I first read a Theresa Braun novel, when I read Fountain Dead. See my review HERE. I can’t remember how I got my hands on the book, but I loved it. So….when I got a chance to read her latest, I had to have it.
I love covers. Though this cover doesn’t do a lot for me, I can’t say the same for the short story inside. AND, if you want a few laughs, be sure and read her bio. 🙂
The Celestial Assignment by Theresa Braun is a very quick read at 28 pages. It’s hard to review a short story without giving anything away, but, here we go.
Will is assigned to baby girl, Celeste, for his angel training. He is not exactly the angel you may want watching over your child, but, hey, God is a forgiving god, right? Giving us opportunities to redeem ourselves?
I love characters like Will. He had no idea what the future had in store for him and I loved watching him learn, grow, and…
I didn’t see the end coming. I smiled at the twist.

GOODREADS BLURB
After a sudden death, Will, a misguided angel, is tasked with protecting a baby girl. Watching over her as she grows up and navigates the world appears a harsh punishment for his past failings. Can he redeem himself, or will he fall further from grace?
ABOUT THERESA BRAUN
Hmmm. What’s this? Looks like Ms. Braun left her computer on and her Goodreads bio open.
This should be fun.
What can we say about Theresa? I mean other than the fact that she’s
weirdly obsessed with smiley faces :-). Like, seriously obsessed
>:-*. It’s kinda scary :-O.
I think she thinks she’s from Renaissance England or Venice or
something. I never could figure out which one it was. (She’s really bad
at doing accents.)
She likes romance novels and crime TV, which are pretty much the same thing when you think about it. Ha! Am I right?
She has a hell of a singing voice. Seriously. It’s, like, seventh circle of hell bad.
She likes editing. A lot. Just wait till she get’s aload a this.
Cats. Shoes. Chips and salsa. In that order.
Yeah, that last part didn’t make sense to me either.

Planet-sized amusement parks, robo-pirates, and a sentient placenta! Step right up! Captain Carl the robo-pirate is one of the few Artificial Intelligences living on Venus-the amusement park planet. When Carl is given the spark of intelligence by his creator, he becomes a creator himself. No longer just an automaton from a pirate ride, Captain Carl creates the love of his life and searches for her perfect body. He thinks he’s found it in a big placenta. But programming is everything. When the placenta’s desire to reproduce kicks-in, the whole park is endangered as the organ grows to monster size, spreading placenta babies across the planet and eating all the rides (and the people riding them!). Captain Carl must band together with a cat, a creator, and the Pope of The Church of Transubstantial Birth Fear to stop his love from killing everyone and destroying the park. Yarrrrr!
Well, who the hell knows how this came to be on my TBR, even those I am always on the lookout for something new and different. It seems like a hoot, sooooo, I may get to it when I’m in one of those moods where nothing seems to fit what I want to read. It is a novella, so it should be a quick read. I added this on 9.8.12. How about you? Do you step outside your reading comfort zone?
OUCH! It starts out with a bug bite. And, it’s all downhill from there.
Casey is the environmentalist type, so it is no surprise finding her working for the Green Swamp Zip Line Adventure and Camp. It allows her to keep a close eye on the Swamp.
Doctor Phillip Edwards was trying to control the mosquito population by sterilizing them, then releasing them to compete for the females, hopefully limiting reproduction.
Cody is a cop, her brother, AND a major dick!
A hurricane. A chemical plant. Flooding in the Swamp. Mosquitoes. Horseflies. All of monstrous proportions. All viscous and hungry. What could possibly go wrong? LOL
Is that buzzing I hear? Did something just poke me? Is that a creepy crawlie making itself known? Shivers run up and down my spine as I read.
A swamp is already a dangerous, creepy place and Green Swamp only becomes more so as the days pass. And, we do have a surprise or two in store for you, so don’t be complacent. There is more than meets the eye going on.
Want to go on an adventure? Come on in. I dare ya.

