A Dead Red Miracle
by R.P. Dahlke
Series: Dead Red Mystery, #5
Genre:  Mystery, Women Sleuth, Humor

Thinking  to jump start their careers as private investigators in Wishbone, Arizona, cousins Lalla and Pearlie Bains buy into it with a local P.I.

But their nifty plan starts circling the drain when his unscrupulous business practices end in his untimely death and they discover that he’s been stealing clients and two-timing everyone else.

With only a week before the state pulls their business license, Lalla and Pearlie will have to corral a wall-climbing Apache ninja, pacify their former boss’s greedy ex-wives and nail a killer. Sure Lalla and Pearlie are in a really tight spot, but all they need is a miracle or two.

Will be FREE on Amazon 9/28 – 10/2

Meet R.P. Dahlke

I write humorous mysteries about an annoyingly tenacious tall, blonde and beautiful, ex-model turned crop-duster who, to quote Lalla Bains, says: “I’ve been married so many times they oughta revoke my license.” I wanted to give readers a peek at a not so-perfect life of a woman who is not afraid of chipping her manicure because she doesn’t have time for a manicure, what with herding a bunch of recalcitrant pilots and juggling work orders just to keep her father’s flagging business alive.

Beginning with #4 in the series, A Dead Red Alibi, Lalla and her family will reside in South East Arizona where she will divide her time between a fledgling P.I. business with cousin, Pearlie Bains, and volunteering as a team member with  Cochise County Search and Rescue.

I also write a romantic sailing mystery trilogy: A Dangerous Harbor and Hurricane Hole.

Goody One Shoe
by Julie Frayn
Genre:  Psychological Suspense

Billie Fullalove witnesses the murder of her parents at the hands of a gun-wielding thug. In the melee, Billie loses a leg. But her Batmanesque beginnings don’t turn her into a superhero. Yet. Billie survives her lonely childhood and settles into a solitary life, pursuing her dream of being an editor in a top publishing house. Unable to avenge her parents’ unsolved murder, she is accosted by news stories of bad guys going free thanks to an inept court system. She wields her red pen and edits the newspaper to fight evil forces, right wrongs, and bring justice to victims. When her edits come true, and criminals start dying, Billie must discover the vigilante’s identity before they act out more of her revenge fantasies.

Meet Julie Frayn

Bean counter by day, Julie Frayn spends her off hours penning award-winning novels and short stories that pack a punch. And a few stabs. When not working or writing, Julie spend as much time as possible with her babies. Well, they’re grown adults now, but they still think she’s cool. Right kids? Right? Hello?

In grade school, Julie was a math whiz, loved to write stories and poems in English class, and had an artistic flair for pencil drawings and pen and ink pointillism. When it came time to choose a career, she was torn between three loves. Her artistic brain ached to create. But her practical side, and the need to eat, won out. Though she’s devoted her career to numbers, she revels in the written word.

Class Heroes: Young Adult Thriller Books

Stephen Henning is the author of Class Heroes, a wonderful story about superheroes.

He has created these videos, mini movies, if you will, and I wanted to share them with you. What do you think? Is this something you would read?

James Blake has a tough choice to make. His life should be easy. He has extraordinary abilities and a hot girlfriend. Does it get any better than that for a teenage boy?
But where do his loyalties lie? With his twin sister Samantha? Or with his new girlfriend, Lolly Rosewood?

You can see more here.

HELP! When Should I Cross-Post My Review Poll

Authors, Publishers Tour Companies & Bloggers

Help me out, please!

I love to read and review books and have a simple question.

I have always cross-posted my reviews after they were published on my blog, until recently.

I love to be the first person to review a book, but the main reason I have started doing it is because I can do it at my leisure.

I used to scramble to get them posted to Amazon and Goodreads the day the review was published on my blog. Then I found myself losing track and sometimes forgetting about it and not posting for days or longer.

When should I post my review?

pollcode.com free polls

.

I post to Amazon, Goodreads, Library Shelf, Shelfari and B & N as soon as the review is scheduled on my blog.

