 Summary
.

For the past five years, Natalya Stravinsky has dreamed of two things: to rejoin the South Toms River werewolf pack and to be reunited with Thorn Grantham. Fate may have brought the pack back into her life, but unless she journeys to Russia to save Thorn, the love she’s found may be lost again. For a stubborn werewolf like Natalya, no distance is too far, no magic spell too complex to master, because one way or another she will find a way to have everything she has ever wanted.

EXCERPT

Kay gave Storm an amused look. “In some ways this feels more familiar than watching TV with my wife. ”

They were separating from Ram and Rev, going opposite ways in an alley. Storm looked back over his shoulder at Ram and Rev walking away. On a whim he called out, “Sol!” Without hesitation, Rev turned and said, “Yeah?”

The four of them stood frozen, Storm and Rev staring at each other, Kay and Ram looking back and forth between the two. Let it never be said that Ram didn’t know how to handle a situation delicately. “What the fuck, Stormy?”

“You know, that’s a good question, Ram. And well put.” Storm didn’t take his eyes off Rev.

“Something you want to tell us.”

Rev pursed his lips before growling. “No.”

“You sure?”

“You gone hard of hearing?”

Storm’s gaze was a concentrated challenge, pinning Rev in place, but he moved in close enough for quiet conversation.

“How about clueing us in, brother,” Kay was as calm as the eye of a hurricane as he nudged Storm. “What’s going on here?”

“Has it seemed to you that there are things about the new Sovereign that seem familiar? Eerily so?”

“Like what?” Ram asked as he eyed Rev from top to bottom.

“Oh, like the fact that he smokes the same brand of Turkish cigars that Sol used to smoke. And lights them with an old school fluid lighter. Then he puts the lighter down in front of him and turns it around and around the same way Sol used to.” Kay turned his attention toward Rev and began regarding him with increased interest. “How about the way he screws up his mouth when he’s aggravated or the way he steeples his fingers when he’s making a decision?”

Rev lifted his chin in defiance and narrowed his eyes at Storm. “And let’s not forget the fact that he took a bead on Farnsworth about thirty seconds after arriving Jefferson Unit. Doesn’t it strike you as a little strange that he handles Sol’s job like he knows what he’s doing? No. Not like he knows what he’s doing. Like he’s done it before!”

Ram eased around in front of Rev so that the three veteran members of B Team appeared united as the inquisitors they had just become. They stood in a dimly lit alley with accusation hanging in the air, waiting for Rev to answer.

“Your imagination’s just got the better of you, Sir Storm.”

“There! Right there. I never met another knight who called me Sir Storm. But Sol did.” Storm glanced at Kay. “All the time. Called me Mr. Storm when I was a kid. Switched to Sir Storm when I was inducted.” He stepped closer to Rev. “When I called Sol’s name, you turned around like you’d been answering to that name your whole life.”

Ram and Kay were giving Rev looks that said the questions weren’t going to go away just by staring Storm down. Finally Rev replied with the cool of an iceberg.

“So what are you saying? Exactly? That I’m a body snatcher?”

“What I’m doing right now is asking questions.”

“I don’t have answers for you.”

“NO!” Rev’s answer was a little too forceful and a little too quick.

“Start talking.” Rev blew out a breath and looked around at the alley.

”Let’s go sit down somewhere private.” He ran a hand through his hair. “I’ll buy a round of drinks and tell you a story. Not about me mind you. A story about a guy I heard of.”

Purr-fect Cover Reveal for Purr-fect Mating by Sheryl Winters

This beautiful cover caught my attention and I spent some time just trying to decipher all its elements. What do you think?

The synopsis made me think of a Charmed episode (a TV show about witches and such). A couple were cursed and the guy was an owl by day and the girl was a wolf by night.

Purr-fect Mating by Sheryl Winters hooked me.

Awesome new covers for Lancaster House and The Middle Aisle by Taylor Dean

COVER REVEAL!
.
Brand new covers for Lancaster House and The Middle Aisle!
.
~A paranormal romance series by Taylor Dean~
.
.

Lancaster House was the first Taylor Dean book that I read. I loved it, but when I read The Middle Aisle, she won me over for life. It has one of the best endings I have every read. Even now, months later, it pops into my mind off and on.

