OnBestBehavior_CoverSYNOPSIS

  Planning a wedding is never easy—especially when the Russian Mafia wants you dead.
On Best Behavior—the third and final book in The Conduct Series—finds our favorite couple moving forward, despite the odds. Following a pardon by the Governor of Illinois, ex-cons Sophie Taylor and Grant Madsen are finally free to pursue their love and the life that lies ahead for them. Grant now fights the forces that have hurt his loved ones by working undercover for the FBI, and he has infiltrated the Russian Mafia in Chicago. Sophie dives into swimming with Grant’s nephew, Ben, and into her career as a psychology professor. Thankfully, now it’s Ben’s turn to heal through therapy sessions with Dr. Hunter Hayes.

With so many things going right for Grant and Sophie, it’s too bad the Russians aren’t their only threat. When Grant’s father, Enzo Barberi, discovers his own son thwarted his plan to break out of prison, his overdeveloped sense of vengeance flares to life. As Sophie scrambles to save her fiancé, it’s impossible to say who will kill Grant first—the Russians or his Italian family. Can love triumph over evil? Are hard work and a pledge to be on best behavior ever enough?

Once again, author Jennifer Lane brings a harrowing tale of romantic suspense with a psychological twist, and it’s sure to leave readers breathless.

Arc Review – Bad Things Do Happen to Good People – Goodbye Nothing by Beck Sherman

Goodbye Nothing by Beck Sherman has an awesome cover. Even in it’s simplicity, it holds tremendous menace, but doesn’t even begin to portray the darkness that is to come. If you like Stephen King and Dean Koontz, you are going to love Beck Sherman. So, folks, grab hold tight because this is going to be a very bumpy ride.

I  downloaded Goodbye Nothing by Beck Sherman and told myself to just check it, DO NOT READ anything. I have others I need to do first and I knew if I read even the first paragraph, I wouldn’t want to stop until it was over. I have read Revamped by Beck Sherman and her writing is so fantastic, I knew this would be just as good. Oh, heck, hope the authors waiting for my reviews will forgive me. The release is coming up and I feel I just have to read this now. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. ^_^

GoodbyeNothing BookCover_BeckSherman_(2)goodreads-badge-add-plusSYNOPSIS:

A New Adult Horror Thriller

Since the night of the accident, Cain Emmerick has felt different. Empty. What was important to him—family, friends, his job—doesn’t matter anymore. His new life revolves around that Nothing inside of him and the extraordinary highs he gets from committing random acts of violence.

Seventeen-year-old Joey Morgan is blind, but that doesn’t stop her from seeing. Something bad is about to happen. Something that could tear her world apart. For Joey, college life isn’t quite turning out like she planned, because before good grades, fitting in, and love, comes survival.

From the author of Revamp comes a delightfully gruesome roller-coaster ride of a book.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Review of Goodbye Nothing by Beck Sherman
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Things couldn’t get better for Cain, until……”Too bad. So sad.”

Uh oh. I see it coming. I think this is gonna be bad for someone.

Lacey, his five year old daughter told Cain, “Daddy you lied. The bad dream came  true.”

Life flashed before Cain’s eyes, then he felt Nothing.