After publishing the review on my blog, I then add it to Booklikes, Tumbler and Literary Addict.

When do you post your review?

I would love to hear your thoughts. Please share them here, so everyone can benefit.

Thanks for your time.

MY REVIEW
.
The delivery of the treadmill should have raised all the red warning flags to him.
I felt like shouting at Bob, “Don’t do it!”
“Don’t get on it!”
Oh no.
He did it.
Anthony Renfro took me down a horrid road, proving that if something seems too good to be true, it generally is.
Got five minutes?
How about a quick trip around the treadmill?
Anthony Renfro packs plenty of suspense and action in Killer Treads from the opening words.

My Latest Fabulous Adventure!

Summer is in full swing and the Fourth of July is rapidly approaching. If you are lucky, like me, family is arriving. Plans and preparations are being made.

Mr Wonderful, my hubby has taken time off from work to spend time with my family. The guys are gone today, on an all day fishing trip, so I have a moment to share a bit of what we have been doing so far.

Blue Angels Star (c) Sherry Fundin

Blue Angels Star (c) Sherry Fundin

Mr Wonderful works for the AA baseball team, in his second job. As a TV guy, he doesn’t have the usual 9 to 5 working day and he picks up any freelance work whenever he can. TV people are a strange breed and they have a passion for their work. One of the guys he works with is in the Navy and in the business of promoting the Blue Angels. His photography is amazing and we were given the VIP treatment at a recent practice session. My brother, Steve, is down from Michigan, so we were especially excited to be able to share this with him.

Afterwards, we were given a tour of The Blues office area. We even stepped into the debriefing room.

I would like to send out a special thank you to Mike for sharing his time with us and making us feel important…

and to The Blues, thank you so much the sacrifices you make.

Our next stop was a visit to the Florabama, on the Florida/Alabama state line. Seems like something interesting is always going on here and this week it is a beached aircraft from the upcoming movie, “The U.S.S. Indianapolis: Men of Courage,” starring Nicolas Cage. The plane landed, the producers were able to get their shots, then the plane began taking on water. They beached it and now begins the process of salvaging the damaged plane.

We ended the day with a dip in the pool and boy were we ready for it. The weather was typical for Florida, hot, humid and hazy. The sun shines and the clouds dot the sky. Sometimes cloud cover is a blessing, the only shade available.

What have you been up to? Do you have any special plans for the Fourth of July?

Run and Run Fast – Review – The Beast of Bradley Downs by Stephanie O’Hanlon

The title for The Beast of Bradley Downs by Stephanie O’Hanlon caught my eye, but it was the cover that finished me off. I love horror and this looked like a good one.

Check out this awesomely creepy cover for yourself. Simple, but it says so much.

The Beast of Bradley Downs by Stephanie O’Hanlon

Publisher: Damnation Books, LLC (May 1, 2015)

MY REVIEW

The Beast of Bradley Downs by Stephanie O’Hanlon is a fantastically good debut horror novel loaded with action from the getgo.

WEREWOLF_3_by_el_grimlock

Karoline Hale lives in the small town of Bradley Downs. The legend of mysterious deaths and the burning of the town were rationalized by its citizens, because no way could they conceive the truth. She had pale skin and her lipstick was a red slash across her face. She loves horror movies, but she doesn’t want to be in one.

Mitch is her best friend, but he would like to be more. The question is, does she? Sometimes the one you love is right in front of you, but you don’t see it.

She is on the run…from IT. Is that IT in the shadows? Is that IT making that noise? Is that ITs crunching footsteps behind her? Is that IT exhaling ITs hot breathe on her neck?

Stephanie O’Hanlon uses all the horror trickes, including my, er…favorite, the monster under the bed, reaching out to grab my foot…I mean YOUR foot. 🙂

The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. I kept waiting, waiting, knowing it was coming, just didn’t know when. Uh oh, she’s way too happy and it’s Halloween.

