Teaser Tuesday #97 – The Last Deception by D V Berkom @dvberkom
.
Welcome to Teaser Tuesday hosted by The Purple Booker, the weekly Meme that wants you to add books to your TBR, or just share what you are currently reading. It is very easy to play along:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers! Everyone loves Teaser Tuesday.
~~~~~~
I have read a lot of DV Berkom’s novels and enjoyed everyone tremendously. If you are looking for an author to follow, I recommend her. She has strong female characters that manage to get into some thrilling situations.
The Last Deception is D V Berkom’s sixth novel in the Leine Basso series. They can all stand alone, but I have loved each and every one, so I recommend starting at the beginning.
Goodreads / Amazon US / Amazon UK / Amazon CA
MY TEASE
“How would they know it their patient was my son? This letter states he was on a clandestine operation.If true, he would not have carried identification.If he had, then the bombing would have wiped out any credentials.”
(page 69 in paperback published in 2017)
GOODREADS BLURB
Lies. Deception. A nation on the brink of war…
Just when former assassin Leine Basso thinks she’s free from the business of murder and deception, a desperate call from a friend drags her back into the dark world of espionage and arms dealers.
Leine uncovers information that implicates a well-known Russian businessman in a horrendous deception that affects national security and could have global repercussions. It’s up to the former assassin to persuade the powers that be to ignore the obvious and trust her, or disregard the information and bring the world to the brink of a devastating war. Can she make it in time to warn them before The Last Deception?
Hello fellow bloggers. I don’t know about you, but I have been spending a lot of time outside, enjoying our fabulous weather. We did have a couple of days of ozone alerts and boy could I tell it when I tried to work outside.
I enjoy outdoor chores much more than the ones I have to do inside. There are birds singing and splashing in the birdbath. After chores, comes a dip in the pool. Oh, yeah!
I have been adding books to my Kindle, as if I need any more, but I cannot resist.
Friday 56 #131 – A Wildcatter’s Trek by Gene Ames Jr #GeneAmesJr
.
The Friday 56 is hosted by Freda’s Voice.The only rules are to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your ereader and find any sentence or a few ( no spoilers) that grabs you and post it.
A Wildcatter’s Trek by Gene Ames Jr reads like a true story, told by a real oilman.
Think you know about the oil business, think again.
If you are a fan of the TV series, Dallas, A Wildcatter’s Trek by Gene Ames Jr will fill in some of the blanks and show how much oil people really contribute to technology, education, the arts…
You can see my review HERE.
My 56
“And I want a home – a big home. Now. I’m not waiting any longer. I can’t stand this garage apartment. We’ve visited your oil field friends in their new stone mansions with huge lawns and gardens and white board fences that run around their property for miles. If you won’t build me a mansion, I’m going back to Oklahoma.”
( page 56, in paperback,1st edition, published in 2016)
Book Beginnings
THAT’S ONE ANGRY river, Jordan Phillips thought, standing in front of his truck loaded with oil well casing, looking across what seemed like a half a mile of fast moving, rolling brown water to the other side of the Sabine.
GOODREADS BLURB: A Wildcatter’s Trek: Love, Money and Oil tells the harrowing tale of Jordan Phillips, a young pipe salesman who risks everything to drill for oil in East Texas and discovers the largest oil field in the world by accident. The breathtaking core of A Wildcatter’s Trek: Love, Money and Oil is fully exposed as Jordan Phillips is unwittingly thrust into the brutal, never-ending race of the oil wildcatter. Fraud, greed and danger abound. Will Jordan survive?
I love mermaids and Born of Water by A L Knorr is a refreshing and novel glimpse into their life, both in and out of the sea.
I picked this up on a free day, so be sure and check for the “0”.
MY TEASE
‘”You’re playing with fire, Antoni. You think You’re in control here?…”
(48% on Kindle)
GOODREADS BLURB: Everything you thought you knew about mermaids is wrong.
Life for a small-town high school kid in Saltford should be simple and straightforward – for 17-year-old Targa MacAuley, it’s anything but. Navigating life with a supernatural mother is tricky enough, but dealing with the feelings of guilt that she’s never been able to ‘change’, and confusion that she doesn’t seem to be attracted to boys (or girls for that matter), Targa feels like she’s got more demons than the average kid.
When the opportunity to salvage a mysterious wreck in the Baltic arises for her mom, a professional salvage diver by day, Targa jumps at the chance to go abroad for the summer. But it’s when she meets Antoni Baranek, and a boating accident puts them both in danger, that Targa’s world turns completely inside out in more ways than one.
Hello fellow bloggers.
I don’t know about you, but my week has been about The Masters Golf Tournament and working outside in this gorgeous weather we are now having.
Mr Wonderful and I play golf whenever we get the chance and we always play The Masters lottery. We were fortunate to win tickets to the 2006 Masters for Sunday, but we sold them for tickets to the Par 3 contest and the balance payed for our trip from Rochester, New York to Augusta, Georgia. Ya can’t beat that.
I want to start off with my favorite player…Freddie Couples. He is making an appearance and in the running at 57 years old…and he still looks fabulous to me.
I am sad to say one of the players I followed for years made an appearance, but did not play. I believe Tiger Woods could have been the best player of all time, but golf takes its toll on the human body and the players can play a heavy price.
After The Master’s Tournament, there will be a three part series about one of the most famous players in the game of golf, Jack Nicklaus. It was great to see him and Gary Player tee up to open the tournament this year and Arnold Palmer will be sadly missed.
There is one hole…I can’t remember what number it is, where the players line up and try to skim their balls across the pond.
I love the Par 3 Tournament, because the players are relaxed and happy to play to the crowd.
Unfortunately, the weather did not help the azaleas this year, but in 2006 they were out in all their glory.
Hope you have a wonderful week!
Hello fellow bloggers.
I had a great week and I hope you did too.
Played some more golf and went to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic. Unfortunately, we got rained out. Thunderstorms and tornadoes raged through the area…but, I was able to get a few photographs and a few autographs…Tom Kite and John Daly were awesome.
Would love to share some photos, but haven’t downloaded them from the camera yet.