I have always thought her covers are very original and I love the painterly effect.

Buuuuut. I totally agree with her decision to change them. I think these beautiful and fantastic new covers are going to scream from the shelf, “PICK ME! PICK ME!” What do you think?

My Review for Lancaster House    /     My Review for The Middle Aisle

.
.
I love my OLD covers. (Pictured on the left.) I really do. They’re different from the norm and that’s why they captured my attention.For Lancaster House, I liked the idea of a hand reaching out from the grave. It seemed appropriate to the story; Andre reaches out to Zoe from beyond the grave. It was Carrie-like and kind of creepy.

There’s just one problem.

This is not a horror novel. Not at all. This is a paranormal romance. People who like horror are drawn to the cover and are sadly disappointed when they realize it’s a romance.
.
People who love paranormal romance are turned off by the cover because it looks too creepy. In other words, the cover just wasn’t working.
.
.
.
.
.
I love The Middle Aisle cover because it matched Lancaster House so perfectly. And part of the story takes place in Monterey, California. Monterey is known for its Cypress trees. The tree on the cover of The Middle Aisle reminded me of a Cypress tree and seemed perfect.
But, if the right people aren’t reading the first book, no one will ever read the second one no matter what the cover looks like!
.
Bam! Decision made!
.
It was time for new covers for Lancaster House and The Middle Aisle! I love the new covers because they speak so perfectly as to what’s on the inside..
.
.
.
.
Without further ado, here they are, the new covers!

Bob is not your typical ghost – Giveaway tour for Bob at the Lake by R Murphy

VBT_Bob_at_the_Lake_Banner_copy

Between the cover and the title, I couldn’t resist Bob at the Lake by R. Murphy.

Sooooo, come and join me on a ghostly adventure that will having you laughing and crying, singing and dancing, leaving you with a good feeling when you are done.

I have tons to share with you: an excerpt, my review, a visit from Roz and a giveaway, so be sure and check out all the fun.

Bob at the Lake by R. Murphy

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB
 Take a crabby woman of a certain age, move her to the wintry shores of a New York lake, and then throw in a martini-loving ghost from 1920s Manhattan. Last, stir in the good-looking grape grower who lives up the hill. Now there’s a recipe for a potent screwball cocktail!
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT

“Trust me, it will hit you like a brick of gold.”

 That’s Bob. He’s my ghost. Well, not my ghost since I’m sitting here writing, but the ghost who lives with me. Other women probably get muscleman ghosts who can fix plumbing and take out the garbage, or romantic ghosts who set their hearts a-flutter. Me, I get a ghost who’s middle-aged, plump, and who likes to lounge around the house in a silk smoking jacket from the nineteen-thirties. Not exactly the kind of ghost I’d ever imagined I’d get. I will admit, though, that Bob does make an amazing martini. A martini that, in fact, hits you like a brick of gold.

I found, unfortunately, the longer Bob lived at my place, the more I appreciated his skill with martinis. Which was probably not a great thing for my liver, or my relationships with my sisters, but what the heck.

Remember the Great Recession? According to the newspapers, some consumers seem to be wiping it from their memories, but it had a big impact on a lot of people, including me. That economy hurt. Lost jobs, lost houses, lost marriages, lost hopes—lives turned upside down in the flutter of a pink slip. People scrambling just to keep from drowning—couch surfing, penny pinching, living newly frugal lives.

