The first of the week, we took a road trip over to Biloxi, Mississippi. We had some great weather, in the low 70s, sunny and warm. We love this quaint little town. We took some beautiful photos and did a little gambling. We also, stopped by practice for the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. I love football, so I will get in my last fixes before the season comes to its climax in the Super Bowl. Do you like football or have a favorite college or pro football team?

I have been reading and reading and reading.
I finish one book and immediately begin on another.
I can’t seem to stop myself long enough to write the reviews.

GROWL by Ashley Fontainne
When evil arrived, all of Mississippi heard it.
I love this awesome cover that tells me there is a monster in the swamp.
Who will be its victim?
~~~~~~~~~~~(Book Beginnings)
The synopsis is the first paragraph of the book, so here is an additional little tease.
Then, it turned out to be true. Looking back with wiser eyes now, my family and I concluded that the events leading up to my transformation started the summer I turned nine.
SYNOPSIS
My name is Sheryl Ilene Newcomb. And yes, my initials are S.I.N. A funny little piece of whimsical humor my parents found amusing when I arrived.
Then, it turned out to be true. Looking back with wiser eyes now, my family and I concluded that the events leading up to my transformation started the summer I turned nine. But the day we realized there was a problem, and no turning back, was a week before I started my senior year at Junction City High. The day the fangs and claws appeared and the monster inside of me emerged.
When mutilated corpses appeared near a pile of brush down by Caney Creek, everything changed. Because evil woke up and growled, its ominous rumblings heard by every living thing in Locasia County, Mississippi.
Okay, this sounds exactly like my kind of read! I’m adding it to my tbr. Have a great weekend!
Glad you like it. Happy reading and a great weekend to you too.
Oh, sounds creepy! http://lisaksbookthoughts.blogspot.com/
I think you could say it is suitably creepy. 🙂 Happy reading, Lisa.
Looks and sounds very spooky/scary! Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.
Happy to stop in and see what you were sharing, Laurel. Have a good weekend.
Love “MeeMaw” — such a terrific Southern nickname for grandmothers! I’m wondering what “skills” were passed on. Sounds like this could be a good, scary story.
Thank you for stopping by my blog and taking the time to leave a comment.
Sandy @ TEXAS TWANG
Hi Sandra. Yes, this is a bit scary and creepy. I love Meemaw. It does speak of the south and she does try to do right by Sheryl. Thanks for visiting and have a great weekend.
I have never been to Mississippi or to the swamp and this certainly looks like a scary read! I know what you mean about trying to find time to write reviews in the midst of just wanting to start a new book. This is an endless predicament for us readers! -Katie @ Bookish Illuminations
It’s a wonderful predicament to be in. LOL Thanks for stopping in Katie and I hope your next book is a great one.
Wow. That cover and title immediately drew me in. Must find out more…
Isn’t it fantastic? Ashley did the cover herself. Happy reading.
Hi Sherry,
I have visited the US over 20 times, although I have only ever got as far as Florida, although never The Everglades. Hubbie used to work for US companies and has visited many of the States, although never Mississippi.
Like yourself, I am finding that although I have time to work up plenty of promotional posts for a book or author, when it comes to actually publishing a review, I am found sadly lacking. I do think that much of the problem is of my own making, as I do tend to rather over analyze a book, rather than writing spontaneously. Add to that the fact that I am busy lining up my next book, whilst still only midway through my current read and you have some idea of the dilemma, which is one I am certain that many of us share 🙂
Whilst ‘Growl’ isn’t probably the book for me, I love that arresting green cover art, the descriptive writing style of the excerpts you shared with us and that great word ‘meemaw’, which I have never heard used before, here in the UK.
Thanks for sharing your interesting post with us and have a good weekend.
Yvonne
I live in Florida so I hope you enjoyed your visits to our wonderful state. I know what you mean about the reviews. My finger used to hover over the publish button for a post – is it ready – can I do better? Just have to click it and let it fly. 🙂 Meemaw is a southern term of endearment for a grandmother. I love just saying it. Try it. Say it out loud. 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by Yvonne.
Sounds like a fun road trip! I haven’t been to Biloxi since before Katrina so I’m sure it’s changed tremendously! Interesting book this week. I like the excerpt and I’m curious to see where it goes. I have family in south Mississippi so I’ve spent a pretty good bit of time there. It looks like my one of my kinds may end up going to University of Southern Mississippi. It’s an interesting area! Thanks for sharing! I’ll have to look for this one.
Yes, it will never be the say. All those stately mansions along the coast road are gone, never to be seen again. It is sad, yet things go on. Oh no – Southern Miss. My hubby is an Alabama alumni. 🙂 So far, so good with the book and I will be sharing my review on Feb 2.
I love a good creepy read and this one looks like it will fit the bill.
Always wanted to see Tupelo, MS myself…. y’know birthplace of my hunka hunka burnin’ love. 🙂
Happy weekend!
This sounds like an interesting read Sherry. hope you enjoyed it!
Naomi @ Nomi’s Paranormal Palace
I did enjoy it, Naomi. Happy reading and have a great weekend.
Oh Sherry you have me curious and I love the cover. Now I need to know what happened.
Good, that was my intent. Grab your copy and let me know what you think. I don’t always comment on your posts, but I do check out what you are up to. Thanks for dropping in.
That scene in the woods when she was nine was pretty wild. I really liked this book. And the cover art has a clue to what she is!
I’m with you. I was glad that I didn’t figure everything out and it captures from the opening pages. I look forward to seeing your review.
This sounds like a great read. I hope you’re enjoying it.
So far so good. Stop by Feb 2 and see how much I like it. 🙂
Good opening! Thanks for stopping by my blog! 🙂
Glad you like it. I am happy to see what you are sharing and thanks for coming by.
