Giveaway & Review – A Desolate Hour by Mae Clair @MaeClair1 @SDSXXTours

I am sad to see The Mothman’s story end, but happy to have Mae Clair here to share her thoughts.

Cryptozoology, Urban Legend and Myths
By Mae Clair

The word “cryptozoology” is one that often leaves people scratching their heads. Simply put it’s a pseudo-science devoted to the study of creatures that may exist, but haven’t been proven to exist. Most commonly, Bigfoot and the Lochness Monster spring to mind. I love reading up on cryptozoology, urban legends and myth, so I thought I’d share my Top Ten:

  1. The Mothman
I spent three years researching this winged “cryptid” including visiting the area where he was sighted in 1966-67, so of course he gets the number one position! My Point Pleasant Series incorporates the mythology of the Mothman, UFOs, Men In Black, and an ancient curse.
  2. The Lochness Monster
I’ve been fascinated by Nessie since I was a kid. I honestly hope no one ever discovers she’s “real.” The mystery is far more compelling.
  3. The Van Meter Monster
This gargoyle like creature haunted the town of Van Meter, Iowa during the autumn of 1903. Most of the eyewitness accounts were made by businesses men and other professionals who couldn’t afford to be viewed as “crackpots,” thus lending credence to the sightings.
  4. Jellyfish of the Air
In 1953 William Reich and an assistant raised an “orgone-charged” rod into the air in the hopes of attracting invisible beings he believed co-existed in our in our dimension, but were invisible to the naked eye. Within five seconds, a huge jellyfish-like creature attached itself to the rod, becoming visible long enough for Leistig to capture it in a photograph.
  5. The Squonk
I love the name! This Pennsylvania creature is reputed to be so hideous in appearance it spends its entire life sobbing and will vanish in a pool of tears if captured.
  6. The Hopkinsville Goblins
Extraterrestrial visitors who descended on the Sutton family farm in August of 1955, terrorizing the Suttons and their guest. No evidence of a hoax was ever discovered, causing many to believe the events an authentic UFO encounter.
  7. Men in Black
Mysterious men in black suits descended on the town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia in 1966-67 with the sole intention of warning UFO witnesses not to talk about their encounters.
  8. Scotland’s Dog Suicide Bridge
Since the 1960s more than fifty dogs have leapt to their death from the Overtoun Bridge in Scotland. Even stranger, all the dogs jumped from the exact same spot, and each apparent “suicide” has occurred on pleasant, sunny days.
  9. Ley Lines
It’s believed many of the old places of the Earth resonate with power—hillforts, crossroads, standing stones and old funerary paths among them. When these and other “ley markers” align in a geographical pattern, they create a hypothetical link capable of releasing powerful energy.
  10. The Snallygaster
Maryland’s half-bird/half reptile creature was given enough credence in 1909 that Teddy Roosevelt almost canceled an African Safari to hunt it.

Thanks so much for the opportunity to share The Mothman’s story.

MY REVIEW

This is the third book in the series, and the finale, so I will do my best to not include spoilers. Just make you want to run right out and buy this mystery series. If you are a creature feature lover, like me, this will be a must read collection you want on your reading shelf.

It’s nice to be back in Point Pleasant, with familiar friends and monsters, waiting for the next adventure to begin.

Book II left me feeling so sad for Mothman and I worry about what will become of him. He has lived for A Thousand Yesteryears, the only one of his kind.

The Ouija Board had foretold QM would become a part of Sarah’s life. WTH is QM?

The curse brought HIM to Point Pleasant.

Caden is a cop in Point Pleasant and knows the Mothman, and others, that I won’t speak about. You’ll have to meet them all yourself…and you might want to have someone with you when you do.

Lach is back and there is always trouble when he makes an appearance.

Stone amulets…a deadly blade…a curse

Shawn and Preech will play their part as the curse rises from the past, demanding retribution. You can never escape the past…innocent or guilty, it just doesn’t matter.

A Desolate Hour, great title by the way, has an aura of menace from the beginning.

“A Desolate Hour when a tear in time renders past and present in one.” How can that be anything but bad news?

When Mothman vanishes for long periods of time and everything is normal in Point Pleasant, I wonder where he goes, what he’s doing. He didn’t ask for his fate. Alone. Isolated. Angry. Suffering.