Like millions of others, the economy sucked me into its undertow…

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MY REVIEW OF BOB AT THE LAKE
“Trust me, it will hit you like a brick of gold.”
That’s Bob. He’s my ghost.
So, here she sits – with Bob – drinking the golden martini he just made her.
 ~~~~~~

The cover is such fun and the blurb put a smile on my face in this, not your usual, ghost story. I felt this would be rollicking good fun and I was not disappointed. I was smiling while reading along, but when they met, I couldn’t help but burst out laughing. The story and writing are humorous and uplifting. The setting is in the Finger Lakes region of New York, of which I am very familiar. I lived in the area for ten years and love it when I can imagine myself in the characters place.

I thought of Casper the Ghost and the Ghost of Mrs. Muir. Bob is a fun, whimsical ghost that doesn’t take life seriously. Why should he? He’s a ghost. He has a mission and when it is done, he will move on.

Sooooo, come and join me on a ghostly adventure that will having you laughing and crying, singing and dancing, leaving you with a good feeling when you are done.

She moved to her summer home on Crooked Lake in the Finger Lakes region of New York after losing her nine to five job. I laughed when she talked about her feelings of isolation. Anyone moving to a remote area like this after living in a big city would have an adjustment period, if they ever did adjust.

I read a lot of mysteries and watch lots of TV shows about murder and serial killers, as did the character. Just imagine, sitting in the dark on an isolated winter lake, alone, knowing no one and used to hearing the sounds of the big city. The silence can be an enemy, leaving you jumping at every creak of the house. I can and do have experiences where my imagination runs wild and spooks me. I laugh at myself, as I make sure the doors and windows are locked and the blinds are all closed, so it was easy to step into her shoes and call for Bob. After all, a ghost is better than nobody.

She is not a spring chicken and has been around the block a time or two. She is a freelance business writer and works hard to do her work justice, going above and beyond. So she had some way to make money.

She wonders, How do writers support themselves? She thinks each chapter of a book should start out with – How I Paid the Bills while writing this Chapter or how to cut eating expenses – take one package of ramen noodles…. I liked that R slipped things like this into the book, things I was already curious about.

Her descriptions of the characters brought them to life. I loved them all, even the bitter old neighbor lady.

Their road trips are an adventure and I am exhausted and ready to return home myself.

I felt sad when she talked of her dad and like real life, I don’t want to think about that. I read every wonderful word anyway.

Oh no. The book is over but the story isn’t.

R Murphy writes of high and lows, life and death, laughter and sadness – life – in a highly entertaining, easy to read novel that had me captivated from beginning to end.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos  4 STARS – Would Highly Recommend To Others

Writerly Workouts?

 Roz here:

 As anyone who’s read my debut novel Bob at the Lake knows, I’m a very reluctant exerciser. Squabbles with Bob (the ghost who lives with me), Finger Lakes wines, and homemade cookies are my pastimes of choice and it takes a lot to levitate my (somewhat oversized, I admit) butt out of a chair to work up a sweat. Luckily, though, I live in a house surrounded by hills, and they provide an amazing workout anytime I want one.

The only thing that pushes my butt up those hills is music. Hard, driving music. This morning, motivated by an article about the work habits of creative people and stunned to see how many writers include vigorous workouts in their lives, I’ve decided to goose up my hillwalking routine. That means, of course, that I have to goose up my music.

For fun, I thought I’d share some of the hyper-pumping songs I’ve added to my new Playlist entitled: “Butt up Hill.” (Bob hates this music. He can be an old fuddy-duddy sometimes. He’d rather I work out to the tunes of Irving Berlin or George Gershwin. Don’t get me wrong–I love Bob’s musical selections. They’re just not going to achieve my exercise mission: ‘butt up hill.’)

So here you go: Five musical selections guaranteed to push your heinie up a steep incline…

1) Kenny Loggins, “Footloose”

2) Bay City Rollers, “Saturday Night”

3) Lady GaGa, “The Edge of Glory”

4) Cast of Glee version, “Party All the Time”

5) Tina Turner, “The Best”

I’d love to get any reader recommendations for songs that might fire up a reluctant workout queen to put on her sneakers and hit the hill. Please add them below or join me on Roz Murphy Author on Facebook. I look forward to checking out your suggestions!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

