Giveaway – Wolf Defender by M Guida @RoxanneRhoads

This is a special Christmas story because it’s going on during the supernatural war.

The Unseelie and the evil wolf king, Calvin Wolfe, have been creating havoc among the wolves and their allies. In this story, it’s a forbidden romance and friends-to-lover story.

A dragon shifter has always had a crush on a wolf shifter. She’s been in love with them since they went to Legacy Academy, but he was a prince and she was a daughter of a traitor.

Supernaturals are only supposed to be with their own kind, and this is Christmas.

Christmas is a time for miracles when even a dragon’s dream can come true.

Book Description:

I’ve been carrying a torch for a wolf defender, but he’s never looked my way. Why would he? I am a dragon and the daughter of an accused traitor.

When we get news of mystery and intrigue in the corrupt Timber Kingdom of the wolves, he wants to go there to avenge the death of his fated mate. I’m sure this is the key to proving my dad’s innocence.

If I can convince him to band together we both might get what we want, including a chance at love. But neither of us know who to trust when demons and wolves have joined forces to bring the dark Unseelie to our realm.

My heart was heavy with disappointment. I was no closer to finding my dad and proving that he wasn’t a traitor than I had been six months ago. Every lead had turned into a dead end, and based on some rumors I had heard, I had a feeling time was running out for him.

My sister and my mom had died several years ago. He was my only family and I missed him so much. Sometimes I couldn’t even breathe when I thought about it. This was one of those times.

Snow was falling in the Colorado Rocky Mountains and dusk had fallen early. Icicles were forming on the tips of my wings and the end of my tail. I was too tired and too miserable to keep going and landed in a small meadow. I dropped my bag in which I had packed a change of clothes, a journal, and my longbow and arrows.

It was too cold to shift back into human form, so I curled up into a ball and rested my head on my talons. Tears froze on my cheeks, but I didn’t care.

Damn Cormac, King of the Unseelie.

This was all his fault. He knew where my dad was, but stubbornly refused to tell me. After losing the battle against the Defenders and our allies, he said my dad was hidden somewhere that I could never find him–and so far, the bastard had been right.

I wasn’t sure where else to go. What else to do.

Exhaustion washed over my tired muscles and breaking heart. I closed my eyes and sighed, letting the quietness of the forest and the falling snow lull me to sleep…

Eco Thriller Dragon Gold by Kristie Clark #KristieClark

.

Who doesn’t love a treasure hunt and the dragon that protects it?

Dragon Gold (Order of the Dolphin, #2)

Amazon / Goodreads

MY REVIEW

The Order of the Dolphin series by Kristie Clark keeps getting better in Dragon Gold. I do recommend reading them in order, beginning with Killing Dragons, but Kristie Clark includes all the updates if you were inclined to read it as a stand alone.

Eva is in charge of dolphin research at the Roatan Institute for Marine Science in Honduras. She talks to dolphins and has been creating a vocabulary to enable them to communicate.

Thomas is head of the Sternberg Center for Cancer Cures in Kansas city, Kansas, creating innovative gene therapy. On his last trip to Roatan, his lab tech, Ivan, had found an enzyme in the toxic red tide. Thomas and Eva are both passionate about their work. but how can they have a relationship with so much distance between them.

I love anything to do with water, so to dive with the dolphins, hunt with them for lionfish, and learn of the world underneath, even in a fictional way, is very interesting and entertaining to me.

Action and danger enter the story and Eva’s life early on. She has friends that will come to her aid in Julian’s deadly game. All the characters play pivotal roles, even if they are not the stars.

An extreme sense of urgency lingers on the pages, and I feel it almost as much as Eva, but she must keep her cool, make a plan…and wait for Thomas. He was a Navy Seal working with dolphins, and she can use all the help she can get.

Kristie Clark’s blend of fact and fiction brings her world to life, making me want to jump in with both feet. She explains her research and facts at the end of each novel and I love it. Getting lost in her tropical paradise gave me many hours of reading enjoyment.

The first book, Killing Dragons, took Kristie Clark ten years to write, but like the pacing of Dragon Gold, she wrote this one in a month. Guess these characters had a lot to say to her.

There is so much between the cover of Dragon Gold…a touch of ecology, giving back to the world that gives us life, cancer research, Naval bits and pieces, fish farming, genetic engineering, kidnapping and murder, and Kristie Clark ties it all together in an amazeballs package.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Dragon Gold by Kristie Clark.

