Monday Mini # 4 – Ready To Die by Lisa Jackson

Lisa Jackson has many novels and I have read a lot of them. Ready To Die is a new release that I picked up at the library.

The yellow of the cover grabbed my attention and as I looked at the tree branches, the face emerged. Is that a tear I see in her eye?

Ready to Die (Selena Alvarez and Regan Pescoli) by Lisa Jackson

Detective Regan Pescoli had called Sherriff Dan Grayson and told him she needed to talk to him. She arrives at his home as he is being gunned down by a sniper.

I never hesitate to pick up a book by LIsa Jackson. Her stories have entertained me for many hours and I was happy to add Ready To Die to that list. The mystery of the sniper will keep you guessing. I thought I knew who the perpetrator was, but Lisa added some twists and turns that left me shaking my head, telling myself I should have seen that coming. Just when I thought the story was told, Lisa took it a step further and then another. As I closed the book, I couldn’t help but smile.

My only complaint was the quality of the editing. It was bad enough, that it interrupted the flow of the story. I do not expect to stumble through a book written by a New York Times Best Selling author like Lisa Jackson.

  1. That does surprise me about the editing of her book, you would think she would have herself together. I used to read a lot of her works, like you the cover is captivating to me too.

    • To tell the truth, I was shocked. I think she needs a new editor. ^_^ I love her books, so that won’t stop me from reading more of her work.

  2. The “editing” comment surprised me too, Sherry, but Lisa Jackson is traditionally published and may not have much control over the editing. I know trad published authors who have protested about the book covers, title changes, editing changes, to no avail. And sometimes, no matter how hard you try, an error slips through. Gulp, I just got an email from a reader who pointed out that I had misspelled Juilliard (as in School of Music) in one of my books. Aaaaaargh! How embarrassing!

    • I can definitely understand some editing issues and overlook them easily. Lisa Jackson should be pissed at her editors, as this book was chock full of editing problems. I have heard about publishers pressing on with releases regardless of the authors wishes. I guess that is a price to be paid. Shame on her publishers! As far as your books, I have had no complaints to make and your writing seems top notch to me. ^_^

  3. An editing problem. Wow, that’s surprising as I too have read so many of her books and never run across that before. That shouldn’t be happening. The cover art is great, as always. Have to check this one out.

  4. I love the cover and the title is right on. Goes with the great story. The amount of editing issues I found deplorable and the publishers should be ashamed of themselves for not putting out a quality product that I know Lisa Jackson is more than capable of doing.
