Pretty cool cover for Sleeping Beauties by Stephen & Owen King.
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
MY REVIEW
Sleeping Beauties is a collaboration between Stephen & Owen King, so I don’t expect it to be a Stephen King ‘original’. That being said, I did enjoy the story, but was left wondering if Stephen has lost his mojo or is in semi retirement. I hope not, because I have read a vast majority of his work and would love to have more of the old stuff. What gripped me most about the book, is the importance of the women. Hey guys, take a listen here. BUT, women without men, or vice versa, is not a workable solution to any problem. This fantasy exposes human failings, sharing their hopelessness, sadness, anger and rage, good and bad, and every emotion you can imagine. In the end, we do the best we can. There are plenty of characters for you to love and hate, but be careful, your favorite may not survive.

GOODREADS BLURB
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep; they become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze.
If they are awakened, and the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place.
The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.
Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied, or is she a demon who must be slain?

I haven’t done well with the more recent Stephen King books and this is one I haven’t actually read. I imagine I’ll get to it at some point!
They are not the same and once I can put that aside and pretended it was someone else, Sleeping Beauties got better. lol
The story sounds so original. I could read it just for its uniqueness.
I know. I think that’s why I liked it. Was different without being too far out there. lol
I do miss his older writing style. I have this one but haven’t got to it yet.
I loved it, but I didn’t see it as a King novel. I tried to pretend he was someone else. But a lot of authors are doing it…James Pattterson teams up with LOTS of authors. That changes the writing style for sure.
I think King’s older stuff is the best although I did quite enjoy The Outsider. It was pretty good. I’ve had this sine it came out but have put off reading it because I’ve seen mixed things. Your review gives me hope.
It’s so not the horror of old. It’s more like science fiction or supernatural, ya know what I mean.? When I got my mind around that, the story kept getting better.
King’s Outsiders proves he still has it, this sadly I struggled with one to many times.
What???? Who???? LOL. I’ll have to check out Outsiders. 🙂
I’ve never read a King book. I’ve tried a few times but couldn’t get into them. 🙁
Yeah, I am not happy when an author, especially one that has only dabbled in one genre, break out of it. But, if you look at this book as if it was written by someone else, it works very well. lol
