I added Fields Of Elysium by A B Whelan to my TBR on 2.23.13. On the cover it says for Twilight Fans. Back in 2013, I probably wouldn’t have known about it because I saw the movies before I read the books. LOVE, love, love them both, so I am very excited about Fields of Elysium. Also, I have read numerous books from A B Whelan and love them, so to knock another off the first book of the series sounds great to me. Have you read any of her work? I highly recommend it.

MY REVIEW

A B Whelan is a must read author for me, so I was super excited to have another novel from her. AND secrets, I love when secrets are exposed and the shit hits the fan, so let’s get started on the review for Big Little Secrets.

First, we’ll meet Nelli Horvath, a Hungarian immigrant and the wife of Clint Horvath. She made one mistake during her teenage years and it has haunted her ever since. Her life has been gray, with moments of happiness here and there. She keeps tight control of herself, lest her secret from the past escapes. She didn’t expect much from life when she fled Hungary and came to the United States…but then, she met Clint. What can be so bad she can’t share it with her husband?

Things are happening around her and when the invitation for her twentieth reunion came, she felt she had no choice but to attend. She loves her husband, but she will travel to Hungary alone. I can’t imagine living under the weight of her worry, her guilt, just waiting for the anvil to drop and crush her.

She had lived under socialism in Hungary where you learned, ‘It is what it is.’ I learned a bit about Hungary, its people and their cuisine. I love when an author does their research.

My rating: For most of the book I kept thinking my rating would be a three, but the mystery was not easily solved because of so many moving parts and the ending was worth a star, seeing it was unexpected and left me feeling sad and angry, and sad and angry….

Piggyback Killer – If I Had Two Lives by A B Whelan @AuthorABWhelan

Oh yeah. I have read a couple other books by A B Whelan already this year and loved them, so to add If I Had Two Lives to my repertoire was a welcome addition. Check out the fantastic cover. It really creeps me out and I can’t wait to dive in. What do you think?

I love the cover for If I Had Two Lives by A B Whelan. The colors pop and the content creeps me out. If I Had Two Lives was inspired by a young woman in a vegetative state. I think I have read another book or saw a TV show about the event, so it made me even more curious about If I Had Two Lives.

I am sickened, filled with disgust, yet oddly drawn to know more.

As Vicki Collins, an FBI agent, investigated the Piggyback Killer, a problem arises that causes her much difficulty…an unknown brother with a criminal record. The FBI frowns on secrets. And there is so much more to come than she could have anticipated.

Doug…he’s a piece of work. I can’t figure out why she is with him, other than an occasional hop in the sack being more convenient than going out and looking for it. The more I get to know him, the less I like him.

Human nature is why I love to read thrillers, and the more damaged the characters, the better. Will they be redeemed? Will they succumb to their baggage? I want to know what happens when the shit flies. My curiosity is a monster with an insatiable appetite that can never be satisfied.

Though If I Had Two Lives seems choppier and more disjointed than other books I have read by A B Whelan, I still loved the story. The blows to Vicki keep on coming and I didn’t see everything coming. I love book surprises and reward them. The more I read, the harder it was to put the book down. I had to know how it would end. I love that through all the suspects, he remained elusive….until we came face to face.

The title for 14 Days To Die by A B Whelan made me very curious about the book. I have read some of her work and the latest, No One Can Hear You Scream blew me away, so when she offered me a couple of books that I hadn’t read, I jumped all over it.

Sarah Johnson was like the three monkeys – hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil.

How long can someone live like that? How long before they say, enough is enough. How far will someone go for their own desires? Does anyone know what really goes on in someone’s mind…even when standing face to face, eye to eye?

Uh oh, he’s a Gemini, a two faced manipulator. I’m a Gemini too, but I feel a kinship with her, not him. She blogs, like us. She doesn’t make a lot of money. It is a labor of love.

Do we all have the capacity to kill buried in our snake brain?

I flip from humor to outrage, from smiles and laughs to spitting fire. My blood was boiling throughout the entire book. It didn’t matter if I had any idea where we were going or how it would end. I’ll find out when I get there.

I can relate to her frustration and see how she got ‘there’. Sooner or later, we make a decision, or it is made for us. I laugh with her, instead of pitying her.

Tension, tension, tension…

I found A B Whelan when I came along a freebie. Who knows where it came from, a blog I visited, a giveaway I participated in, or maybe I just scrolled through Amazon and found it. Either way, I am glad I did, because this woman can write!

I love deep, dark, twisted novels and No One Can Hear You Scream fits the bill to a T. Warning! Brace yourself! Brutal. Graphic.

The animal sanctuary took in those pets whose owners didn’t want them any more. Sounds like a good story…right?