GOODREADS BLURB

A dragon will kill any who dare to take its gold.

After her dangerous adventures earlier in the year, everything is finally going well for Dr. Eva Paz. Her breakthroughs in dolphin communication are changing the world. Her discoveries could save the reef she loves. And now her mother has found love again.

But then a madman returns to claim what’s his. Eva’s old nemesis, Julian Gulliver, kidnaps Eva’s mother, and he demands an exorbitant ransom.

It’s money Eva doesn’t have.

What she does have are friends who are willing to do anything to help, including ex-Navy SEAL—and ex-boyfriend—Dr. Thomas Sternberg. But Eva’s greatest asset may be her dolphins: Taffy, Finn, Cleo, and Chico.

Together, they need to mount a rescue effort. Yet things are even more desperate than they imagine, for Julian isn’t the only menace terrorizing Roatan.

Join Eva as she works with Thomas and her dolphins to rescue her mother and save the reef from a man who would destroy them all.

For fans of Michael Crichton, Dragon Gold is book two in Kristie Clark’s Order of the Dolphin Series.

Unicorns and Magic ~ Fallenwood by Leslie D Soule

NBTM_TourBanner_Fallenwood

As soon as I saw the cover, I knew I had to share this.

I LOVE UNICORNS!

Fallenwood Cover Love!

Leslie D. Soule

So the brilliant artist who created the Fallenwood cover, with the black unicorn Shadowmere on it, which I love, is artist Stephanie Flint. She’s the same artist who designed the cover for Forgetting Fallenwood, which is book 2 in the series. For the cover on book 2, we see Ash, who has returned to the real world and is trying to live a normal life. She’s got a state job and she’s all dressed up. She’s holding her mocha and keeping her head up and trying to walk a very different path than the one she was on in Fallenwood. This makes the contrast so stark when she eventually gives up this life to return to Fallenwood in order to figure out what’s happened there and how she lost her memories.

As for the covers, all I did was make a suggestion content-wise and Stephanie did the rest – coming up with these absolutely beautiful covers and I don’t even know how she did it, but I give her major kudos for it. She’s managed to take subject matter that could essentially be very bland and straightforward, like the image of Ash standing there with the coffee cup in her hand, and give it a magical, ethereal quality. Same with the image on the cover of Fallenwood, where the unicorn has a turned-away stance that adds to the feeling of magic to be felt there.

So there it is! I’m so fortunate to have had the opportunity to have such a great cover artist do these covers for Fallenwood. I’m honored, really. What a great experience.

I love learning about the covers for books and am so happy you were here today, Leslie, to tell us about yours. Thanks so much for sharing and I wish you many downloads! 🙂

Isn’t this cover a beaut?

Fallenwood – where your dreams and nightmares are only a portal away…

Fallenwood—a land where magic is the life force, dragons are sages, and wizards good and evil battle for supremacy. When 23-year-old Ash is thrust into the middle of Fallenwood’s power struggles, she is also forced to face her own inner battles. Life on Earth was hard enough on Ash, who is locked in grief for her stepfather. Now, the fate of Fallenwood rests on her shoulders. She must destroy the Great Crystal—the catalyst for all the land’s magic. As the kingdoms prepare for war, Ash must look inside to find the power to save the world, and herself.

EXCERPT

“Now then, I’ll explain the meaning of the unicorn and the crown.” Ash continued munching on wontons as she listened.

“In Fallenwood, there is a black unicorn—the only one of its kind. It was the horse of the Great King Palomides Hyperion back in the Golden Age of Fallenwood. It grazes in a field called The Field of Death that stands between two rivers. It is so named because if anyone tries to capture the black unicorn, it will run them through with its horn, whether the person uses magic or not. But what’s important is that the unicorn has become a symbol of freedom and power.

“People fight for symbols. They go to war for them. They die for them, and devote their lives to the search for them and any number of things. The black unicorn was bred of a black warhorse stallion and a unicorn mare, and it has a name that I will not repeat here. If any of the six kingdoms of Fallenwood were to get their hands on the black unicorn, it would give that kingdom legitimacy over all others.

“So even today, there are people who stand at the edges of the rivers and watch the unfortunate individuals who have been sent by their respective kingdoms to embark on what is essentially a suicide mission. People have tried nets, magic barriers, teaming up on the unicorn, all to no avail. Every person who has tried to catch the black unicorn has been gored to death. The black unicorn symbolizes a power that will not be dominated.