As the people and forces in Point Pleasant draw together, it is ‘the culmination of A Desolate Hour’, and the door closes on the Mothman’s story. Mae Clair did a bang up job with the ending, leaving me satisfied, but…

I am so sad to be leaving Point Pleasant and the marvelous characters and adventure I have had, but I do not despair. I know Mae Clair has another marvelous story up her sleeve and I aim to get my hands on it.

If you are a creature feature lover, if you crave reading about myths and legends, if you like to be scared and surprised, run and soar through the air, this is one series you don’t want to miss.

Sins of the past could destroy all of their futures . . .

For generations, Quentin Marsh’s family has seen its share of tragedy, though he
remains skeptical that their misfortunes are tied to a centuries-old
curse. But to placate his pregnant sister, Quentin makes the
pilgrimage to Point Pleasant, West Virginia, hoping to learn more
about the brutal murder of a Shawnee chief in the 1700s. Did one of
the Marsh ancestors have a hand in killing the chief —the man who
cursed the town with his dying breath?
While historian Sarah Sherman doesn’t believe in curses either, she’s compelled
to use her knowledge of Point Pleasant to uncover the long-buried
truth. The river town has had its own share of catastrophes, many
tied to the legendary Mothman, the winged creature said to haunt the
woods. But Quentin’s arrival soon reveals that she may have more of
a stake than she realized. It seems that she and Quentin possess
eerily similar family heirlooms. And the deeper the two of them dig
into the past, the more their search enrages the ancient mystical
forces surrounding Point Pleasant. As chaos and destruction start to
befall residents, can they beat the clock to break the curse before
the Mothman takes his ultimate revenge? . . .

Mae Clair opened a Pandora’s Box of characters when she was a child and never looked
back. Her father, an artist who tinkered with writing, encouraged her
to create make-believe worlds by spinning tales of far-off places on
summer nights beneath the stars.
Mae loves creating character-driven fiction in settings that vary from contemporary to
mythical. Wherever her pen takes her, she flavors her stories with
conflict, romance and elements of mystery. Married to her high school
sweetheart, she lives in Pennsylvania and is passionate about
writing, old photographs, a good Maine lobster tail and cats.

Blood Bank by Zoe Markham Giveaway & Review @ZoeMarkham @YABoundToursPR

Blood Bank
by Zoe Markham
Genre: YA Fantasy/Horror
Release Date: July 2017

MY REVIEW

There is so much that drew me to Blood Bank by Zoe Markham – the title, the cover, the subject matter…

At first, I kept getting confused and had to go back and read the blurb. It seemed to be all over the place. But, maybe that was just me, because it didn’t take long for it to come together.

I know people tend to have a love/hate relationship with Twilight, so I must warn you right out of the gate, if you hate Twilight, you might want to move on. I loved Twilight and the further into the story I go, the more it comes to mind. Works great for me.

Zack owes a vampire a debt and must come when called. The debt will be paid in blood…his. They own him. There is no way out, but death. Or is there?

Zack is summoned and he leaves his girlfriend, Lucy, high and dry in a seedy part of town and I know something wicked this way comes.

Ben is part of The Clan and they use the internet and Club Dystopia to fulfill their financial and feeding needs. They walk among us, they look like us…sorta…talk like us, and could be standing right next to us. You do not want to get on the wrong side of them.

But Ben is different and is about to cross the vampiric line…Do vampires have souls?

They want nothing to do with women. Why? Is it true that we are the stronger of the species?

Zoe Markham got me good when Lucy was attacked with needles. I was fooled and I love when an author is able to pull that off.

As the characters are drawn together, the story heats up, the danger rises and lives are at stake, human and vampire alike. How they’ll get out of the mess they’re in, I am trying to figure out. They are flawed characters and I empathize  with their conflicting thoughts and feelings.

OH MAN…no ending. I was left in an okay place, and I can guess most of what is to come, but I still want to take the journey with Lucy, Ben and Zack, right to the end.