MEDIA_KIT_roz_murphy_(2)Roz Murphy is the pseudonym of a shy, retiring writer who doesn’t want her neighbors to know how nutty she really is. Brooklyn-born and Jersey-bred, Roz now lives on the misty shore of one of New York’s beautiful Finger Lakes. Prior to that, her business writing career took her to many locations, including Manhattan, where she worked for a number of years. As a freelance and corporate writer, Roz won several national and international writing and communications awards.

Now Roz is pursuing her first love—fiction. She’s writing the ‘Bob’ books, the humorous chronicle of a crabby ‘woman of a certain age’ who moves to the wintry shores of a New York lake—and gets a ghost. And not just any ghost, mind you. Bob’s a plump, middle-aged ghost from 1920s Manhattan who swans around in a silk smoking jacket and drinks far too many martinis. Stir the good-looking grape grower who lives up the hill into this mix and you get a pretty potent screwball cocktail!

When she’s not reading, writing, hill-walking, staring mindlessly out the window at the lake or piling rocks onto her ever-diminishing lakefront, you can usually find Roz hanging out with her family, travelling, or exploring the amazing wines and wineries of the Finger Lakes.

‘Bob at the Lake’ is exclusively available as a Kindle download from Amazon. Please join Roz Murphy Author on FaceBook for updates on the many adventures of Roz, David—and Bob.

 Book Description

 When recently-deceased Irene Dunphy decided to “follow the light,” she thought she’d end up in Heaven or Hell and her journey would be over.

Boy, was she wrong.

She soon finds that “the other side” isn’t a final destination but a kind of purgatory where billions of spirits are stuck, with no way to move forward or back. Even worse, deranged phantoms known as “Hungry Ghosts” stalk the dead, intent on destroying them. The only way out is for Irene to forget her life on earth—including the boy who risked everything to help her cross over—which she’s not about to do.

As Irene desperately searches for an alternative, help unexpectedly comes in the unlikeliest of forms: a twelfth-century Spanish knight and a nineteenth-century American cowboy. Even more surprising, one offers a chance for redemption; the other, love. Unfortunately, she won’t be able to have either if she can’t find a way to escape the hellish limbo where they’re all trapped.

Thereafter would not have been possible without your support—thank you all! I hope you love this beautiful new cover as much as I do, and I hope you find Thereafter to be worth the wait.

 Excerpt

 Her hand touched a rock, one of the flat beach stones she’d seen on graves. She picked it up, laying it flat in her palm. She didn’t remember picking this up. In fact, she had been careful not to take any. It had seemed disrespectful and too much like stealing to remove them, and while she’d seen a few here—both loose and piled in cairns—she hadn’t picked any of them up. There had been no point. What would she do with a rock?

No wonder her bag was so heavy.

She tossed the rock over her shoulder and heard it hit the ground with a satisfying thud some distance away. It felt good to be rid of something, to make a decision and be sure it was the right one.

She surveyed the pile again and then grabbed a small handful of paper animals. She picked one up between a finger and thumb. It was a horse. Irene had been in Chinatown during Chinese Ghost Festival, a holiday in which the living left offerings for the dead. These offerings included paper replicas of things people thought the dead would need in the afterlife—money, clothes, television sets, and even animals. Irene had admired the precise and delicate folds of the Origami figures and had picked some up to admire them more closely. Without thinking, she had dropped them into her bag and apparently been carrying them ever since.

Well, even Jonah couldn’t argue with her on this—there was no way she was going to need a paper horse on her journey through the afterlife. Plus, these didn’t hold any sentimental value. She cast the horse onto a nearby fire and watched as the paper curled and blackened in the low-burning flames.

The fire leapt and seemed to glow blue for a moment. Irene tensed—what was happening?

Thick black smoke began to rise slowly from the flames, spiraling upward in a thickening column. The smoke grew denser and then elongated sideways. Irene leapt to her feet and backed away, her heart pounding. Something was forming in the fire.

The smoke was taking shape now; there was purpose and design in its movements. She could see a long, horizontal back, four legs, a neck, and finally a head and a tail. The smoke swirled with a final flourish and then shuddered into the solidity of a smoke-colored horse. The animal blinked passively. Then it violently shook its head, blew out a breath, and delicately picked its way forward out of the fire. It immediately put its head down and began to lip the ground, looking for food.

Irene stared stupidly at it. “Are you shitting me?”

I’m really excited to share Tara Neideffer’s wonderful news.

She is working on the next novel in the Mia Rushton series and would like to share the cover with you for Under Haunted Skies. I will be happy to keep you informed of the relesase date in the near future.

I love the eerie, painterly effect of the cover. I feel the hair on the back of my neck stand up as I shout at Mia, “Don’t go into the house!” I know she will and I can hardly wait to read this  exciting haunted story by Tara Neideffer.

