Anthony Renfro writes some fantastic horror stories, but Nightlight Poetry is a bit different, a tasty treat of poetry and haikus.
MY TEASE AND ONE SENTENCE REVIEW
Entombed and 5 Deadly Senses are my favorites of Anthony Renfro’s poetry that is filled with thrills, chills, and fear in haikus and poetry that had me jumping at shadows and wanting to scream, and made me think twice about walking outside…in the dark…or snuggling up in bed.
GOODREADS BLURB
Poetry and Haiku about the things that lurk in the darkness and the fears in every human mind.
I have been reading Anthony Renfro’s horror stories for some time now. I am always eager to get my hands on a new one, all while trying to catch up on the backlog of his work that I haven’t read yet. Just keep ’em coming Anthony.
God vs Devil. Good vs Evil. Is man inherently good? Do we just stray occasionally, only to come back to our true selves?
Anthony Renfro has a way with words, showing me the haunted house. You know, the one the neighborhood kids talked about, daring each other to spend the night alone.
Satan fights to claim Tom’s soul. What would you do if you met Satan face to face?
One day Satan approached God and said he’s mine.
God said he’s mine.
Now, we will see what choices Tom makes. Satan will dog his every step to drag him down to Hell. He pops up here, there, leaving his messages.
tom is not a shining example of being a husband or father, but he’s not a serial killer wither. He had become a Ghost Buster, along the lines of Ghost Whisperer. He could see and talk to the dead, helping them to move on.
About halfway through, Anthony lets the shit hit the fan. Will this be the final push for the devil to win his prize?
“,,,I’ve gone on for so many years without it, and now, at one of my worst times, it seems to be the strongest it has ever been in my life.”
“…faith is a healer. It is during the dark times when we lean on it the most, even though it is just as strong during the good times.”
When The Devil Calls is different from his usual horror stories, though anything with Satan in it is filled with horror. It may even leave you questioning your own choices in life.
Bonus #I – Wasteland Delivery Driver – Wow What a fabulous start. If that’s a sample chapter, I want the book.
Bonus #2 – The Man From The Road- Curiosity creates a nightmare and the blood flows…4 Stars
Bonus #3 – Demon Energy – Sometimes, even when you win, you lose. 4 Stars.
GOODREADS BLURB
What would you do if the devil came calling?
Tom is a ghost hunter and a good one at that. He is a man without morals, without laws, a one man do-it-yourself kind of guy. Then the devil shows up, and Tom finds he is now face to face with pure evil. This sends Tom on a journey that will bring him into contact with all of those he has loved and lost throughout the years. He will reconnect with his ex wives, his kids, and himself. He will explore a side of himself that he never thought existed while the devil tries to regain the soul he is losing. In the end Tom must face down the devil or succumb to a fiery eternal damnation. Win or lose. Tom has no choice but to fight.
Bonus Short Story: The Man from the Road
A man suddenly appears on a road. He’s lost, confused, no clue as to how he got there. He starts to walk and stops suddenly. There’s a bonfire in a field nearby. He sees people dancing around this fire. They are performing some kind of ritual. He turns to flee, but he’s captured. No chance of escape. He hopes he is only dreaming, because all of this seems a bit too real.
Bonus Short Story: Demon Energy
A short story about 1 man possessed and tormented by a 1000 demons who must fight for a soul he is starting to lose. Will he ever find salvation or is his body now an eternal host of hell?
ABOUT ANTHONY RENFRO
Anthony Renfro lives in Apex, North
Carolina. He is a reader, writer, runner, husband, father, and stay at
home dad – one of the toughest jobs anyone could ever do. He was born in
Bristol, Tennessee, and is a graduate of UNC-Greensboro.
You can find him at many spots on the
web, but if you really need to find his center in the social media storm
it would be at his blog.
Now reach out, just beyond the light,
right into that big black space, and let him take your hand on a journey
into cold dark places. You will be scared, and you may even be
terrified, but in the end you might just find you liked the ride.
I can picture the dead cars, the dead bodies, the shuffling zombies and the large zombie busting delivery truck, but I didn’t picture the zombies they ran into when collecting wood to take back to the truck…WHEW, he survived that…AND, even through the gruesome and grisly, I couldn’t help but chuckle, as I met some zombies like none other and we should all be afraid…very afraid.

GOODREADS BLURB
Will they be food for the zombies? This short story is about two men trying to survive an apocalyptic nightmare in a harsh frozen landscape. Hoping to find warmth and shelter. Hoping to ride out the night. Hoping the zombies don’t find them first.
Bonus Short Story: A Haunted House Tale – This short story is about five college students on Halloween night who set out to discover the secrets of the town’s most famous haunted house. Will these students live to see the morning or will this house claim five more victims?
Bonus Short Story: Demon Energy – A short story about 1 man possessed and tormented by a 1000 demons who must fight for a soul he is starting to lose. Will he ever find salvation or is his body now an eternal host of hell?
Anthony Renfro has wonderfully descriptive and creative writing that makes all his stories fun for me. I have read some of his vampire stories and It Sleeps At Dawn answers the question of where Lothar, the vampire, came from. With Anthony at my side, I will definitely take a walk in the woods, and follow the path. Even though I don’t know where it will lead, it is always a pleasure being blindly led through another one of his stories.
3 Stars
GOODREADS BLURB:This short story is about a Vampire who stalks the Appalachian Mountains. A traditional Vampire who uses fangs instead of guns. He hunts. He kills. He sleeps at Dawn.
I love both covers, but this is my favorite. The red pops and nude trees have a creep factor that appeals to me. What do you think? Which cover do you like best?