OMG. No way. WTF? NO! NO! I never saw that coming and it is so far past horrible that I can’t take any more. Okay, that’s it Beck. I’m gonna go mow the lawn now while I process the unimaginable evil you just made me read and prepare myself for more.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Goodbye Nothing by Beck Sherman is a paranormal horror story that goes so far into the dark abyss of evil that I am sitting here with my jaw hanging open thinking….I can’t even think of what to say. I am stunned, speechless.
Beck Sherman’s writing is excellent and grabs me from the first page, never letting me go. I took a couple breaks in reading to absorb the story because I was so shocked and appalled at what was happening. It made be want to weep and rage, to strike out at the evil and demand that it be undone. I am always amazed at an author when they come up with something so shocking, dark and evil, that I can’t even come up with the words to describe it. I never would have went there and I don’t know how Beck Sherman got there either.
I laughed all the way through the first chapter. It starts out so happy, cute and normal – the neighbor in his short pink bathrobe and his hairy legs sticking out, going out to pick up his paper and Cain finding his car keys in the freezer. Have you ever done that? No fibbing now.
The suspense and anticipation has me sitting on the edge of my seat. I just know something bad is coming. I don’t know what. I don’t know when. But it will come, that I know.
There is graphic violence with gruesome, blood and guts horror, that left me breathless. The monster we fear can be the guy next door. That scares me more than the Vampire or Werewolf lurking in the novels I read.
Cain is not a morning person. I smiled, because neither am I, even though I am up before daylight most of the the time. I love to listen as the world comes alive around me. Just don’t talk to me or even look at me for an hour. I may bite. Then I read about blood sucking vampires and psycho murderers and serial killers. LOL I love it.
Romance. I knew there would be hiccups, but my heart broke, right along with Joey’s. That age old issue of communication rears its ugly head. When the characters, just like real people, do not communicate, things can get royally fucked up.
Beck Sherman gives a guy a Pink Panther tatoo. I love Pink Panther. She mentions Nascar, when Cain chose a 1967 black Dodge Charger for his car. I always love hearing about the cars characters drive. These added tidbits make her writing exceptional. Such details make a book go from great to awesome. I love it.
The dialogue is fantastic. I loved the bantering tone and humor. It made me go from laughing one minute, to shock and utter disgust the next.
It is these things that makes it easy to relate to the characters. They come alive because of their foibles.
Joey is going to college for photography, even though she is legally blind. She sees bright colors and shapes, plus her best friend, Ren, helps her whenever he can.  Will they be more than friends?
Joey carries her camera everywhere she goes, as if it is an appendage. I can relate. I do the same thing.
Beck Sherman spends some time telling of Joey taking photographs of a bench……There is a lot more to it, but you will have to find out for yourself. I love taking photographs of benches with
Grand Canyon, Mr Wonderful (c) Sherry Fundin
Grand Canyon, Mr Wonderful (c) Sherry Fundin
or without people.
Grand Canyon (c) Sherry Fundin
Cain was a super nice guy, a great husband and father – until he RAN into Billy.
Life sucked for Billy. People only messed with him once. And right now, he wanted to make someone pay.
Hospital receptionist – nurse Nazi. Some people, you give them a little power and it goes to their head.  I call them Nazi’s – like the mean nurse, the rude flight attendant………
Beck Sherman mentions the Book of Shadows and an athame. The only reason I know what she is talking about is because I love to watch the Charmed TV show. I never watched it when it was on, but now I watch the reruns in the early hours of the morn. Not a lot to choose from that I like to watch, but Charmed comes on and then Supernatural.
QUOTES
“…stamp of little feet…sounds like 1000 children….just one.” 5 years old.
“… pine cones for show and tell.” So darn cute.
Barbie head with grass in her hair. “Play nicer with Barbie, okay?”
“Suited Road Runners..Beep Beep”
“Joey enjoyed reading a good book slowly, hanging on every well written word, flipping them over in her mind, tasting each like it was a savory meal and she a starving castaway.” How beautiful is that? Me? I’m a fast reader, racing through the pages, even though I know I will hate it when the last page is read!
Here’s to the men we love. Here’s to the men who love us. If the men we love, don’t love us, fuck the men and here’s to us!”
Cheers and happy reading!
I gotta tell you about this, oh and this. You are not going to believe this and it stays with me a long time after the reading is done. Okay, I know I didn’t tell you anything, but YOU will want to read the story to find out for yourself.
Beck Sherman leaves me clamoring for more.
I received Goodbye Nothing from Beck Sherman in return for an honest and unbiased review. I would have reviewed it anyway, after having read her excellent first book Revamp. To see my 5 STAR Review and more about Revamp, keep scrolling down.
FOR THREE DAYS, IT WAS DARK.
News reporters scrambled. This was the biggest story to come along in weeks.
.
They called it a blackout.
.
The last one was in New York City in 2003, but this one was different, special, because the grids in six major cities across the country had been fried, kaput, see-you-next-Sunday. Everyone with some jurisdiction blamed each other, and when there was no one left to blame, terrorism rode in on its gallant steed.
.
It was the media’s fault. They were so busy stuffing fanatical Muslims with a penchant for Allah and decapitations down the American citizen’s throat, that they never saw it coming. I guess I shouldn’t be too hard on them.
They were partially right.
.
It was terror after all, but a whole new kind. And when the lights came back on, things had changed.
The dark had brought us visitors.
“[Revamp is] a giddy satire on all things American and yet, at the same time, a kind of homage to the traditional vampire book…the words flow delightfully in this story. In fact, I sucked up the words.” 4 out of 5 stars, Phil Semler, San Francisco Book Review
My Adventures – Murder In The Children’s Section – Alex Kava and Erica Spindler
Murder In The Children’s Section is an adventure into the minds of two fantastic MURDER novelists, Alex Kava and Erica Spindler.
I received a phone call from my hubby, which is not unusual, but this time he had some really great news. Alex Kava and Erica Spindler are here in Pensacola being interviewed at the WSRE PBS station at Pensacola State College. I jumped in the shower, grabbed a couple books from my shelf and ran right out to buy their latest releases. Thus, the bad hair day. LOL I love both authors, so there was no way I was going to miss this.
Erica Spindler, Alex Kava and Me by Sherry FundinErica Spindler, Alex Kava and Me by Sherry Fundin
Both authors were friendly and in no hurry. They were willing to answer all our questions and sign, not just their new releases, but the additional books we brought in for autographs. Of course, we all wanted photos with them. ^_^  They complimented each other very well.
Erica Spindler and Me by Sherry Fundin
Erica Spindler and Me by Sherry Fundin
Erica Spindler talked about her writing regimen. She gets up early and goes to her local coffee shop to write for a couple of hours. She finds it less distracting, even with all the activity going on around her. Could it be because of the bats that have moved into her home? She waits til the pressure is on and a deadline looms, then takes off, just her and her dog. She spends the time writing and walking. She prefers writing over research. Erica used to write romance, then felt a need to add suspense. Now she can’t imagine writing a book without a murder in it. She feels she has found what she was meant to do in life – writing suspense novels. She talked about how green Pensacola is compared to the New Orleans area, due to the loss of the trees since Hurricane Katrina. She wasn’t sure if she had written thirty or thirty one books and has one in the works.
 Alex Kava and Me by Sherry FundinAlex Kava and Me by Sherry Fundin
Alex Kava’s favorite part of writing is the research. She does marathon writing sessions with her dogs at her side. In Stranded, she made Creed like herself, surrounded by the dogs that they love. She divides her time between Nebraska and Pensacola. She loves to write about places and settings she is familiar with. Alex talked at length about the FBI’s Highway Serial Killings Initiative and Cadaver dogs. She also talked about the research she did into the trucker culture and how her and Erica would be stopping at rest areas while on tour, looking for a Lot Lizard, a truck stop prostitute. She talked about how the Black River State Forest is an excellent dumping ground for bodies a murderer wouldn’t want found. The critters and weather would eat up the body quick, not like the refrigeration of the cold north. I couldn’t help but laugh. She has written thirteen books and has one in the works.
Neither author can imagine writing a book without a murder in it. By the time they tour and promote a new release, they are already writing another novel. Both like to stand when they talk, pacers, making it easy for all of us to see them.
Be sure and check out their websites to see if they will be touring in your area!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I know Alex’s books are always quick and easy reads. The words flow smoothly off the pages making them perfect summer reads. No question in my mind about picking up my copy of her new release – Stranded. I am familiar with a lot of the settings and that makes it even more readable. I’ve stopped at many rest areas and truck stops and never really thought much about it – day or night. Now I will be keeping my eyes open. I want to see a Lot Lizard too.