“We are all caught up in the struggle between the unicorn and the crown. You’ll learn all you need to know about the philosophy of the crown when we arrive at Castle Evendown.”

Dragon’s Pearl –

Book Four of Sheryl Locke Holmes Mystery Series

by C.L. Exline

BLURB:

Pearls fell like raindrops from the sky while the dragons fought. Silvery fingers of mist cast eerie shadows upon the ocean waves as the struggle raged overhead. Three beings watched the battle, until they noticed blood on the full moon.  Someone would die. They clasped hands and chanted.

Blood on the moon signifies death for some unlucky victim, and someone is gunning for Sheryl. Now, Sheryl and her cohorts must solve the mystery of the haunted music box and a ghost before the killer gets his prey.

EXCERPT

. When Sheryl’s best friend insists there is a ghost haunting Bridgeside, her soon to be open Bed & Breakfast, Sheryl decides to spend the night to prove Amber wrong.

In no time, Sheryl was snuggled under the covers. The bed felt wonderful, the house was quiet, and  soon she dreamed of dragons. The tinny sound of music woke her. Sheryl sat up and rubbed her eyes. The music box was open and it was playing. She closed the lid, went to the doorway, and stepped into the hall. Humming reached her from downstairs. Sheryl hurried to the stairs and saw a woman wearing a flowing gray ruffly dress walking across the foyer, past the staircase, and toward the blue room.

“Brian! Brian! Wake up!” Keeping her hand firm on the banister and her eyes glued on the woman, Sheryl hurried down the steps. “Brian!” With both hands on the sides of the doorway, she leaned in and called out, “Brian!”

He bolted up. His arms and legs were entangled in the blankets. He struggled to get free and fell to the floor.

“Get up, Brian. She’s in here.” Sheryl glanced around but saw no one and flipped on the top light for a better look.

Amber’s screams cut through Sheryl like a knife. She whirled around and raced up the steps. An unconscious Amber lay on the floor. “Brian! Hurry!” Sheryl knelt down and patted Amber’s face. “Wake up, Amber.”

The sound of screechy music caught Sheryl’s attention. The music box. Torn between wanting to investigate and knowing she should remain, she yelled, “Brian!”

Heavy footsteps heralded Brian’s arrival. “I’m here. What is it?”

“Watch Amber.” Sheryl jumped to her feet and hurried into the red bedroom. The lid she’d shut moments earlier was open. The gold cylinder churned out a chilling tune. She glanced around the empty room before closing the lid. She’d barely reached the doorway when the lid flipped open and once more the music played. Her breath caught. She stared at the music box.

Blog Tour – The Dragon Empire by Heather McCorkle

Today we’re celebrating the release of Heather McCorkle’s fantasy novel, The Dragon Empire! For today’s stop Heather is answering the following question:

Are the dragons in your book shapeshifter?

Heather: No. While they can take other forms it is only with the use of magic, only temporary, and not all of them can do it. I figured there are enough great shapeshifter stories out there and not enough stories about just dragons, so my dragons are ‘all’ dragon. 🙂

B&N / Amazon / Goodreads

Here is a bit about it:

On Yacrana dragons are the advanced species. But advanced doesn’t always mean civilized…

There’s trouble in the Dragon Empire, the kind that could start a war between dragons and the races of people. Hidden factions of dragons believe they should rule the lesser races, not simply stand aside and allow them to develop as they will. Having lived so long in peace, the Emperors turn a blind eye, many oblivious that such attitudes even exist.

Despite being only an architect class, emerald dragon, Grendar is willing to risk banishment and death to stop that which his rulers refuse to see. The hope of peace lies not within the scaled breast of a dragon however, but within the hands of a group of people. But if the hidden factions have their way, these people won’t live to fulfill such a destiny. With a reluctant seer at his side, Grendar must leave his precious Empire for the outside world to save those that will one day save his kind.

While The Dragon Empire is for ages young adult and up, it does contain mild violence and some difficult subject matter.

Why not hop on over to HEATHER’S blog and see what’s shaking?

LIZARD DEATH MATCH

Welcome everyone. I have been waiting for something really good to be my first post. My sister and I were hanging out by the pool and just happened to see these two lizards, wondering if they were going to fight or make love. All of a sudden they turned into dragons and the battle began.

I am just finishing up a couple of awesome, five star books that I will be reviewing in the near future. I hope you will stop by again to see my blog as it grows and develops.
