Sherry’s Shelves #131 – Living in Paradise

Sherry’s Shelves #113 is my weekly update from August 6 – August 12, 2017.

Sunday Post #201 Countdown to Spring..

.

~~~
Summertime is FUNtime at the FUNdin household. It’s all about the outdoors and it’s even better when you have someone to share our little piece of paradise. My mother and brother have been visiting all week and we have been on the run…here, there and everywhere.
We started off with a Wahoos ballgame, played some golf, went out to eat and visited Fort Pickens, then topped it off with a Kenney Chesney concert before saying bon voyage.
Blogging took a back seat and now I am working on getting back in the swing of things.
Here’s Kenney singing Sherry’s Living in Paradise.
And some new lights for around the pool, patio, and tiki bar.
I was so fortunate to be vacationing in Cape Cod, Mass, when Mr Wonderful and I found out that The Rolling Stones would play at the Grand Opening of Gillette Stadium, where the New England Patriots play.
It was September 5, 2002, and the house was rockin’.
Their concerts have come a long way since this one.
Today I am sharing The Rolling Stones 59 by the Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ron Wood.
This is a very large illustrated book filled with tons of goodies.
MY 56
When I met Keith on Darford Station in 1961, having lost touch after beng at school together when we were very young, I immediately knew we shared a taste for great music. And soon we discovered that we both wanted to do more than just listen to it – we wanted to play music too. Going to the Ealing club and starting a band together, before joining up with Brian as the Rollin’ Stones and playing the Marquee Club in July 1962, we were pursuing a kind of dream, but it was a dream that was not yet fully clear i our minds. It was only after Bill and, soon after Charlie joined that we began to take seriously the possibility of being a band that got paid for playing the kid of music that very few others in Britain liked to play.
Because the books is filled with photos, I am sharing the first paragraph.
Christmas In July – Trimmed With Murder by Sally Goldenbaum @sallygoldenbaum
Welcome to Christmas in July.
Today I will be sharing Trimmed With Murder, Seaside Knitters Mystery #10, by Sally Goldenbaum.
Trimmed With Murder (Seaside Knitters Mystery, #10)
Amazon  /  Goodreads
MY REVIEW
Seaside Harbor is home of the fighting Cool Cods.
Just knowing that makes makes me think Trimmed With Murder will be a fun cozy mystery to curl up with on a cold winter’s night…or on the sunny beach and celebrate Christmas in July.
It all starts when Charlie picks Izzy up on the side of the road. Neither one of them wanted to be here, because we all know, in a small town there are no secrets.
Most of the characters are warm and giving…once you get to know them, but there are some with secrets to hide and will cross the line to keep them buried.
I feel bad for Charlie and wonder about the missing years in his life. Where has he been and why is he so different from the person they knew before?
And the murderer…
I know who I feel it could be, but there is also a deeper mystery to be solved…
The Knitting Club knows everyone and everything happening in town, so they figure they should be the ones to find the answers and put the town’s fears to rest, so they began to “walk the road.”  I love when a group of small town ladies get it in their heads to investigate a murder.  Some times it can be fun, other times…
I love stories located by the seaside. They lend an extra element to the story that makes me want to walk along the shore with this “tight knit” group of friends who care about their town and the people in it.
Trimmed With Murder by Sally Goldenbaum shows us that you can go home again.
Sally Goldenbaum has also included knitting instructions for a sailboat ornament and a recipe for pork tenderloin in Trimmed With Murder
GOODREADS BLURB
All Izzy Chambers Perry wants for Christmas is to keep her brother out of jail—in this holiday yarn from the national bestselling author of A Finely Knit Murder
In Sea Harbor the holidays mean cozy fires, festive carols, and soft skeins of yarn waiting to become hats and sweaters and scarves.  And this year Izzy and the other Seaside Knitters are also knitting tiny ornaments to decorate a tree for the first annual tree-trimming contest.
Their holiday cheer is multiplied when Izzy’s younger brother, Charlie Chambers, unexpectedly arrives to volunteer at a local clinic.  He brings with him outspoken hitchhiker Amber Hanson, who is returning to Sea Harbor to claim an inheritance.  She quickly reacquaints herself with the area–and forms an unlikely friendship with Charlie.  But their bond is shattered when her body is found beneath the undecorated trees on the Harbor Green.