The big question now is which book do I read first!

New York Times bestselling author Alex Kava returns with another action-packed thriller featuring special agent Maggie O’Dell, who is on the hunt for a “truck stop” serial killer.

Tired travelers and weary truckers have stopped at rest areas on the nation’s highways for decades to refuel, grab a bite, and maybe get some shut-eye, but one man’s rest stop is another’s hunting ground. For decades the defenseless, the weary, and the stranded have disappeared along the highways and byways, vanishing without a trace, but these seemingly unconnected incidents are no coincidence, and a madman stalks the freeways.

When FBI special agent Maggie O’Dell and her partner, Tully, discover the remains of a young woman in a highway ditch, the one clue left behind is a map that will send Maggie and Tully on a frantic hunt crisscrossing the country to stop a madman before he kills again.

As the body count rises and Maggie races against the clock to unmask the monster who’s terrorizing the nation’s highways, she turns to a former foe for help since he seems to know just what the killer’s next move will be. As she gets closer to finding the killer, it becomes eerily clear that Maggie is the ultimate target.

Erica’s books seem to be more about feelings and emotion, delving into the psychological aspect of the story, making them a little heavier. Her new book, Justice for Sara is a perfect example. The writing also flows smoothly and I would not have to think twice about picking up a book with her name on it.

When seventeen-year-old Katherine McCall awakened one morning to find her beloved sister, Sara, brutally murdered, her whole life changed in the blink of an eye. Kat was named the prime suspect and, on a string of circumstantial evidence, charged and tried. While the jury found her innocent, not everyone else agreed, and her only choice was to go into hiding. But she carried a dark secret with her, one that made her worry she might actually have had something to do with Sara’s death . . .

