My Adventures #11 – Shindig in the Sand
Mr F and I, his trusty production assistant, had a gig at The Florabama, on the Florida/Alabama state line.
Summertime is always a great time for a beach party adventure.
We interviewed Billy Currington, the main attraction for Saturday night’s Shindig On The Sand, just hours before the show.
For a taste, have a listen.

My Adventures – Living Life 110%
Living life 110% is our motto.
I invite you to come along on my adventures and I would love to hear about yours.
The weekend was chockful of wonderful things to do, but it wasn’t hard for us to choose what events we wanted to attend. The beach is one of our favorite places to go. People watching is a fun past-time and there are always some interesting characters wandering around. But this weekend had some added bonuses, like the Corvette Car Show and A Taste of Pensacola with Andrew Zimmer.
I jumped at the chance to see all these speed machines at the Corvette show. I am a lover of muscle cars and it seemed like every Corvette – from vintage to current – was in attendance. The roar of the engines vibrated through the air, making me want to jump in one and go for a joy ride.
ย A Taste of Pensacola with Andrew Zimmer took place at the Pensacola Beach pavilion. I waited for him to wade into the Gulf and come out with some kind of freaky food, but he stayed with a traditional Gulf staple – Shrimp.
Andrew Zimmer did some stirring and a little sampling along the way. We visited the Hooter girls and had a couple of Bloody Marys to quench our thirst.
Just look at those beautiful shrimps. Makes your mouth water, doesn’t it?
The presentation was appetizing and corn bread is a southern mainstay not to be missed. Andrew Zimmer was very entertaining and hospitable, taking time for a meet and greet after the show.
On to Captain Fun’s for the Alabama football game. Captain Fun’s is the place to go on the Boardwalk to get your football fix with some diehard Crimson Tide fans. Alabama did not let us down. The game was a roller coaster ride of emotions, keeping us watching until the final whistle was blown.
Number 1 Alabama still rules and The Tide beat Texas A & M – 49 to 42.
We topped off the day with the The Romantics Concert at the Blues Angel Music School, celebrating 130 years of Gretsch guitars.
What did you do this weekend?

The Mullet Are Flying At The Redneck Riviera for the Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party
The 29th annual Mullet Toss is held the last full weekend of April and this year was as great a party as ever. If you are not familiar with this athletic competition, let me tell you about it.
WHAT IS THE FLORABAMA MULLET TOSS?
A bunch of rednecks were looking for a reason to have a party and thought, what the heck, we got all this here fish, so let’s say we throw them from Alabama across the state line to Florida. Oh, let’s invite all our friends, and their friends, and their friends………………….. Hey ya’ll, we’ll probably get hungry and thirsty, so we need lots of food and plenty to drink. Thus, The Mullet Toss was born.
WHAT IS A MULLET?
A mullet is an indigenous fish to our area. There are tons of them and they are considered a delicacy here. On the east coast they are considered a trash fish used for bait. It is also the only fish with a gizzard and is said to have mystical powers. So beware and treat the fish with respect.
WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR COMPETING?
Wear as little as possible, so it does not hinder your toss.
The cost is $15, but heck you get a T-shirt.
You choose your mullet from the bucket, no sand and bare-naked, I mean bare-handed.
You must throw from within a ten foot circle and end up in the circle after your throw.
The Green Man made an appearance, demonstrating the correct way to throw your fish.
Chocolate Brown shows how to retrieve your fish.
You must retrieve your fish. If you feel the need to pose for your fans, by all means, do so.

.
For photographic instruction, please study the collage.
No harm is done to the fish, because they are dead. Besides tossing them, the mullet have other duties to perform. For each fish thrown, a portion of the proceeds go to local youth charities.
But, rednecks do not waste anything, so the birds are invited to the party.
Other events are The Flora-Bamaยฎ Mullet Man Triathlon and the Flora-Bamaยฎ Mullet Swing Golf Classic. There are daily bikini contests, culminating in the Ms. Flora-Bamaยฎ Bikini competition. There are more competitions, some of them created by the partiers themselves. Bands play all day and night, everywhere throughout the Florabama. Tons of great food just waiting to be eaten. Be sure and get your oysters and crawfish.
These are a collection of my wonderfully tacky trophies that are on display in the main bathroom for your viewing pleasure. I’m sure you won’t miss that tour when you are visitingย Chez Fundin.
To see the individual trophies up close and personal, click HERE.
For more information, photos and to plan your trip to the Redneck Riviera………..go to Florabama and check it out. It will be worth your while and good for some chuckles.

Giveaway-Guest Post-Review of The Beach by Jaye Frances
I just want to take a moment to thank Jaye Frances for coming by to share her book, The Beach, with us. Take it away, Jaye.
Guest Post
My Review
Alan loved the beach (his beach), but when summer came, the tourists came with it. He thought the beach belonged to him and hated having to share it.
As he walked, he turned to look back at his bungalow. He had worked hard to be able to buy this slice of Heaven. He preferred his own company and talked to the ocean as if it was a trusted friend.
He had reached the granite rock outcrop, which continually amazed him. He would walk the beach until he reached the rock, then look over his domain. A storm was approaching and he didn’t have time to make it back to the bungalow, so he hid behind his the rock, seeking protection from the wind.
When the water swirled around his feet, something bumped his leg. He held the object and asked the air around him, “How much longer is this going to last?”, and the storm abated. He thought nothing of it.
As he examined the object, he thought it was a prism, because of the beautiful lights reflecting from it. He couldn’t see how to open it, so he grabbed a hammer and nail and struck it. He was stunned with the result.
A man spoke from behind him. He dropped the “bottle” and turned.
Alan’s adventure began.
ย ย ย 4 STARS – Would Highly Recommend To Others
The moral of the story, be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
I was first drawn to the book because of the gorgeous cover. I love the beach, sand and water, so I will stop and browse whenever I see a cover with them on it.
The writing makes this an easy read, with the story flowing smoothly as the plot unravels.
I felt for the guy, because I love the beach and hate sharing it too. But, who died and made him God?
The ending was so creepy, it sent chills running up and down my spine and the hairs on the back of my neck tingling, but I smiled too. lol When you read it, you will know, that in itself could be considered creepy.
Could you imagine wading on the oceans edge and looking down, only to see……………
There is a bonus novella at the end of the book. What price are you willing to pay, in exchange for having all your heart desires right now?
I received this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