With Charlie a suspect in the murder, Izzy and her fellow knitters step in to uncover the truth.  It’s only by peeling away long-buried secrets that they can hope to restore joy to the season, and enjoy the shining lights of the newly decorated trees.
Early Review – No Surrender by Patrick Bisher with Jon Land #PatrickBisher @jondland
No Surrender by Patrick Bisher & Jon Land was not what I expected, but so much more than I anticipated.
The true story is disheartening and uplifting, emotions flitting through the pages like butterflies through the air, leaving me feeling like all things are possible.
This is an early review and the book is up for preorder, releasing July 4, 2017.
This is one you won’t want to miss.
No Surrender: Faith, Family, and Finding Your Way
Amazon  /  Goodreads
MY REVIEW
Patrick Bisher’s true story is all about overcoming hardship and finding his true path in life. His determination and perseverance can be an inspiration to us all, giving us hope and encouragement to dream and reach for it.
Michigan is my home state, so knowing Patrick is a fellow Michigander made me want to know his story even more. He is an amazing  man with a story to share that we can all walk away from being better off for knowing it.
Imagine, as a child, a 9 year old boy, hearing, “You’ll never be able to walk again.” When I read that, the first thought to pop into my mind was One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.
At the end of each chapter is an inspirational summary of ‘What you can learn from this.’
Patrick takes us from a childhood of bullying, harassment, despair and pain, to an adulthood filled with hope and determination and a desire to inspire and uplift. He is dealt blow after blow, struggling to find his way through every setback. Even when he is lost, he finds an inner strength.
Life is full of surprises and the road twists and turns, a journey we must all take, but there is no straight line.
Funny that he also tasted the General Motors life and found it lacking. I worked there for fifteen years and took early retirement because I wanted more. It felt like a prison to me and I had to spread my wings. Sometimes we have to take a leap of faith. No risk, no reward.
I totally agree with his final chapter and it concerns me for our country’s future.
Patrick believes in Paying It Forward. His story takes us from him being bullied and labeled as a cripple who would never amount to anything, to being a Navy SEAL, when everyone said it wasn’t possible, to giving back to all those who need a little help in achieving their goals and desires.
Believe…believe in yourself.
I felt so good after reading No Surrender and I want to thank Patrick for his service to our country and his willingness to share what he has learned with all of us.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of No Surrender by Patrick Bisher & Jon Land.
Never Surrender by Corey Hart is a song I hold close to my heart.
It was an inspiration to me when I needed one and I hope it lifts you up too.
GOODREADS BLURB
A Navy SEAL who first overcame a crippling childhood condition and then a devastating training accident offers his own experiences as lessons in defeating adversity.
Patrick Bisher’s career as a Navy SEAL should have ended after a parachuting accident nearly crippled him. But overcoming adversity, even an injury as serious as a broken hip, was nothing new for him. He’d spent a portion of his childhood in leg braces. Doctors told him he’d never walk again thanks to a degenerative hip condition. He wasn’t about to give up then, any more than he was in the wake of that parachute training accident. Instead, he went on to serve in combat as a member of SEAL Team Seven, seeing action in Iraq and ultimately winning the Army Commendations Medal, among other awards.
Now Patrick wants to take the lessons he learned on and off the battlefield and apply them to everyday life. He offers inspiration to all who’ve faced the kind of adversity he has. In chapters drawn directly from his own experience, he sketches a heart-wrenching tale of salvaging lifelong victories out of crushing defeats, and hope out of heartache.
From being branded a “cripple” to successfully negotiating BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEALS) training, from agonizing pain to heroic achievement, from devastating loss to finding his faith, Patrick’s story is one of discovering ways to do everything he possibly can, instead of making excuses for what he can’t. An American hero who never surrendered is now sharing his lessons with those fighting their own battles to emerge from their dark places into the light and lead a better, more productive life