Tracing the entities past back to a popular, real haunted house, Mia finds herself in the middle of one of the most terrifying hauntings she has ever known. Will she find a way to escape the house’s grasp or will she find herself as a permanent resident?

Blitz Tour for The Cowboy and the Vampire by Hays & McFall

The_Cowboy_and_the_Vampire_Banner_450_x_169The title of The Cowboy and the Vampire by Hays and McFall had me chuckling to myself. That made me feel like I had to participate in this tour for a vampire story of a different kind.

Let ‘er buck!

The Cowboy and the Vampire Reboot

 The phrase “you can’t judge a book by its cover” is a lie. It’s a damn lie. People do it all the time. Art is truth.

To mark the upcoming May 2014 release of the third book in The Cowboy and the Vampire Collection, the series was treated to a gothic western makeover, with artwork commissioned exclusively for the series.

“We wanted to give readers something special and the new covers get right to the heart of the series,” said co-author Hays. “Go on and judge the books by these covers! They bring together the paranormal and the western elements perfectly, setting a dark tone with just a hint of the humor.”

“Each time you look at the images, you see something a bit different, even more of the opposites-attract romantic theme pops, and the overtones of simmering passion,” said co-author McFall.

Get caught up on the love between Tucker and Lizzie now before the release of book three.

“Strong writing, funny characters … riveting.” – Kirkus Reviews

Welcome back to LonePine, Wyoming. It’s like any other slowly dying town in the modern American West. Except it’s suddenly lousy with vampires.

Cultures clash as the vampire illuminati ride into town to settle ancient scores, test loyalties and thrash out a new world order. Can the fragile relationship between a cowboy and a vampire survive lust, betrayal and country music?

Grab the reins and hold on tight as Tucker and Lizzie stampede through rural America and across the vampire afterlife, desperate to protect their unlikely love.

 A Tangled Publishing History

 The first book of this series, A Very Unusual Romance, was published in 1999, long before the vampire craze. With comparisons to Anne Rice and Zane Grey, the book gained a devoted following with initial sales of more than 10,000 print units. Fast forward a decade, and the publisher (Llewellyn) brought out the book as a second edition in 2010, aiming to capitalize on the Twilight mega-hit. Meanwhile, the authors wrote the second book in the series — Blood and Whiskey — bringing it out under their own imprint (Pumpjack Press, 2012). In 2013, they gained the rights back for the original book, and now, with book three poised for publication in May 2014, the restored Cowboy and Vampire series has been redesigned with exclusive art and is coming out for the first time in 15 years as a complete collection. Yippi-ki-yay!

About the artist

When asked about his biggest artistic influences, Aaron Perkins says there are too many to name, but when pressed mentions Gustav Klimt, Modigliani and the full-on art deco and nouveau movements, abstraction expressionism and surrealism. Aaron is also a big fan of concert poster art. That heady and diverse collection of inspiration shows up in The Cowboy and Vampire Collection covers.

BLURB

Since Cassandra Graystone was a child and her family perished in a fire she knows and sees things other people don’t…when someone will die or that a demon lurks beneath a human skin. She sees phantoms. Yet she craves a simple life singing out with her musician brother, Johnny, and caring for her elderly aunt and uncle; to be with her friends, Sarah, a psychic, and Walter, a clown in a carnival circuit. But when Sarah sees apocalyptic events in her tarot cards and demons are everywhere, Cassandra fears she’s going insane or something terrifying is happening in the world. Rayner, an ancient blood demon, lodges next door. He becomes obsessed with her. Never having felt pity or affection for a human before he believes he loves her, would die to protect her. The demon realm gathers for the final confrontation between us, Rayner warns. The apocalypse comes. You and your friends must prepare. Cassandra flees that knowledge until an angelic being, Manasseh, appears. Your powers will grow. You must fight for humanity’s survival after the first wave is taken. Seek out others like you. Persuade them to join the battle. Only these can see and challenge the demons until the end when all eyes see them. She doesn’t want her life to change; doesn’t want to be a nomad who battles demons. Doesn’t want to be anyone’s protector. Until a tornado flattens Sarah’s house. Johnny’s apartment. There are monsters maiming and killing everywhere. Demons persecute her and those she loves, burn down her home and force her family and friends onto the road, as everywhere cataclysmic weather and signs of the end days make things hellish for humans. Cassandra and her friends can no longer deny their destinies. They must fight…or see the remnants of humanity engulfed in flames.