Now, years later, Kat is still haunted by her sister’s unsolved murder and continues to receive chilling anonymous letters, but she has tried to move on with her life. Until, on the tenth anniversary of Sara’s death, she receives a letter that makes the past impossible to ignore: “What about justice for Sara?” What about justice for Sara? And for herself? Kat realizes that going back to Liberty, Louisiana, might be the only way to move forward and find some peace. And there’s a killer out there who was never caught.

But the town she’s come back to is hardly different from the one she left. The secrets and suspicions still run deep. Kat has an ally in Detective Luke Tanner, son of the former Liberty police chief, but he may be her only one. With plenty of enemies, no one to trust and a killer determined to keep a dark secret buried, Kat must decide if justice is worth fighting—and dying—for.

EXCERPT

Six months earlier

Seattle, Washington

 His first taste for killing happened when he was eight. On a visit to his grandparents’ farm, he’d snared a rabbit in a trap he’d built himself. He’d taken out his trusty Swiss Army knife then and there and slit its throat right before he’d skinned it.

But that had been twenty years ago. Since then he’d graduated to bigger and better rabbits. He chuckled at his own joke as he made another pass on foot, past the house where the blonde lived who he’d been spying on for the better part of a week.

He’d already been inside her townhouse. He knew her name was Carrie Bennington and that she lived alone, except for the occasional men she brought home for pleasure and companionship, always on the weekends. He smiled. Carrie didn’t have to worry too much longer about whether she would be alone or not, or how she spent her time, or how dedicated she was at her job as an administrative assistant.

Because the clock ticked and the Grim Reaper waited for Carrie like a long lost friend, or maybe it was a nice friendly labradoodle. Either way, he’d picked Carrie after she’d caught his eye at the marketplace and he’d followed her home. That had been a week ago last Saturday. He’d waited until that Monday morning after she’d left for work before he’d picked the lock on her sliding glass door and slipped inside. That had been the first time, the neighbors none the wiser. So much for the neighborhood watch program.

Because he was good at climbing, athletic and lean, he didn’t let things like a two-story apartment building dissuade him from getting at his quarry, not if he really wanted to get inside. He’d been a long distance runner in high school and still kept in shape. But even so, he liked to keep it simple. He preferred it when his victims had the good sense to own their own homes. Like Carrie who lived in a stylish two-story townhouse with an undersized courtyard.

He’d spent hours there going through her closets, her dresser drawers, even her refrigerator. He’d used her bathroom. After all, when the urge to take a dump hit a guy, he had to go.

Every day this week he’d spent some time in Carrie’s home. He’d watched. He’d waited. That’s how he knew what time she left for work each morning, what time she unlocked her front door every evening, and where she picked up men during happy hour on Friday and Saturday nights.

He knew she kept a vibrator in her nightstand, the one on the left hand side of the bed. He knew which store she’d purchased her last pair of underwear from.

It excited him that he could come and go as he liked. He touched the ring he carried inside the pocket of his hoodie, the ring he’d taken from her jewelry box, some dime-store trinket he’d known when he took it that she’d never miss. The ring kept him focused, had for a week. Not that he needed incentive or purpose to think of what he wanted to do to Carrie. But the ring was a reminder that he could come and go in her things, get inside the place where she should’ve been the safest whenever he needed or wanted.

Standing under the light from a street lamp, he watched as Carrie’s bedroom light went out right on schedule. Ten-thirty. He shook his head. One thing about Carrie, she was dependable.  He walked to the end of the block, sliding into the shadows of the alley behind her co-op. When he reached the six-foot fence, he took the time to stretch on a pair of gloves. He had help vaulting over the barrier by using crates he’d had the forethought to stack along the alleyway beforehand.

In the backyard, he took out his penlight. He went over to the little outdoor shed Carrie used as a greenhouse, found the metal pipe he’d spotted there a week earlier. He hefted the weight onto his shoulder and stepped to the sliding glass door. He didn’t need the tool to break the glass. Only amateurs made too much noise. And he was no novice at B&E or killing. No, he had another use in mind for the heavy rod. From the inside of his pocket, he took out his mask, pulled it down over his head. He pulled out his picklock and went to work on the door he’d already breached once before.

