Tackling The TBR – 12.18 – 12.31.21 #tacklingthetbr

I got the idea and the motivation to start doing Tackling The TBR from All The Book Blog Names Are Taken. It has helped me to keep track of my reading shelf as far as current events and I also started doing a post for Books From The Backlog, from Carole’s Random Life in Books, to tidy up my shelves. I feel better about my out of control TBR and have even knocked off a couple of those old ones that had been hanging around for years.

COME ON….JOIN IN

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I started doing this post on April 4, 2021. I began with 2347 books on my Goodreads TBR and managed whittle it down to 2171 and knock off 176 books. That does seem kinda low, because I have read 463 books this year, but I guess when you think of ones I added and took in for review along the way, it probably works out pretty damn close. By doing Tackling The TBR and Covid running rampant, I became a reading fiend. Needless to say, I spent way too many days sitting on my ass and I plan on changing that….after the MIchigan football win against Georgie, I am sure I will be motivated. 🙂

The Old Vampire (Short Story)

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

Hailey spent her life dreaming of a dark prince falling in love with her. He never showed up, until now.
A short tale set on the spookiest day of the year, Halloween.
Be careful what you wish for!

(A Short Story – approx 4,700 words)

Goodreads Ratings: 4.50  ·  Rating details ·  8 ratings  ·  7 reviews

I added The Old Vampire by Emma Meade to my TBR on 2.12.13. I have read some of her other work and loved it, so this was a no brainer. I am wondering why I have not read The Old Vampire because it is a short story and…VAMPIRES. Love ’em. Soooo…once I catch up on reviews that I need to write I will conquer this one. It will need to wait so I can write a review while the book is still fresh in my mind. Do you ever let reviews needing to be written stack up? Knowing it would be easier to write it while it’s fresh, but wanting to dive right into the next book?

Ethan Justice: Origins (Ethan Justice, #1)

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

In the morning, he’s struggling to remember. By the evening, he’s struggling to survive. John Smith’s risk avoidance policy just expired!

Waking up beside the gorgeous Savannah Jones, John is shocked to learn she was for hire, and he can’t pay the price – a thousand pounds or broken legs. In desperation, he turns to best friend, Mark, for the money. Only one problem – Mark has a dagger in his back.

John and Savannah are plunged into a dangerous world where wits and adrenaline are their only weapons and trust in each other their only certainty. As the body count mounts, they discover Mark wasn’t the person John thought, and his terrifying invention may well end up killing thousands, John and Savannah included.

A race to recover the missing invention pits the unlikely pairing against ex-SAS psychopath, Gregory Fisher, a man who will stop at nothing and kill anyone in his way to wreak revenge against the Government who stole his livelihood.

When Smith and Jones team up, the result is explosive.

This is a fast-paced, action-packed, character-driven thriller, guaranteed to make you laugh out loud, cringe, cry and cheer.

This book contains a few violent scenes, a dash of sex and the odd bit of bad language, so please don’t buy it if you are easily offended.

Goodreads Ratings: 3.87  ·  Rating details ·  926 ratings  ·  153 reviews

I added Ethan Justice Origins (Ethan Justice #1) by Simon Jenner to my TBR on 2.20.13. I has all the elements I look for when wanting a suspense/thriller. Smith and Jones? Lovin’ that. Explosive. Oh Yeah! Fast paced, action-packed, character-driven, guaranteed to make you laugh out loud, cringe, cry and cheer…WHAT MORE COULD I POSSIBLE WANT? LOL

Blue Coyote Motel (Coyote #1)

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

Would you take an anti-aging hormone? What if you could keep your youth? If someone you knew was terrified of aging, and you’d invented the hormone, would you give it to them? Even if it meant discovery would cause you to lose your chance of winning the Nobel Prize?
Blue Coyote Motel is a suspense love story which begins in the barrios of Southern California and spans the globe in such diverse locations as Provence, South America, and the Himalayas. The beautiful Latina, Maria, and her husband, Jeffrey, a scientist fired from a prestigious laboratory, struggle to build a new life in a remote Southern California desert areas as owners of the motel.
Along with the anti-aging hormone, Jeffrey invents a “feel-good” wonder drug to help Maria with her depression. As Jeffrey becomes insane he begins to experiment with the wonder drug. Six wayward travelers, including an alcoholic priest, a couple who own gold mines in Brazil, a depressed widow, a struggling salesman, and a Native American pediatrician find themselves spending the night at the small motel. The next morning they wake up feeling better than ever. Has Jeffrey’s miracle drug delivered? Or is the nightmare of addiction only beginning?
Blue Coyote Motel presents an engaging look at the human frailties present in all of us.

Goodreads Ratings: 3.70  ·  Rating details ·  731 ratings  ·  174 reviews

I added Blue Coyote by Dianne Harman to my TBR on 2.10.13. Why? #1 – the cover. #2 – the title. #3 – the blurb. It sounds like a wild ride and I was curious. Makes me think of that saying: If something seems to good to be true, it usually is. Everything has a price and I wonder what these characters will have to pay.

Sunday Post

Hi Everyone. Well, we went to my mother in law’s for Thanksgiving. There was seven of us and, for the most part, I felt okay about it and had a good time, but in the back of my mind was Covid. Of course, the food was wonderful and the football, hmmm, the Detroit Lions…I love ’em, but I wish they would stand up and roar.

Right now we are watching Alabama vs Georgia. OKlahoma State took a loss and that probably knocked them out of the playoffs. Michigan is #2, after putting a beat down on Ohio State. This is our year to…go…all…the…way…fingers crossed. We play a late game, which is unusual for us, but we have won all the night games we have played this year, so that is just fine.

I don’t know where this year has gone. Do you have any plans for the Christmas holidays? I’m not sure what we will be doing, but I would be happy to stay home.

Stay safe and wear a mask..

I missed posting last week, so this is two weeks worth. My totals stayed the same, as I added as many as I read. Soooo hard to say no. Gotta write some reviews and then I’ll get back to my Currently Reading shelf, which is review books.

The Black Oak series by Monique Edenwood is heavy on the erotica, but the story drew me in so much that I actually bought 3 of the 4 books (at 3.99 and preordered the 5th book – which I have never done before). I may not have done so if I had paid attention and noted that, but I love dark and twisted and Monique delivered. Hurry up and bring on Ashes of Black Oak, Monique. I have got to know what happens!

Released (The Shapeshifters' Library, #1)

Amazon / Goodreads

GOODREADS BLURB

Love dogs? Love books? Love libraries? Hate Book-burning werewolves?

Once long ago the Shipsfeather Academy was a training ground for an ancient race of dog-shifters whose mission was to protect the world’s knowledge. A powerful curse sealed these librarians in the basement of their building and gave the control of the town to a pack of book-burning werewolves.

Librarian Liberty Cutter watches in horror as the town’s public library goes up in flames and plans to re-establish the library in the abandoned Shipsfeather Academy building. Chronus, the Old English Sheepdog headmaster of the academy and leader of the dog-shifters, knows he must make some changes to continue to keep his pack safe. But even if he could persuade Liberty to believe in a talking sheepdog, how far can she be trusted? And will she ever be able to care for him as a man. He has to try, because Liberty Cutter and her staff of zany librarians may hold the key to the dog-shifters’ freedom…and the future of the town.

I added Released (The Shapeshifters’ Library #1) by Amber Polo to my TBR on 2.7.13. That cover alone would have grabbed first, but after reading the blurb I would have been happy I grabbed it. Now, just gotta find time to read it. So many books get buried in my Kindle…and those stacks over there and back there…I haven’t forgotten you. 🙂 What do you think of that fantastic cover??????
