Movie Marathon – Jesse Stone, Tom Selleck & Robert B Parker

Here I am, doing my normal when Mr Wonderful has to work on a Saturday, blogging, reading and watching TV. What’s this? OMG, its a Jesse Stone Movie Marathon and I am all in.

Magnumtomselleck.jpgI am a huge Tom Selleck fan from the Magnum PI days and I just watched Three Men and a Baby for the umpteenth time. He has those boyish good looks that I find hard to resist.

I am also a huge Jesse Stone and Robert B Parker fan. I have read many of his books and I must thank the library for that. I used to go in and clear the shelf of his books, loving bringing them home, stacking them, putting them in order of publication and..Then…the good part. I would begin reading. One after the other. I devoured them, reading for hours on end.

Robert B. Parker at Manchester Library.jpgIt is sad that Robert B Parker is no longer with us, but if Tom Selleck has his way, he will live on.

Notice any similarities?

Jesse Stone Innocents Lost DVD.jpgNOW…a Jesse Stone marathon  and I am loving every minute of it, watching them one right after another.

His drinking and his ex wife haunt him. I like having a beer or a glass of wine, while I am sitting alone, hubby working late, or working one of his freelance gigs. It seems so…special somehow. Not sure if that’s the right word, but I enjoy it.

Mr Wonderful just got home from a gig and he’s sleeping. Jesse is having the first of his two Scotches and I am having a glass of wine and loving every minute of it.

Women are drawn to him. He is a fair man and walks a fine line when it comes to the law. He breaks it when there is no other way, but the bad guys deserve everything they get. He works with some not so good citizens to get a better result and it seems to work out for him and them too. But there is still a line not to be crossed.

KathyBaker.jpgReggie makes me want to reach out and pet him, but I know, like Jesse, he does not want that. His dogs…well they seem to be as damaged as him. BUT Reggie will be there, a comforting and stoic partner.

I love Suitcase and Rose.

Rose, Kathy Baker. I love to watch her character grow and develop. She is such a good person.

Suitcase, Kohl Sudduth, what can I say about Suitcase. A kid in a man’s body, he looks up to Stone and strives to be more like him, but he has a huge sense of right and wrong, black and white. Will he find the gray that seems to me rules life?

I love them all! The trio make a great team.

They reside in a small coastal town, where everyone knows your business, yet he has no time for boredom. Whether it’s helping a lost teenager get back on track, showing a woman mercy because of a past transgression…

Life has unintended consequences and sometimes justice is found in the oddest ways.

I love when I sit down, turn on the TV and come across such a great, unexpected surprise. I spent all day watching – one right after the other – and hated for it to end.

What a fantastic way to spend a cool, wintry day.

What about you? Do you have a special character you love to spend hours with?

Stormy weather with Stevie Ray Vaughn

These shots and video were taken by Mr Wonderful and me over the last several days.

Thursday – The clouds rolled in and I mean that literally. I have been watching the skies since Thursday, when the crackling boom of thunder surrounded the house and I opened the front door to investigate. Funny how the bad weather is out front and the sun shines on the pool and patio. *all photos not to be used without permission*

Friday – We had an itch to visit the beach and had to scratch it. We hadn’t been to Hooters for a while, so a wing call was in order. Hooters is on Pensacola Bay, with a view of the piers for boats and, of course, our signature white, sandy beach. It is a great place to people watch, especially as this storm rolls in. I can certainly see why we are the lightning capital and so many people are struck by lightning. Check out the video and you will see why for yourself.

Actually, I can’t remember if me or Mr Wonderful took this, but I am think three strikes and we may be out.

Hubby took this from a video. It looks like someone opened up a portal in the sky and said, “Hey you dumbasses, get off the beach.”

Saturday – Mr Wonderful was working the Pensacola Wahoos baseball game, but the starting time was delayed. As the cloud rolls in, the tarp rolls out.

This is just your typical Florida weather.

What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods?

MY REVIEW

One Particular Harbor by Chip bell is a murder mystery that takes place on an exotic tropical island. Trouble seems to be Jake Sullivan’s middle name and it will find him, even on a working vacation. I look forward to island hopping on another Jake Sullivan adventure.

I have seen the sunset on the cover, I have swam in the salty blue water and sat under a tropical palm tree on a beautiful beach in the Virgin Islands. I have even had a cocktail at Pussers Landing in Tortola, so the location lends an aura of familiarity to me as I read along.

Jake is a Chief Federal Prosecutor of the Miami Office of the Justice Department. Even the President of the United States calls on him to solve some of the most difficult cases. It is not surprising that he has made some enemies and that they will occasionally rise up and bite him in the ass.

It begins the first night he is there. He is being set up, framed, for the murder of a prominent businessman. He trusts his secretary, Eva, and best friend, Mike, and will need them to help him keep from being convicted of a murder he did not commit.

Is it personal? Is it political? Is it payback?

I knew what would happen from the beginning, but not how. It didn’t matter to me. I love mysteries and Chip Bell’s writing kept the story flowing at a steady clip, every once in a while making me want to shout out to Jake…take Mike, don’t go there…

I love the closeness and camaraderie between Jake, Eva and Mike, also some of the peripheral characters. It is nice to have friends that will go the distance and Mike goes above and beyond the bonds of friendship.

One Particular Harbor by Chip Bell is a perfect summer read, whether you are at the beach or hanging around the patio. It is a quick and easy read that will keep you entertained and wondering what Jake Sullivan’s next tropical adventure will be and where will occur. I’ll be there, will you?.

I received One Particular Harbor in return for an honest review.

SYNOPSIS

A working vacation in the Virgin Islands… what could be better? But when you are Jake Sullivan, things are never as they seem, and a mysterious nighttime meeting leads to a nightmare of a morning.

Arrested for the murder of a prominent businessman, Jake finds himself the object of a conspiracy to take away everything he has as one piece after another builds the case against him.

Jake’s best friend, Mike Lang, comes to his aid and his investigation reveals that Jake is to be transferred to an island prison from which there will be no return and arranges an escape with the help of some island characters found only in the southern latitudes.

Now fugitives, Jake and Mike follow clues from island to island pursued by corrupt police and politicians and an international oil cabal and its team of hit-men, as they race to find answers as to who is framing Jake and why.

This fifth novel by Chip Bell takes the reader on a whirlwind voyage through this island paradise, always heading toward that one particular harbor where Jake’s past and present come together to seal his fate.
