Review – The Space Person by Catherine Kuo #catherinkwo #timberghostpress

Amazon / Goodreads

I want to thank Timber Ghost Press for the opportunity to read The Space Person by Catherine Kuo. As soon as I saw the cover, I had to have it. It’s a quick read, at 77 pages.

Human civilization had immigrated to Mars after using up all the resources on Earth and the Moon. Now they are in search of resources that can keep civilization going. They think they are in luck when they discover a moon that has the life sustaining fuel they so desperately need. Sometimes things are too good to be true.

It’s not long before the crew begins suffering affects from The Space Person. No one is safe.

Horror runs rampant before the story is over and I love when an author is not afraid to kill off their characters. Will anyone survive? You’ll have to read it to see.

Deep in the waters of uncharted space, Captain Annie Chou and First Officer Jasmine Donnelly pilot the exploration ship Shiro Oni in search of resources to sustain the remnants of human civilization back on Mars. Humanity has already been driven from Earth by its own hubris, and now it faces the threat of extinction. By an enormous stroke of luck, the Shiro Oni crew discovers a moon they can mine containing life-saving fuel, and it almost seems too good to be true. Not long after they begin drilling, anxiety, restlessness, and agitation plagues the crew with no discernible cause. The only thing they have in common is a recurring dream involving a mysterious and unsettling “space person.” Driven by Captain Chou’s ambition for fame and glory, and Donnelly’s desperate bid for her people’s salvation, the crew presses on even as the afflicted begin turning to violence. As blood flows through the corridors of the ship, the survivors must ask Is it worth it?

Review – The Prophecy by Raine Thomas @Raine_Thomas

Amazon / Goodreads

The Prophecy is a novella/short story by Raine Thomas. It’s an action packed introduction to the Estilorian world. I was already hooked on the series, because I have read the Daughters Of Saraqael trilogy.

The Prophecy introduces us to Saraqael and Quincy. We learn of their friendship and the journey they take to rescue Kate, a human that Saraqael is in love with, a very unusual situation with the Estilorians, considering they lost their ability to understand emotions when they created a separate plane of existence.

I read the Daughters Of Saraqael before reading The Prophecy and it didn’t affect my enjoyment of any of the books. I can hardly wait to crack open the next book.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of The Prophecy by Raine Thomas.

The Prophecy is an action-packed, fast-paced prequel short story to Raine Thomas’ multiple award-winning young adult fantasy Estilorian series. It isn’t necessary to read this story before beginning the series with Becoming, but it’s an exciting introduction to the Estilorian world. Happy reading!Saraqael hadn’t intended to fall in love with Kate. It shouldn’t have even been possible. His kind didn’t experience emotion, and they certainly weren’t supposed to become attached to humans. When he discovers that Kate is dying and there’s nothing he or her human doctors can do for her, Saraqael realizes how deep his feelings for her run … and just how far he’s willing to go to save her. With the help of his best friend, Quincy, he embarks on a dangerous quest spanning the Estilorian plane. A quest that will forever change the future of his kind.

Raine Thomas is the award-winning author of more than 20 bestselling romances spanning contemporary romance, Sci-Fi romance, and YA fantasy romance. She’s a hopeless romantic with a background in the fields of mental health and wedding planning…two areas that intersect far more than one would think. She’s also a book fiend, grammar nerd, and editing Red Queen, depending on who you ask.

Review – I Just Died In Your Arms – An Anthology Of Novellas Inspired By One Hit Wonders #ijustdiedinyourarms @caverstraete

Amazon / Goodreads

Hold onto your hats, people, because I have 12 novellas/short stories to share in the anthology, I Just Died In Your Arms. The beginning of each story tells the history of the song the story is based on. You may want to have some of them playing in the background, complementing these easy reading mysteries. The great cover depicts the blood that will be shed. I didn’t zip through the book like I normally would. Instead I would read a story or two, then move on to a novel I had on the back burner. That is the great thing about a quick read, you can pick it up no matter where you are at and enjoy it. It’s also a great introduction to the writing style of some new authors. Maybe you’ll even add them to your favorites list and read more of their work.

Hitting the charts only once isn’t just unfortunate…it’s a crime.

Over the decades, tons of musical artists and groups have had a hit song that has lived on long after the tune topped the charts and is often looked upon fondly for decades to come. For some musicians, this may be the only the song they’re ever known for and they fade into obscurity soon thereafter. These are affectionately known as “one-hit wonders,” and are much celebrated by fans and music publications, particularly on September 25th each year on One-Hit Wonder Day

12 of today’s best short story authors have taken their favorite one-hit wonders and reimagined them as the influence for some pretty heinous crimes. (I Just) Died in Your Arms features a decades-spanning collection of immediately recognizable hit songs turned into stories from the amazing talents of Vinnie Hansen, Jeanne DuBois, Josh Pachter, J.M. Taylor, Christine Verstraete, Sandra Murphy, Joseph S. Walker, Wendy Harrison, Bev Vincent, Leone Ciporin, Adam Gorgoni and Barb Goffman.