Alaska
State Trooper Skip Ozhuwan has waited five years to reunite with Wren
Terni, the woman he’s always loved. Flying back home for his sister’s
wedding with only him and Wren in a chartered bush plane guarantees
he’ll have her undivided attention.
Ever since Skip arrested her
five years earlier, Wren vowed never to lay eyes on him again. She’s
gotten sober and made a life for herself that she’s proud of. Seeing
Skip now throws her into a tailspin.
When the plane crashes,
forcing them to battle a violent arctic storm, outwit predators, and
dispose of a dead body, they must find a way to get past their
differences if they are to survive to have a future together.
That is if they don’t kill each other first.
I love a good cover and anything to do with Alaska makes me think of my father. He always wanted to go there but was never able to do it.
The Devil and Dayna Dalton by Brit Lunden is my fourth story in the Bulwark Anthology. This cover really caught my ‘eye’ and I was excited to return to the small town of Bulwark, George and get the lowdown on Dayna.
WOW, The Devil and Dayna Dalton by Brit Lunden is the best of the Bulwark Anthology…so far.
Dayna Dalton is a small town reporter in love with someone she can never have. She is considered white trash, just like her mother. She is relegated to writing fluff stories for the paper but dreams of that big story that has some meat on its bones.
I love when she ripped off the T shirt….LOL And that was at 10%, so I am really looking forward to reading on.
Don’t tell her not to do something, because that only makes her more determined to do it.
Hmmm…who is that caped man?
Mrs Sweetpea, well I have a weird feeling about her.
There are strange happening in this small town, but no one is sharing the secrets. It’s all hush hush, so when Dayna hears someone calling her, luring her into the woods, she follows. Now…that can’t be bad, can it?
I love Dayna Dalton. I feel she has been treated unfairly and now that some of my questions are answered everything starts to come together and I can see some happiness on the horizon.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of The Devil and Dayna Dalton by Brit Lunden.
GOODREADS BLURB
Reporter Dayna Dalton’s reputation has been ruined since birth. The daughter of wild child, Becky Dalton, is expected to follow her mother’s footsteps; never given a chance to prove she’s different. Dana’s been in love with Clay Finnes since she was a teenager. Her unrequited love for Sheriff Finnes leaves her empty. He’s happily married and unavailable. Instead, Dayna finds herself stuck in the revolving door of bad relationships. But this is Bulwark, Georgia, a town where strange things are always happening. Dayna is doomed to this loveless life until she can find someone who will appreciate the depth of her character. Can she overcome her fears and look beyond her own perceptions to accept a greater love?
ABOUT BRIT LUNDEN
Brit Lunden is a prolific author who’s written over 50 books in assorted genres under different pen names. Bulwark was her first effort in adult fiction and was chosen by several of her fellow authors as the basis for a new series, A Bulwark Anthology. Using her characters, they are creating new denizens in spin-off stories to this bizarre town. Brit Lunden lives on Long Island in a house full of helpful ghosts.

In Hatton’s THE DEVIL’S DELINQUENTS, a trio of teenage misfits in pursuit of success, power, and revenge practice amateurish occult rituals… with deadly consequences.
In Thomas’s A MANY SPLENDID THING, a sultry high school teacher enrolls one of her students to get rid of her husband. But will the young man really graduate to murder?

The Turnback – You Kill Me:
“You Kill Me” is the official soundtrack to the book MURDER IN MONTAGUE FALLS (Noir-Inspired Novellas by Russ Colchamiro, Sawney Hatton & Patrick Thomas). Russ Colchamiro (a long time friend and fellow creator) asked the band to write what would be considered a closing credit tune for the book. We were happy to do so!
Read an excerpt:
RED INK
An infrared scope cut through the suburban tree line.
Perched on a high-angle branch in the neighbor’s spruce tree, Isaac could see her through the living room window, six houses away.
The M21 semi-automatic sniper rifle with fiberglass stock and 20-round box magazine was snug against his shoulder.
One bullet. One body.
Though camouflaged within a thicket of evergreen leaves, he had a clean shot.
“Come on,” he whispered, his eye against the scope. “Give me the signal.”
Natalie exits her room with the ritual kit, locking the door behind her.
Her father, swathed in a cornucopia-pattern quilt, sits in his wheelchair in the den, positioned near enough the window so that he can be in the daylight. Maybe he enjoys it, but one cannot tell for certain since his face registers no enjoyment, nor any other emotion.
Natalie kneels down before him, flips up the quilt, and undoes the bottom three buttons of his shirt, exposing his stomach. Between her fingertips, she wields the double-edged blade for a safety razor. She carefully nicks the skin above his father’s belly button. She looks up at him, detects no reaction.
She makes intersecting six-inch-long slices into his stomach, then carves a large circle around the lines, working around the seeping blood. Upon finishing, she evaluates her work and nods.
“I’m going to bring you back, daddy,” Natalie says to him, kissing his knuckles. “I promise.”
A MANY SPLENDID THING
Rosa went from smiling to bawling in less time than it took to blink. I pulled her in and held her against my bare chest. She pounded my ribs with her closed fists.
“Why won’t you understand! There is no other way! If we don’t kill him soon, you’ll come to school one day and find that he killed me. How are you going to feel then? Especially if he figures out that you’re my lover! You would follow me to the Pearly Gates.”
“Rosa, this talk of killing is crazy.”
She pushed herself back and slapped me hard across the face. “You think I’m crazy?”