Jennifer Parker is a YouTube influencer and shares her time with the animal sanctuary, as does her son, Jayden. He even created an Instagram account for George, a cow, who is the star. I love that our social media world is making an appearance in novels, not always in a good way.

I immediately didn’t like Tyler, her momma’s boy husband. Looks to me like she has another child instead of a life partner. Good thing she ditched him. He might have made a good boy toy, but is not a keeper.

Again…I am furious, sickened, disgusted…If I were ever to meet someone like HIM I hope I would have the courage to take him out! The abuse is shocking, even for me and I love being shocked and sickened in a depraved thriller sort of way.

We have two plots going on, and, though I haven’t talked about Alex, I have a feeling I know what part his story will play.

No One Can Hear You Scream by A B Whelan may have you thinking twice about putting your life on line, for all the world to see.

OMG…I see it coming…so freaking twisted! I had to take a deep breath at 82%. The evil keeps on going. Well, I didn’t see that coming…and that is why I love A B Whelan so much. She gives and she teases. I figure out one thing, then, BAM, in your face.

This line really hit home: Our world has gotten so small it suffocates us.

I had moments where I wanted to shout out to Jennifer…and the police!

Mind blowing. Gut wrenching. I love this dark, gritty, horrendous story that others may shy away from, and A B Whelan took it to the max with No One Can Hear You Scream

Review – This Love Kills Me by A B Whelan @AuthorABWhelan

The media, the gossipmongers, and the rich disparage the reputation of Julia Rose after she is declared lost at sea during a cruise, but Annie Adams is determined to get the facts…and…maybe…revenge for her.

A terrible mistake as a fourteen year old girl left Annie broken and afraid, her desire for making it right for Julia has become her driving force. What is left for her, if her need to avenge Julia is taken from her?

I love that the blurb is vague about Annie and gives nothing away, so I will try not to either. Many questions will be answered early in the book, but others….

There are trigger situations, but I don’t want to share them, because I loved that the book was more than I thought it would be and had characters that still managed to care, though their pasts were so damaging and they have suffered so much.

Our age isnt measured in years but how heavy our heart is.

Life isn’t about what you’ve done in the past, but how you overcome your failures and move forward from them.

I love an author that can surprise me with all the details of the story and obstacles the characters must overcome, and A B Whelan does that very well.

Revenge and redemption.

My favorite character has to be Annie, but Brooke is right up there. Both women are psychologically damaged, unable to move on with their lives, but they are both stronger than they believe, diligent and persistent in their effort to solve the mystery of Julia. Maybe they will find peace of mind, or at least a chance of healing.

If you pick up This Love Kills Me by A B Whelan, I wish you luck putting it down before the last page is read. I couldn’t…and it kept me fully engrossed until I got there.

Well…I only wrote down one sentence in my notebook for review notes:

Olivia lives the world of a rich, trophy wife. She is a slave to her husband, not free to do anything he doesn’t approve. I love that she has her way of getting even and letting out a bit of her frustration. I laughed out loud. Take that Mr Serial Killer.

This is not a dark and gritty, soul sucking suspense thriller that I love so much, but it does have its moments. I saw where someone likened it to Big Little Lies and I agree.

As Sick As Our Lives, to me, is an in depth look at someone who is so beaten down by her husband, that she cannot make a move without his approval. It’s not about the serial killer husband, it’s about her, Olivia. It takes her a long time to come to realize and accept who he is and what she is going to do about.it.

You have to walk in her steps. Live in her make believe world where all is sunshine and unicorns…NOT. It is easy to put on a false face. to hide your true self from others. Imagine you are frozen, unable to make any decision for yourself. How long would it be before you make a move to save yourself? How would you go about getting our from under a domineering, controlling, dangerous significant other? Some women never do, and pay the ultimate price. Is that Olivia’s future? Waiting for HIM to be done with her? Waiting for HIM to decide when he has had enough of her? Or…

You will have to read it for yourself to find out. LOL

About the Author

A. B. WhelanI’m a Hungarian born American writer, who was lucky
enough to travel Europe, Africa, and The Middle East and live in Ecuador, Crete
and Italy. I graduated as a computer engineer, thus if anybody
tells you math and literature can’t walk hand in hand, don’t believe them.

I’m the author of the Fields of Elysium saga, which I
like to call a young adult romantic fantasy. The first book of the series was
inspired by amazing movies like Dirty Dancing, Avatar, and Twilight and earned
praise from prestigious review companies and readers. I’m currently working on
book three and four, and planning to write two more novellas to finish the
series, dedicated to two very interesting characters in my story, Victor Sorren,
the byronic hero, and The Prophet, the mysterious leader of the Arkanians.
