Lizzie had been drinking when she saw her boyfriend, Michael, with someone else in the bar. She ran out and jumped in her car, even though she knew she shouldn’t be driving. She was tipsy and crying, barely able to see where she was going. She usually slowed down when she approached that certain area of the road, because of the fog, but not tonight. She just wanted to get home.

Then she heard thump-thump. Oh no. She checked her tires and saw blood on the front of her car. Great, she had hit an animal, but it was so much worse than that – a man. She panicked, what to do. She proceeded to drag him off the road and into the woods. Afterwards, she jumped in her car and drove home.

Once she got home, she even acted like a murderer. She changed her clothes and cleaned up, hiding any evidence of the accident. She saw a bloody hand print smeared on the wall and cleaned that up too. All the while, a feeling of impending doom hung over her.

Her friend, Haley, called to make sure she arrived home okay. As they talked, Lizzie reached for her necklace. It was her good luck charm and she was always reaching for it, but now it was missing. Where could she have lost it?

At work, she waited on a man wearing a ball cap. Strange things happened. She saw spiders crawling all over him. When she questioned him about what he said to her, he denied saying the things she knew she had heard him say,

can’t hide it, haunt you until you die“.

Was she hallucinating?

She headed home and forgot to detour around the accident site. She had been avoiding the area ever since “it” had happened. As she approached the spot, she saw him.

Was he haunting her? Was her mind playing tricks on her? She knew something was very wrong.

When Lizzie went to work the next night, Haley told her about the little girl who had been found in the woods near her house. She wondered about the man. Had he been found?

Michael, her boyfriend, had heard about the little girl, too, and became worried for Lizzie. He went to her workplace, the Tavern, and arranged to go home with her. She felt a sense of relief having him there, she wouldn’t be alone and afraid.

Michael woke her from a nightmare she was having. The little girl was dead and  warned her that the man was coming for her. It had felt so real to her. She wondered if it would ever be over.

In the morning, Michael became afraid, because it was so hard to wake her up. When he saw the marks around her neck he worried that he had choked her during their passionate lovemaking. She knew it wasn’t him. Her nightmare had come to life. Should she tell him?

Michael had to go out of town for work, so she was alone again. She told him she would be fine, but she didn’t really believe it.

She loved paranormal and horror movies, but she didn’t believe in it. Until now. Now, she felt she was living it.

5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)

The cover is awesome. Eerie and foreboding. The spooky moon is indicative of what is to come.

The plot was suspenseful and grabbed me from the very beginning. Tara’s description of Lizzie’s nightmare was so realistic, it was believable. It could have been real. I knew something was coming, but what. My anticipation was such, that I was sitting forward on the couch, crunched up, waiting for the attack, or whatever was coming. It wouldn’t be good. The hair on my arms stood up and I felt chills running down my back.

I hate spiders, so when I read this, I had to make a note of it:

“Spiders are messengers from the other side. When you see a lot of spiders it means something or someone on the other side is trying to tell you something and you’re not listening.”

When I first picked up the book, I thought – this is good, like a three. As I kept reading and the suspense and pace of the novel picked up, I thought – whoa, this is a solid four. Then I began racing through the pages as one thing after another began to happen. I read it in one sitting. The plot and writing were gripping and drew me deeper and deeper into the story.

This is Tara Neideffer’s debut novel. I am constantly amazed at the quality of writing of so many indie authors and their debut novels.

Lizzie’s story could happen to anyone, except maybe for the ghost part. A normal, upright, careful person makes one mistake that could ruin their life.

Michael was a two-timing cheater. Would Lizzie be able to forgive him for his mistake? Will they find their way back to each other?

The book made me think of Ghost Whisperer with Jessica Love Hewitt. Ghosts came to her for help and she was able to talk to them and see them, when others couldn’t.

Tara Neideffer offered me a free copy in return for an honest and unbiased review, but when I checked my Kindle, I had already downloaded the book.

Giveaway and Review

of

lancaster house by taylor dean

Lancaster House

Zoe was in Serenity Hills because she had tried to kill herself. She was also accused of killing two men. Dr. Channing had taken over her care and was weaning her from the heavy medications she had been on since her admittance.  When he told her there was  no such thing as ghosts, she told him they had nothing to talk about. He asked her to tell him about Lancaster House. He didn’t think she would answer, but she slowly began to tell him how she fell in love with the house and why she was so desperate to return to it.

The realtor explained about the old Victorian home. It needed a lot of work. She tried to discourage Zoe from going in, let alone buying it, but Zoe could feel the house calling to her. For the second time she thought she saw someone in the window. She laughed with delight at the unexpected finds and oddities of the house. She was intrigued by its idiosyncrasies, the hidden rooms and secret passageways. She loved it. The real estate agent, Barbara, called the builder, Andre Lancaster, peculiar, but Zoe thought him amazing.

The neighbor lady, Mrs Pearson, had come in with them and, while Barbara was busy on the phone, she told Zoe the story of the house. The builder’s wife and a vagrant were found dead in the house. The husband was never found. Everyone thought the house was haunted. But that wasn’t going to stop Zoe.

After making the place livable, her first project was the banister. She worked late into the night, and even though she wanted to finish it, she quit with ten rails to go. In the morning she found it was done. She thought she must have been high from the fumes and turned her mind to the next project.

Halloween Small GhostWhen she arose the next morning, the piece of wallpaper she had deliberately left unhung, was put up. Also, during the night a blanket had been placed over her. Did she have an uninvited quest living with her? As she thought about it, all the acts were helpful and caring towards her, so she wasn’t afraid, was she?