Inside the living room, he scanned the area using the beam of light. Even though he had familiarized himself with the location of the sofa, the coffee table, the bookcase—which wall held the flat-screen television, which side of the room had the fireplace—he still took his time until his eyes adjusted. But knowing the layout made it easier for him to make his way to the staircase in short order. He managed to avoid the steps that creaked along the way up and kept to the path that allowed him the art of surprise.

When he stepped into Carrie Bennington’s bedroom and stood over her sleeping form, he paused long enough to appreciate her golden hair, her soft skin, her long neck. By the time he placed his hand over her mouth it was too late. He thrilled at the terror he saw reflected in her green eyes. Not only that, but it excited him to know his face would be the last one she’d ever see.

In her spare time she tries to grow things which other people commonly refer to as gardening. She loves reading all kinds of books, both fiction and non-fiction, loves to play video games, and enjoys watching football with the hubby. If you’ve ever read any of her books, you know she’s a die-hard Raider fan, which means she has the patience of Job.

She lives for chocolate, but then who doesn’t? She’ll kill for a cup of coffee in the morning. She’s convinced the best food on earth is French fries. And she could easily be a vegetarian if it wasn’t for bacon.

New Release – Still Life by Michael Montoure

I am very happy to bring to your attention Michael Montoure’s new release Still Life. As you will see from his selection of books at the end of this post, he is a prolific writer. His covers are eye catching and I felt compelled to include most of them. Take a minute to check them out and his stories are……well, if you like creepy, read on.

 Add Shudder to Goodreads

With the suicide of her best friend, burned-out rock star Nikki Velvet came face-to-face with death, and she’d do anything not to face it again. When a mysterious stranger offers her immortality, she believes she’s found what she’s been searching for, but it’s nothing like she’s imagined ….

Sylvan, the beautiful stranger who’d promised to make her a vampire, turned out to be all too human. He keeps his promise — but only to leave her weak, helpless, and addicted to his blood.

Now, trapped in her new life with him — and with Paul, the vampire she’s replaced as Sylvan’s favorite — Nikki struggles to rise above Sylvan’s control and Paul’s jealousy, and to find a way out with the help from the ghosts of her past.

But it might not be so simple. When Sylvan risks the retribution of the enigmatic Shadow Market, Nikki has to find her own fate, before time runs out for all of them ….

STILL LIFE is a story of loss, isolation, the things we mistake for love, and the way back out of the dark.

“Action!” Dollar shouted. Then, quieter, to her. “Oh, I will enjoy watching your end, Precious. Every single second of it. Every cut, every lick of blood, every morsel of flesh that drops off your body.”

Tequila felt her eyes bulge out of their sockets. She was too terrified to breathe, too stunned to think. And still, the beast walked nearer. He sneered, and then lifted up the scalpel until it was level with his chin.

“Don’t forget to scream,” he whispered.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Image of Ella MedlerElla Medler is a U.K. author and free-lance editor. She writes fiction in more than one genre in a seemingly vain attempt to slow down her overactive brain enough to write non-fiction on subjects she knows a thing or two about. She also does not believe in the starchy use of English and ignores the type of rule that doesn’t allow for a sentence to be finished in a preposition. Her books – whatever genre they may be – are action-driven. Well-developed, multi-layered characters are her forte.
Loves: freedom.
Hates: her inner censor.

Books:

MARTIN LITTLE, RESURRECTED – a lighthearted fantasy novel full of action and unique takes on life. It’s total escapism.

BLOOD IS HEAVIER – book one in the Hunter Series, an action thriller. An explosive and emotional struggle to save a father’s most treasured possession.

BLOOD IS POWER – book two in the Hunter Series. The action continues on international level and across multiple timezones. Darker, grittier than the first, and posing questions we’d rather not answer.

ETERNAL ISLAND – book one in the Eternal Series, a paranormal romance featuring an original take on vampires and witches, almost a spoof. Funny and entertaining. Collaboration with K.S. Haigwood

ETERNAL IMMORTALITY – book two in the Eternal Series. The adventures continue. Abe and Ariana have more than themselves to save this time.

Future releases:

BLOOD IS THE END (working title)-(book three and last in the Hunter Series)

DEAL WITH IT! – Tequila’s Story – spin-off from the Hunter Series, by popular demand

MARTIN LITTLE TAKES EPIC ACTION (book two in the Martin Little Series)

ETERNAL INCEPTION (book three in the Eternal Series)

ABOUT THREE AUTHORS (women’s fiction, in collaboration with Patti Roberts)

PARIAH (book one in the Unwanted Series – drama)