I am doing Christmas in July this year, so I am sharing a fun review for my 56 this week. I hope you enjoy this wonderful Zombie short story.
It’s a year later and the zombie apocalypse is worse than ever. Will it never end? Do the zombies die out on their own, slowly disintegrating into dust?
Mike Beem is back and he’s shooting, stabbing, decapitating the broken and decomposing zombies to save Donnie and his family. He puts everything on the line to add more survivors to his ‘family’.
The star on top of Mike’s Christmas tree is like a beacon of hope to those lost, seeking shelter from the zombies.
It is Christmas Eve, and come hell or high water, there will be a Christmas.
Mike’s Angels, Double and Trouble, have his back.
Horror, suspense, love and hope abound in this gruesome yet heartwarming story in the brutal world of the zombie apocalypse.
4 Stars
GOODREADS BLURB:A boy lost. A family desperate. It’s Christmas in a Zombie Apocalypse and Mike Beem is once again aiming for another Holiday miracle. His goal this year isn’t toys for the kids in the neighborhood. His goal this time is trying to save one small life so another family doesn’t have to suffer the way he suffered. Can Mike save Christmas once again?

Anthony Renfro’s short story, A Vampire at Christmas, features a hot and sexy vampire.
Talan had been coming home from seeing his fiance, when robbers attacked him and left him for dead. In turn, a vampire took out the robbers and left him with an alternative, immortality or death. He passed out before making the choice, so the vampire made it for him. His blood tasted sweet, while the robbers had tasted salty. MMMM
Ever meet a Parrothead vampire? How about a vampire who’s favorite time of year is Christmas? Do they decorate trees with lots of blinking, sparkling lights? He hung pictures of sunrises around the crypt to remind himself that he was once human. He wears work boots and a Jimmy Buffet concert shirt. He would have played music if he felt no one would hear. His favorite song is Margaritaville.
Discovering Christmas had changed his feeding pattern. Now he chose mostly those who deserved it. And had something special for those he felt worthy.
How would you like to see Talan coming down your chimney?
I love Talan and the humorous/horror writing of Anthony Renfro.
5 Stars
GOODREADS BLURB:Are you a Jimmy Buffett fan? Do you like Vampires? Do you like Christmas? This short story is about a Parrothead Vampire who uses his riches and Vampiric skills to bring joy to those in need during the holiday season.
The zombie tried to take off with Rudolf and he wasn’t going to allow it. It’s the little things that keep us sane and we all have a point in our lives, where enough is enough. A Zombie Christmas is comical and horrible at the same time. Can you picture zombie carolers singing Silent Night and Frosty? In times of trouble, there are those who stand up and give of themselves, expecting nothing in return.
4 Stars
GOODREADS BLURB: In a Zombie Apocalypse, three men risk life and limb to bring happiness to surviving kids on Christmas morning.
I love the cover and as I began reading…OMG…this is so fabulous. Not what I expected. I am horrified and delighted and I don’t believe I will ever look at scarecrows and pumpkins in the same light ever again.
Fear of the Scarecrow was inspired by his Haiku: Fear of the Scarecrow:
GOODREADS BLURB: This short story is about a desperate man hungry for revenge seeking justice. Sometimes justice comes with a price.
ABOUT ANTHONY RENFRO
Anthony lives in Apex, North Carolina. He is a reader, writer, runner, husband, father, and stay at home dad – one of the toughest jobs anyone could ever do. His influence for writing horror is Stephen King.
They picked up their feet and hurried through the thick snow. It was tough going, but fear made their muscles move. The moaning sounds faded into the distance as they moved as quickly as they had moved all day. Bobby could see something looming, growing closer. It was an oasis of safety, a big hulking dark mass.
What they were moving towards was a package delivery truck that looked like an armored vehicle from a Road Warrior movie, parked long ways across the fast and slow lanes. It looked like it’d been barreling through the cars before it came to a sudden and sliding halt. The front had a big spike sticking out of it with at least ten dead zombies hanging from it. Bullet holes to the head of each of them had stopped their moaning and taste for flesh. Zombies, as we all know, won’t stop until you stop them. The doors on either side of the cab had a gigantic spike welded to them with more zombies hanging around, dead, dark holes in the center of their foreheads. There was nothing on the sides of the truck, beyond the doors. It was smooth and flat like it was the day it rolled off the factory line, but dinged and severely scratched, covered in blood, as if this truck had been through a war zone.
They reached the truck and stopped.
Eric motioned to Bobby to stay put, handing the cat carrier to him as he cocked the gun and approached the truck. He tried the cab doors first, but they were both locked. A loud moan erupted from the dark, but this time it wasn’t behind them. It came from somewhere in front of them. It, like the moans behind them, was too close for comfort.
