Entrepreneur, first-generation American, writer, and mother to four children, María strives to bring passion and enthusiasm to all her endeavors. A lover of all things European, María has found great passion through her travels to Paris, Italy, Spain, and South America. Her affection for winemaking, foreign languages, the arts, ballroom dancing, and traveling has given María a unique and grateful perspective on life. María Castellucci Moore earned her bachelor of arts degree in finance from Dominican University on a tennis scholarship, and later pursued studying at New York University and the London School of Economics with a focus on global affairs. In 2016, with her siblings, María founded Castellucci Napa Family, a luxury wine and real estate brand. María runs her wine label and a family real estate development company in the greater Bay Area. She is a board member of the San Francisco Opera Guild and is enthusiastic about building opportunity and community through the arts.

    MY REVIEW

    Michele Monaco and illustrator, Prabir Sharkar have created an entertaining fantasy of magical reindeers visiting three young girls, wanting them to be pen pals. The illustrations for the oversized book are colorful and fun, on heavy, slick pages for the youngsters to touch. The story may encourage the young to pick up pencil and paper and write to..anyone. There are a list of questions at then end for the kiddies to ask their favorite reindeer, Santa, or any pen pal they choose. I love books that encourage children to communicate in any form and stretch their imagination. Sure to entertain the child hiding in all of us.

    MY REVIEW

    The thick, shiny pages of For Kinder Times by Pam Gittleman calls out to the children to be touched. Each rhyming fairy tale has been tweaked and includes the three kind mice, with questions and emoticons at the end of them. I love interactive books that ask the child to participate, making them feel as if they are part of the story. The Kinder Times shows how easy it is to be kind to others, no matter where you are.

    Meet the Author:

    Alan Hilfiker has three children and nine grandchildren. He has spent a lifetime creating all sorts of stories and poems. Early on, he was inspired by Watty Piper’s The Little Engine That Could and Holling Clancy Holling’s Paddle-to-the-Sea. Later, by his English courses at University of Rochester.     MY REVIEW

    I remember the days of snail mail. Do you? When I would go to the store, sorting through the different stationery, choosing the perfect one. Friends Forever by Julie Thiesssen includes a few pages of Pen Pal Gals stationery at the end of the book.

    Summer vacation and Reese is on her way to Lake Shore Retreat with her family. As she packs, I remember packing for vacation myself. But, we sure were packing much different things.

    Reese’s mom noticed that something was bothering Reese and asked her about it. She was hesitant, then shared, “…wish I had a friend to share it all with”. Sometimes wishes come true and just because the adventure ends…for now,,…that doesn’t mean the friendship developed won’t continue. They can be PEN PAL GALS.

    Julie’s daughter, Reese, was the inspiration for Pen Pal Gals, because she loved writing letters to family and friends. Shows how much we can learn from the children around us.

    I love this. I know how much I look forward to a package to arrive, so to anticipate a letter from a best friend, a family member from far away, a Christmas card, a Birthday card…there will always be a place in the world for snail mail.

    I have seen two different age groups for the Pen Pal Gals book 6 – 8 and 8 -12, so you decide. As for me, I am glad I got a chance to read it and plan to share it with my nieces, so I think Friends Forever will get lots of love.
