MY REVIEW
I loved the prequel and I love zombies and kickass women that take them out. Allie Nighthawk believes that is her only talent. She quickly had me cracking up with her quick wit and and take no prisoner’s attitude. She wears fun T-shirts, like Zombies Hate Fast Food.
…one of the few corpse whisperers who put the toys away when clients are finished playing with them.
We start out with a shocking ‘toy’ that Allie will have to put down. The necromancer from her past is determined to seek his revenge, but Allie will do what needs to be done, no matter what.
Allie has a new partner, Rico De Palma, the department’s new liaison for the Paranormal Crimes Unit. I love having law enforcement and the supernatural intertwined. Puts that something extra into the story that I am always on the lookout for. Too bad they leave corpse whisperers hanging in the wind.
I love the cleanup group that comes in after the mayhem Allie creates….Splatz.
Allie has a nosy neighbor, Nonnie, who constantly complains, but that turns around when Allie starts pet sitting for Kulu and Headbutt, and when Leo enters their life…
The Last Dance…terribly sad.
The zombies are changing, becoming more dangerous. They are becoming more intelligent with an ability to problem solve. Carovescology is a new science created to study zombies. Zombies have been created by getting the Z virus or getting bitten. It seems like someone has come up a new method. We have three kinds of zombies….corpsicles, flesheaters, and the freshies. Who is behind it and why are they doing it?
H R Boldwood’s characters are often disreputable and not to be trusted. They are kicked to the curb at every conceivable opportunity.
The Corpse Whisperer by H R Boldwood is such a fun read, as long as the gore doesn’t gross you out. Me…I love it. The grosser, the better. And that is only partly why I am loving this series. Great characters, great storyline, gruesome and funny at the same time.
I want to thank H R Boldwood for the opportunity to read a free copy of The Corpse Whisperer. Now…on to the next book in the series, Corpse Whisperer Sworn.
GOODREADS BLURB
Welcome to the world of Allie Nighthawk, corpse whisperer and bad ass zombie hunter. “If you raise deadheads, you’d better be able to put ‘em down. Nobody said it was pretty. But in this day, when vampires aren’t just for breakfast anymore, and the dead are disposable pawns for necromancers, someone has to ante up. Looks like I won the lotto. Imagine my delight. You should thank me, really, because the world is batshit crazy.” When the zombie population spikes and no one knows why, it’s up to Allie to solve the mystery. But there’s a hitch. She’s stuck babysitting Leo Abruzzi, a zombie-bitten gangster who’s turning state’s evidence. But the mob and a powerful necromancer will stop at nothing to take Leo and Allie down. Allie Nighthawk is Anita Blake on steroids, with a fondness for leather and Jack on the rocks. She has a healthy dose of Stephanie Plum and Rachel Morgan in her, too, though she’d never admit it. The battle between good and evil just got wicked fun.