Still… She went to the courthouse and got the original blue prints. She found the builder had intentionally created an illusion on the outside of the house to hide the additional room. She tore through the wall and found the wife’s bedroom and knew she had been murdered  there. But the room was covered in dust and no one could have been in there for a long time. So where was her elusive guest staying?

That night someone broke in and attacked her. Zoe was surprised when another man came to her rescue.

He was shocked that she could see him and speak to him. It wasn’t long before she was wanting more than his help with the house. She wanted him. She wanted to see him, speak to him, be held by him.

Where in the house did he Live? Why can’t he leave? He had told her his name was Andre, but she had never done her research on the house, so the name held no meaning for her.

She questioned if he really existed, but she felt his presence. He was physical, because she saw him, talked to him, touched him, loved him. She couldn’t be imagining him, could she?

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos     4 – Would Highly Recommend To Others

This was definitely a different twist on a vampire (?), ghost (?) or madwoman (?) story. I got about halfway through and thought WT. Never saw that coming. Now I get it, or do I?

A psychological thriller that will keep you guessing. The minute you think you have the answer, you better think again.

The plot had me guessing if HE was real or not, but I’m a reader, not Zoe, so it is totally feasible to me. The book was well written and I liked that it took a twist here and there. Not your typical vampire or ghost story. Or even that of a locked up mad woman. As soon as  I thought I had it figured out, something else would happen and I would be wondering, what now? Definitely messed with my mind, had my head spinning. And still does.

What would you do if you had an uninvited guest in your house? Would you believe it was supernatural or would you think your mind was playing tricks on you? Even though you felt him, touched him, kissed him, would you be able to hold to your belief while everyone is telling you that you are wrong? That is Zoe’s situation.

Zoe was confident in her knowledge of Andre, no matter what anyone else tried to tell her. All she cared about was being with Andre. He tried to make her see they couldn’t have a relationship, that they lived in different worlds – his was supernatural and she couldn’t join him there, or could she?

I felt the doctor was arrogant and controlling, and I really didn’t like him. He became obsessed with Zoe and lost his perspective. Maybe he’s the one who needs help. lol

Shortly into the book, I thought, this will be a three. It quickly turned into a four, for the simple reason I began to read faster and faster. I had to know what was going to happen next. The writing was captivating and took me deeper into the story as it built to its suspenseful ending.

The end will take you away. Just hope you don’t end up in Serenity Hills with Zoe.

I received this book in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Review of The Medium by C. J. Archer

The Medium by C. J.  Archer

The Medium (Book 1)

The séance had turned almost comical.

Celia and I were having a séance for Mrs. Wiggam. Her husband appeared, as angry and unforgiving as his wife. She wanted to know where the fortune was hidden. I knew he was lying when he said there was no fortune and so did she.

Mr. Wiggam was in the Waiting Area and I knew he couldn’t move on, until he lost all his anger. Even in death he was still afraid of his wife.  While I tried to get him to return to the Waiting Area, something sinister came through.

Others saw it. Mrs. Wiggam convinced them they were seeing things. I hoped they believed her. Otherwise, it could be bad for our reputation.

Celia had bought an amulet from an old crone of a peddler. She had been used to release the spirit. We arrived at our front door, only to be met by Jacob Beaufort, a ghost. He told us he was assigned to us by the Administrators. They controlled the Waiting Area and Otherworld, making things run smoothly in the ghostly realm. He said we had brought forth a shape-shifting demon. The amulet had been cursed, thus allowing the demon through. I told Jacob it was me to cover for Celia, but he said the demon was linked to whoever wore the amulet. He would have to banish it.

Jacob seemed more real, more solid than the usual ghosts I saw. I felt drawn to him.  He said there were few like him.

paw Pictures, Images and PhotosWe were off to visit George Culvert, a demonologist. Jacob told me they had both went to Eton, but he neglected to tell me they had never met. I reached for the door knocker and noticed it was shaped like a paw.  When I told him I was interested in shape-shifting demons, he said he had a book that would have explained what I needed to know, but it had been stolen a week ago. He told me the shape-shifter could steal a ghost’s soul, make it cease to exist anywhere, be nothing.

Mrs Culver entered the library. She was mean tempered, until I told her I knew Jacob. She said he died under mysterious circumstance. I found out Jacob was nobility. He had told me he died at 18, just a few months ago.

All George could tell me about Jacob was he simply vanished. Nothing of him was ever found. When I tried to question George’s maid, Maree Finch, about the book, she turned violent, coming at me with a knife. Jacob pushed me out of the way. I knew she stole the book for someone, but she had run away before I could ask her anything more.

Jacob popped into my bedroom. He said it wasn’t proper at all. So why was he here? Hepaw Pictures, Images and Photos told me there had been a death. It was the second one. He thought the deaths were connected, because the house the footman had worked at was burgled after the murder.

To keep him here, I asked if my mother was in the Waiting Room. He said no, but Aunt Catherine Sloane was. I had so many questions about how I came to be, so I called out to her and she appeared. She was an evil, mean-spirited woman. She was right when she said  I didn’t want to hear anything she had to say.

As far as I knew I was the only legitimate medium in the world. So it fell on my shoulders to help Jacob get rid of the shape-shifter before it could kill anyone else.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos     3 STARS – Would Recommend To Others

I loved the clouds and reflection in the water on the cover. It created a sense of tension. The  woman takes you into a time in the past. The title is what really captured me, because I thought it would lead to the paranormal, and it did.

There were no surprises in the book. It was well written and the story was told in an almost fun and light manner. There were times where I had to laugh, like when she wondered if, even though he was a ghost, his man parts worked the same. lol

The characters were easy to relate to. I wished for Emily and Jacob to get together. But, how can a human hook up with a ghost? Is there a reason for him to be different from other ghosts that Emily could see?

I received this book in return for an honest and unbiased review.