Summary from Goodreads:

Benjamin is a programmer moonlighting as a security guard at Dystopia, a seedy club that caters to the down-and-outs, the desperate, the addicts. He’s been building his reputation, saving for a way out – but when he rescues a young woman from the nearby estate, he may just have stepped too far out of line…

Lucy is ordinary; a girl with a deadbeat boyfriend, a normal life and college studies. But when her world takes an odd twist, she starts to wonder about the people she’s meeting, the situations she’s in, the odd aversions and attacks happening around her. They’re just coincidences…aren’t they?

And Zack is in deep trouble. He’s losing his girlfriend, drowning in debt, and has dwindling job prospects – and that’s not the worst of it. His debt is to people who won’t ever forget it, and who want the things closest to Zack’s heart: his blood – and his life. In the heart of Swindon, an ancient order hides in plain sight, spreading their influence through the streets like a disease. But despite their widespread power they are catching up with the modern world: the vampires are going online, and the Order is about to become more powerful than even they would have dreamed…

New Release – Seeing Red by Sandra Brown @sandrabrown_NYT

I have been reading Sandra Brown for a long time now, and she never fails to delight me.

Seeing Red by Sandra Brown releases on 8.15.17.

I picked up a copy from Net Galley. Thank you, Sandra and Grand Central Publishing.

Seeing RedAmazon US  /  Amazon UK  /  Goodreads

MY REVIEW

Seeing Red by Sandra Brown has a great hook to start off, with lots of questions to be answered and I am eager to learn them all.

An act of terrorism brings them together., but Kerra never could have predicted what would happen next. Trouble seems to follow her and her life is in danger once again. But why?

Kerra’s a TV reporter. Glad she’s not the bloodthirsty, story at all costs type, or is she? Does she have some principles and ethics, or is she just playing Trapper?

I love flawed characters and Trapper is a good…bad boy, a handful for Kerra. I love his cocky, arrogant attitude and his soft side when he wants to show it. He’s a Private Investigator, the suspicious sort and will be by Kerra’s side until the danger passes. And I plan on stalking every step he takes.

Romance + Suspense = Fireworks.

“You’re everything bad boy wrong, which makes you everything desirable…”

I love all the sexually charged banter in romantic suspense, the frustration and humor. Kerra and Trapper manage to supply me with plenty to smile about…and I do want to smack them upside the head occasionally.

I don’t know exactly why, but I kept putting it down, reading something else, and coming back to it. Not enough action and suspense? Read too many thrillers in a row and need a change? BUT, now that all the pieces are coming together, we have surprise after surprise and I am all in.

The bad guys list is growing and man am I getting POed. I am twisting, turning, wondering who will have to fall, and I mean drop dead, before it’s over.

I knew there would be greed, corruption, and betrayal, but I didn’t see all this coming.Thank you, Sandra, for making the last quarter of the book so nail bitingly suspenseful and unpredictable, that I couldn’t quit reading until I reached the happy ever after ending.

GOODREADS BLURB

#1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sandra Brown delivers her trademark nonstop suspense and supercharged sexual tension in this thriller about tainted heroism, cold fury, and vengeance without mercy. Kerra Bailey is a television journalist on the rise, and she’s hot on the trail of a story guaranteed to skyrocket her career to even greater heights: an interview with the legendary Major Trapper. Twenty-five years ago, the Major emerged a hero from the bombing of the Pegasus Hotel in downtown Dallas when he was photographed leading a handful of survivors out of the collapsing building. The iconic picture transformed him into a beloved national icon, in constant demand for speeches and interviews–until he suddenly dropped out of the public eye, shunning all members of the media. However, Kerra is willing to use any means necessary to get to the Major–even if she has to wrangle an introduction from his estranged son, former ATF agent John Trapper.

Still seething over his break with both the ATF and his father, John Trapper wants no association with the hotel bombing or his hero father, and spurns the meddling reporters determined to drag them back into the limelight. Yet Kerra’s sheer audacity and tantalizing hints that there’s more to the story rouse Trapper’s interest despite himself. And when her interview of a lifetime goes catastrophically awry–with unknown assailants targeting not only the Major, but also Kerra–Trapper realizes he needs her under wraps if he’s going to track down the gunmen before they strike again . . . as well as discover, finally, who was responsible for the Pegasus bombing.

Kerra is wary of a man so charming one moment and dangerous the next, and she knows Trapper is withholding evidence collected during his ATF investigation into the bombing. But having no one else to trust and enemies lurking closer than they know, Kerra and Trapper join forces and risk their very lives to expose a sinuous network of lies and conspiracy running deep through Texas–and uncover who would want a national hero dead.