The Sheriff Meets His Match came to me back on October 21, 2016. I think I received a copy for following her newsletter, but I put it on my review list, read it, and promptly forgot about it. 🙁
I loved the cover and it sounded like a fun read. Plus, being a novella, it would be a quick one. I am happy to be marking this off my review list and sharing it with you.
I was smiling from the getgo. I love a hunky, needy character like Sheriff Jack, who isn’t taking himself too seriously. I feel the humor and fun will be coming in waves and it all starts when he pulls over his sexy new secretary, Laurel Thomas, for driving like a crazy person on the snow covered road…and the mystery begins.
I love when I can relate to the little things, like using my credit card to scrape the ice off my windshield. I left the cold for Florida and Laurel Thomas left Florida for the cold. lol
The descriptive writing made the scenes easy to visualize the car sliding, fishtailing on the slippery snow covered road, the deputy knocking his hat against his leg to clean it of snow, her sexy legs as she slides out of the car, the Charlie Brown Christmas tree…you get the drift. 🙂
He comes to her rescue, only to nearly bowl her over, banging her head, with his gun drawn. Even in danger, there is humor.
“Men. You can’t live with them, and you can’t shoot ’em. It’s a felony.”
A snowball flew…I found myself snorting, laughing through it all. I love the little details that make the story feel real.
It’s obvious, the story is a romance, so we will have plenty of that. It’s the journey that makes The Sheriff Meets His Match so much fun. There is danger, but I got so caught up in the characters themselves, that their personalities and antics is what I remember most.

MY REVIEW
A Darker Shade of Evil is an anthology of fabulous authors and because the book is 15,061 pages on my Kindle and I am only at 6,205, I will be sharing four soul sucking novels and highly recommend these steamy reads for adult only.
Alone in the Dark by Khardine Gray – USA Today Bestselling Author
Forbidden love. I’m hooked. It seems to go hand in hand with the supernatural world that I love to get lost in. Some very hot, steamy sex, but the story takes priority. I quickly fell in loe with the characters and the supernatural world they live in. Witches, lycans, werewoves, fae, good and evil, battle as a war brews and the threat of Razal rising looms on the horizon. What more could I possibly ask for? Well, I was sad to see it end and that’s what I am asking for…MORE, because it ended all too soon. 4 Stars
The Devil Upstairs by Dariel Raye – USA Today Bestselling Author
He rose from his grave, after a very long time, and he knew that mean war was on the horizon. He was the last of his kind and that made me very curious about him. It’s Christmas and with it come memories of how he came to be. His mission has a name: revenge. Kat is unemployed, with no one to care but her best friend, Shell. What is she doing going out partying and rent is overdue? She felt pulled…and watched. I can relate to her inability to keep her mouth shut when angered Words came out without censor. She is naive and innocent, and she has no idea of what is coming. Forbidden love. Wow. Intense, hot sex and a love to last a lifetime….however long that may be. 4 Stars
Soul Bonded by Lori Titus – USA Today Bestselling Author
Natasha had been brought up to not be chasing demons. Well, obvious to me that’s gonna change. Christopher had become a drunk since leaving Special Ops. How will they come together? Enter: Victor Ramshead. Natasha cared for her mom, who has dementia, but couldn’t keep a caregiver because she would blurt out their psychic visions and scare them away. Her parents trained her about the supernatural world, but she is gonna need to bone up on it to face what is to come. When the demon wants you and makes an offer you can’t refuse, well…What price will be paid? It felt like a prequel and gave me just enough to want more of the good and evil characters and the fight to come. 3 Stars
Succubus Unleashed by Muffy Wilson – USA Today Bestselling Author
I knew the girl that would steal my heart would be different, but not this different.
Sapphira must find a mortal man to stand at her side and rule the clan as Queen Mother, all while perpetuating their species by producing children, being new blood into the fold. She marveled in her new body as I tried to figure out exactly what she is and when I did, I loved it! She is a water creature, and I am hooked right there. She has scales and wings, and now, two legs. The feelings Brock invoked in her were new to her. Is he the one? They would have to fight to together, and she was ready when he called. I was quickly caught up in her sweet innocence and couldn’t help but love her. I fell right into their insta love. It was magical and easy. Wow, just wow. Intense romance and hot sex, along with the lovin’. 4 Stars

Sylvia was searching for a good story to kick off her journalism career and almost immediately I thought I knew how the story would go…but not quite. Calvin Demmer wasn’t going to make it quite that easy for me.
Suicide Bridge…36 cases. Why had she never heard of it before?
I can guess. There’s something going on and everyone in town wants to keep it a secret.
Suitably creepy for an easy reading short story.