CronnInRage

My biggest problem was buying the fact that the townspeople blew off the danger to everyone after numerous gruesome deaths. But, as I thought about real life, don’t we refuse to see the unexplainable? Besides, it is fiction and sometimes we need to let some things slide to make the story better. I let it play through my mind like a movie.

A lot of the story is predictable, but beware, every once in a while Stephanie will throw a surprise at you. The suspense of the threat of attack was felt throughout The Beast of Bradley Downs. I had a feeling that something I didn’t want to happen would, and darn it Stephanie, you did it! I feel that made the book even better, though I didn’t like it. LOL I had a feeling I knew the ending…yeah, right. Stephanie did it again. The ending knocked me for a loop and it was most definitely not what I thought it would be. I love that. How often does that happen to you? I will be looking for more of her work.

I received The Beast of Bradley Downs from Stephanie O’Hanlon in return for an honest review.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos  4 Stars

EXCERPT FROM THE RESURRECTION OF SAM SLOAN BY ERIN QUINN

The Reaper moved to stand beside the woman. Up close, her eyes shimmered with tears she was either too proud or too hurt to shed. She had long, dark hair that fell in a silky cloud to just below her shoulder blades. He touched it, wishing for the first time that he had the same senses as humans. Wishing he could feel the glossy strands.

She caught her breath and looked right at him once more. Her pulse beat a hard and erratic tempo at the base of her throat. Her eyes widened, the kaleidoscope of blues and greens mixing and changing. Her skin looked like pearl, her lips so soft he wanted to touch those, too.

The machines beeped frantically, drawing her back into the unfolding drama. The doctors began administering emergency measures, and two more nurses rushed in to assist. Maggie watched it all with an impassive expression, but he saw the panic she couldn’t hide. He felt the bitter desperation, the guilt-ridden relief that it would soon be over.

It was time, but suddenly the Reaper wasn’t ready to see the interlude end. One of the nurses pulled the blanket off the man, unveiling his inert, muscular body and pulling down the gown so it bunched at his waist. Even in death, he appeared strong, a big man with broad shoulders and a solid chest. Someone pushed a cart in the room, and Maggie shifted to the side to let them by.

She was almost touching him now.

Almost.

The temptation to bridge that gap became a seed, a sprout, then a vine that wrapped around him and choked out any thought to resist. In the moment of reaping, when he and the reaped would be one, he might touch her. He might feel her.

The Reaper shrouded himself in death and moved over Samuel Sloan, seeping beneath his skin to the soul that had brought this woman such complex pain. The man’s brain still controlled his failing organs, still commanded his slowly beating heart and forced his weakened lungs to inflate, but his consciousness, that which made him the human, Sam Sloan, had long since ceased. The Reaper gathered up his soul and held tightly, emerging with just one goal.

Touch the woman.

He brushed his elusive shape against her like a dawn mist settling before a rising sun. He knew the moment—the very instant—she felt him. A fine tremble went through her body. Her lush lips parted, her breath caught.

She was warm, so very warm. So intricately alive. Flesh and blood, bone and hollow. Sensations enhanced by the eyes of the human’s memory, until she became a bright, shining thing that blinded him with beauty.

The desire to see more, to feel more, became a burning need. Her soul was so lovely, so ethereal, so alive that it glittered, diamond bright—just there.

The Reaper reached. The Reaper touched. Deep inside him, he felt the human he’d come for awake and protest.

Somewhere in the room a doctor said, “Clear,” and pressed paddles to the human’s chest. Warning flashed red in the Reaper’s mind a split second before searing pain sliced through the human, impaling them both.

The body on the bed jerked violently. The Reaper recoiled, and Maggie jumped back just as the doctor said, “Clear,” once more. A second volt went through the human, through the Reaper, down to a place that shouldn’t exist, galvanizing them both.

The Reaper knew the smell of fear in humans, but he’d never known it in himself until that moment when he felt the man’s soul slipping backwards, felt the claws of it sunk deep inside him, thorns in the vine he himself had planted.

One last time, the doctor said, “Clear,” and the die was cast, the fate was written.

The Reaper and Sam Sloan slammed back into the vessel from which they came.