Giveaway & Review – The Ghost King by Jeff Altabef @JeffAltabef @novelpublicity

Welcome! Today I’m helping author Jeff Altabef launch his latest book, The Ghost King!

Who are Aalis, Wilkey & why are they going to war? Will there be more magic & mayhem in this second book? One of the best parts of this release is you can get both books for only 99c right now!

What else is so great about this release? This exclusive excerpt! There are 5 featured excerpts on this tour. One on the Novel Publicity page, one on Jeff Altabef’s Website, and 3 spread among the 20+ blogs that have helped Jeff with this release!

About the Book

An Ancient Prophecy foretold.
An Evil haunts the land.
A battle looms against overwhelming odds.

Led by a powerful witch, a wild invading army threatens to tear the Soulless lands apart. To survive, the three tribes must join together, but old grievances and hatred divide them. Only Wilky can unite them, but when he glimpses the future, he sees only a glimmer of hope; too much of the future remains veiled in darkness.
As the battle approaches, King Dermot orders his brother, Eamon, to stay behind at the Stronghold and defend against a possible siege. Eamon, who took an oath to fight the invaders, defies his brother, risks everything, and plunges into a desperate race with Aaliss and Wilky to unite the tribes.
Enemies from all sides conspire against them. Only together can they hope to succeed against the witch who will stop at nothing to destroy them. Yet even united, they will need magic to defeat this enemy at their door.
As the battle looms, only one chance at survival remains–the Ghost King–but who is he, and what will be the price of their redemption?

MY REVIEW

I am so happy to be back in Jeff Altabef’s magical world of danger, treachery and betrayal, greed and power, good and evil…

We start with Wilky, and what he sees in the future makes him more determined than ever to change it. He will not lose Aaliss, his sister.

In this complex world of different ‘tribes’, a war is on the horizon and the misfit group will have to learn to pool their resources and work together to defeat the evil coming at them.

OF COURSE, my favorite is Aaliss. I can’t imagine any hot blooded man not falling in love with this badass warrior.

The cutest one is Pryluck. Love this odd little man, but he is so innocent I can’t help but want to protect him, find him a home.

Jeff Altabef has built a fabulous magical fantasy world with characters that had me eating out of their hands gasping when they are attacked, melting with a gently loving touch, yet cheering when they deal evil a violent deadly blow.

I think The Ghost King can stand alone, but to get the most out of this wonderful story, I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to grab Red Death too.

I was so fortunate to be vacationing in Cape Cod, Mass, when Mr Wonderful and I found out that The Rolling Stones would play at the Grand Opening of Gillette Stadium, where the New England Patriots play.

It was September 5, 2002, and the house was rockin’.

Their concerts have come a long way since this one.

Today I am sharing The Rolling Stones 59 by the Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ron Wood.

This is a very large illustrated book filled with tons of goodies.

MY 56

When I met Keith on Darford Station in 1961, having lost touch after beng at school together when we were very young, I immediately knew we shared a taste for great music. And soon we discovered that we both wanted to do more than just listen to it – we wanted to play music too. Going to the Ealing club and starting a band together, before joining up with Brian as the Rollin’ Stones and playing the Marquee Club in July 1962, we were pursuing a kind of dream, but it was a dream that was not yet fully clear i our minds. It was only after Bill and, soon after Charlie joined that we began to take seriously the possibility of being a band that got paid for playing the kid of music that very few others in Britain liked to play.

Because the books is filled with photos, I am sharing the first paragraph.

