My 56
“At least according to the cops,” says Harry. “Could be whoever did it just panicked. Think about it: You just get in the place, getting ready to do your burglary. She walks in. You freak out. You pop her It’s happened before.”
(Page 56 in hardcover, published in 2005)
Book Beginnings
Mist off the ocean was already beginning to drift over the pavement as he cruised along the beach in the rented Chevy. The house stood out like a gem, the last piece of private real estate before the public steps leading down to the beach. With chocolate-brown siding and white trim, the house sported rustic gables going in every direction beneath a river rock chimney.
GOODREADS BLURB: The Arraignment, Steve Martini’s most recent bestseller featuring defense attorney Paul Madriani, has proved his most popular yet. Now Madriani is faced with daunting ballistics evidence: a so-called “double tap”-two bullet wounds tightly grouped in the victim’s head, shots that could have been made only by a crack marksman. Paul’s client, Emiliano Ruiz, is an enigma-a career soldier who refuses to discuss his past though it is clear that he is a battle-tested pro. Ruiz is accused of killing a beautiful businesswoman and guru of a high-tech software empire catering to the military. A key to the case: the murder weapon is one used solely in special operations, where the “double tap” has become the signature of the most skilled assassins.
Ruiz is sitting on secrets-there’s a seven-year gap on his military risumi, for which Madriani can find no details. And, more troubling, he discovers that the victim and her company were involved in a controversial government computer program designed to combat terrorists. Madriani finds himself in a deadly legal quagmire-with a client who is unwilling to cooperate and prosecutors who stonewall his every question about the victim’s shadowy business and his client’s past. Justice, and the unvarnished truth, has never been so elusive-or so dangerous.

WHICH COVER WOULD YOU CHOOSE, including the one above?
So nonchalant. LOL I haven’t read this author in a long time. Funny how we get pulled away from an author and it takes something like this meme yo remind us why we enjoyed them!
My Friday 56 from The Appeal Of Evil
I haven’t read this author, but I love a good legal thriller. Thanks for sharing! And thanks for visiting my blog.
This one sounds interesting, thanks for mentioning it. 🙂
Sounds like a good murder mystery. I like the way the author establishes the setting right away. The title and cover made me curious.
Thank you for leaving a comment on my Friday post.

I haven’t read anything by this author yet–but he is on my list of must-try writers.
Hi Sherry,
I have a couple of Steve Martini books on my shelves, which have been left there unopened, for some time. I had no idea we would be up to book 8 in the series, so I am wondering whether or not they can be read as stand alone stories?
I have read a couple of good legal thrillers just lately, so I am on something of a genre roll. This might be a good time to give Martini a try.
Your excerpts were very enticing and I think that I prefer the brighter red of the cover selection. It is a bit more dramatic than the others, a bit more atuned to the synopsis.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy your weekend 🙂
Yvonne
Hi Yvonne. Yes they will stand alone. Thanks for dropping in.
Sounds like a book that pulls the reader right in! Happy weekend!
I’m just getting back into thrillers and need to meet some authors I missed. Steve Martini is one of them. This week I have Death Among Rubies by R. J. Koreto – a historical mystery. Happy reading!
Haven’t heard of this one, but it sounds like quite the crime that needs to be solved. Hope you enjoy your weekend!
I’ve been wanting to read this author. Sounds good.
Thanks so much everyone for dropping in. Loved seeing you and hope you have a great weekend. 🙂
Not read this author but this sounds like a good one. 🙂
Can’t go wrong if you like a good thrill.
I’d have to agree, two quick shots in the forehead, I’m sure if I freaked I’d be lucky to hit a person! lol
I like to think I’m a badass, but I know what you mean. LOL
I’ve read a couple by Martini and I enjoyed them! Happy reading!
