before I even joined Goodreads. Any who…back to business.

GOODREADS BLURB

Monsters do not exist. There is nothing hiding in your closet waiting for the lights to dim and your eyes to close. Santa Claus isn’t real, and neither is the Tooth Fairy.

From the lips of parents to the ears of their maturing children, these confessions have been passed down from generation to generation. Marcus believed in the world’s magic, and was crushed after learning it was a lie. With no good deeds rewarded, or bad behavior punished, he wandered through life destined for mediocrity.

That was before he awoke in a world surrounded by mythical beings, and thrust into a conflict between humans and the nightmares they created.

With his home world on the brink of destruction, and the population of legends losing their grip on sanity, Marcus has little time to bring peace between the opposing factions. Aided by an unlikely band of “fictitious” creatures, he reluctantly sets out to unravel the mysteries of Godsworld.