Giveaway & Review – Soul Mate by Anna Santos @AnneSaint90 @SDSXXTours

Soul-Mate
The Immortal Love Series Book 1
by Anna Santos
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy
.
MY REVIEW
.P
I saw the blurb for Soul-Mate and it made me want to know Annabelle’s story. It’s not often I come across a hybrid supernatural and I was curious which would win out, the were or the vampire.
.
The whole town is filled with weres, vampires, and hybrids. Everyone knows they don’t mix, but here they carry on daily life as if they are humans, so don’t forget that they have hidden abilities when you visit.
.
We will have insta-love and I can live with that in the supernatural world. As soon as Shane sets eyes on her, gets a sniff, he knows Annabelle is his Soul-Mate. Not so with her.
.
The erotic, jump in the sack, first part of the book bored me. I never had a chance to connect to the characters before hand…I rarely do this, but I started skimming the pages, wanting to get to the heart of the story. And I found it.
.
Annabelle is a hunter. I guess you could say her and Shane, a werewolf sheriff, have some things in common. They are both out to get the bad guy.
.
We read from two perspectives, his and hers. I like seeing the story that way and Anna Santos did a great job with it.
.
It was hilarious, picturing Shane, spying on Annabelle from a tree, nekkid. LOL
.
I am really interested in Annabelle and Jessica’s friendship. I think there is more to the story than first meets the eye.  Annabelle is the serious one and Jessica is happy-go-lucky, love ’em and leave ’em. I really want to know more about Jessica…
.
The slow ‘burning’ start soon gave way to some action, and once it got going, I couldn’t stop. I feel asleep with the Kindle on my lap with just 17% to go. That is the first time that has happened to me in so long I can’t remember. So…stick with it.
.
If I did half stars, it would get 3 1/2, so I am having a difficult time rating this. So…check it out for yourself, if you like hot and sexy, erotic, paranormal reads.

Annabel is a bad-ass hybrid hunter, seeking revenge from the vampire who
killed her parents and put her brother in a coma. Arriving in a new
town with an undercover identity to protect and the mission to find a
pureblood vampire to save her brother’s life, the last thing
Annabel needs is to fall in love with the sexy, persistent werewolf
who thinks she’s a helpless human in need of a knight in shining
armor.

Shane is a dominant werewolf who also happens to be the local sheriff. He
has almost lost hope of finding his better half. So when his
beautiful soul-mate shows up and rogue vampires try to kill her, he
does what any smart wolf would do: he saves her and takes her home,
hoping to convince her that they belong together.

When sparks fly between them, Annabel has to decide if she tells him who
she really is or runs the other way to protect her secrets.

This is Book One in the Immortal Love Series, and it’s also a great
standalone paranormal romance with a HEA. No Cliffhanger. This story
is steamy, sexy, and a page turner.

Book 2&3 already available with a new feisty heroine.

arrives at Affinity, she is brought closer to her goal. But
encountering the man of her dreams is only half the battle.
Convincing him that she is his reincarnated love may prove to be next
to impossible.

Some memories should remain hidden. If unlocked, death will claim Jessica
before her enemy. Although, her survival won’t matter if she faces
a rejection that will shatter her very soul.

Author’s Note: This is the long awaited book 2 of the Immortal Love Series.

A Desolate Hour (Point Pleasant, #3)

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of A Desolate Hour by Mae Clair.

GOODREADS BLURB

Sins of the past could destroy all of their futures . . .

For generations, Quentin Marsh’s family has seen its share of tragedy, though he remains skeptical that their misfortunes are tied to a centuries-old curse. But to placate his pregnant sister, Quentin makes the pilgrimage to Point Pleasant, West Virginia, hoping to learn more about the brutal murder of a Shawnee chief in the 1700s. Did one of the Marsh ancestors have a hand in killing the chief —the man who cursed the town with his dying breath?

While historian Sarah Sherman doesn’t believe in curses either, she’s compelled to use her knowledge of Point Pleasant to uncover the long-buried truth. The river town has had its own share of catastrophes, many tied to the legendary Mothman, the winged creature said to haunt the woods. But Quentin’s arrival soon reveals that she may have more of a stake than she realized. It seems that she and Quentin possess eerily similar family heirlooms. And the deeper the two of them dig into the past, the more their search enrages the ancient mystical forces surrounding Point Pleasant. As chaos and destruction start to befall residents, can they beat the clock to break the curse before the Mothman takes his ultimate revenge?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mae ClairMae Clair opened a Pandora’s Box of characters when she was a child and never looked back. Her father, an artist who tinkered with writing, encouraged her to create make-believe worlds by spinning tales of far-off places on summer nights beneath the stars.

Mae loves creating character-driven fiction in settings that vary from contemporary to mythical. Wherever her pen takes her, she flavors her stories with conflict, romance and elements of mystery.
