EXCERPT

Kay gave Storm an amused look. “In some ways this feels more familiar than watching TV with my wife. ”

They were separating from Ram and Rev, going opposite ways in an alley. Storm looked back over his shoulder at Ram and Rev walking away. On a whim he called out, “Sol!” Without hesitation, Rev turned and said, “Yeah?”

The four of them stood frozen, Storm and Rev staring at each other, Kay and Ram looking back and forth between the two. Let it never be said that Ram didn’t know how to handle a situation delicately. “What the fuck, Stormy?”

“You know, that’s a good question, Ram. And well put.” Storm didn’t take his eyes off Rev.

“Something you want to tell us.”

Rev pursed his lips before growling. “No.”

“You sure?”

“You gone hard of hearing?”

Storm’s gaze was a concentrated challenge, pinning Rev in place, but he moved in close enough for quiet conversation.

“How about clueing us in, brother,” Kay was as calm as the eye of a hurricane as he nudged Storm. “What’s going on here?”

“Has it seemed to you that there are things about the new Sovereign that seem familiar? Eerily so?”

“Like what?” Ram asked as he eyed Rev from top to bottom.

“Oh, like the fact that he smokes the same brand of Turkish cigars that Sol used to smoke. And lights them with an old school fluid lighter. Then he puts the lighter down in front of him and turns it around and around the same way Sol used to.” Kay turned his attention toward Rev and began regarding him with increased interest. “How about the way he screws up his mouth when he’s aggravated or the way he steeples his fingers when he’s making a decision?”

Rev lifted his chin in defiance and narrowed his eyes at Storm. “And let’s not forget the fact that he took a bead on Farnsworth about thirty seconds after arriving Jefferson Unit. Doesn’t it strike you as a little strange that he handles Sol’s job like he knows what he’s doing? No. Not like he knows what he’s doing. Like he’s done it before!”

Ram eased around in front of Rev so that the three veteran members of B Team appeared united as the inquisitors they had just become. They stood in a dimly lit alley with accusation hanging in the air, waiting for Rev to answer.

“Your imagination’s just got the better of you, Sir Storm.”

“There! Right there. I never met another knight who called me Sir Storm. But Sol did.” Storm glanced at Kay. “All the time. Called me Mr. Storm when I was a kid. Switched to Sir Storm when I was inducted.” He stepped closer to Rev. “When I called Sol’s name, you turned around like you’d been answering to that name your whole life.”

Ram and Kay were giving Rev looks that said the questions weren’t going to go away just by staring Storm down. Finally Rev replied with the cool of an iceberg.

“So what are you saying? Exactly? That I’m a body snatcher?”

“What I’m doing right now is asking questions.”

“I don’t have answers for you.”

“NO!” Rev’s answer was a little too forceful and a little too quick.

“Start talking.” Rev blew out a breath and looked around at the alley.

”Let’s go sit down somewhere private.” He ran a hand through his hair. “I’ll buy a round of drinks and tell you a story. Not about me mind you. A story about a guy I heard of.”

Blitz Tour for The Cowboy and the Vampire by Hays & McFall

The_Cowboy_and_the_Vampire_Banner_450_x_169The title of The Cowboy and the Vampire by Hays and McFall had me chuckling to myself. That made me feel like I had to participate in this tour for a vampire story of a different kind.

Let ‘er buck!

The Cowboy and the Vampire Reboot

 The phrase “you can’t judge a book by its cover” is a lie. It’s a damn lie. People do it all the time. Art is truth.

To mark the upcoming May 2014 release of the third book in The Cowboy and the Vampire Collection, the series was treated to a gothic western makeover, with artwork commissioned exclusively for the series.

“We wanted to give readers something special and the new covers get right to the heart of the series,” said co-author Hays. “Go on and judge the books by these covers! They bring together the paranormal and the western elements perfectly, setting a dark tone with just a hint of the humor.”

“Each time you look at the images, you see something a bit different, even more of the opposites-attract romantic theme pops, and the overtones of simmering passion,” said co-author McFall.

Get caught up on the love between Tucker and Lizzie now before the release of book three.

“Strong writing, funny characters … riveting.” – Kirkus Reviews

Welcome back to LonePine, Wyoming. It’s like any other slowly dying town in the modern American West. Except it’s suddenly lousy with vampires.

Cultures clash as the vampire illuminati ride into town to settle ancient scores, test loyalties and thrash out a new world order. Can the fragile relationship between a cowboy and a vampire survive lust, betrayal and country music?

Grab the reins and hold on tight as Tucker and Lizzie stampede through rural America and across the vampire afterlife, desperate to protect their unlikely love.

 A Tangled Publishing History

 The first book of this series, A Very Unusual Romance, was published in 1999, long before the vampire craze. With comparisons to Anne Rice and Zane Grey, the book gained a devoted following with initial sales of more than 10,000 print units. Fast forward a decade, and the publisher (Llewellyn) brought out the book as a second edition in 2010, aiming to capitalize on the Twilight mega-hit. Meanwhile, the authors wrote the second book in the series — Blood and Whiskey — bringing it out under their own imprint (Pumpjack Press, 2012). In 2013, they gained the rights back for the original book, and now, with book three poised for publication in May 2014, the restored Cowboy and Vampire series has been redesigned with exclusive art and is coming out for the first time in 15 years as a complete collection. Yippi-ki-yay!

Launch, ARC Review & Giveaway I Am Forever by Wynne Channing

Wynne Channing’s sequel to What Kills Me, I Am Forever, is now available.

I have a lot to share, but it is all so good, I can’t help myself.

The covers are beautiful but the story inside………

An ancient prophecy warns of a girl destined to cause the extinction of the vampire race.

Thus, Axelia’s story began.

 photo goodreads-badge-add-38px11_zps1ae6e47f.jpg

ABOUT I AM FOREVER

Axelia fought an army of vampires and survived. Once fated as the destroyer of the vampire race, she is now welcomed into the immortal empire and revered as a god.

But instead of relishing her victory, she faces a dangerous new world and an empire at war. Axelia is thrust into the position of supreme vampire and caught in the crossfire of battle. To make matters worse, her role alienates Lucas, the one vampire that she trusts.

Her power spawns evil enemies. And they know how to get to her — by hurting those whom she loves most.

MY REVIEW FOR I AM FOREVER BY WYNNE CHANNING

I am a Super Vampire. So, why am I locked up with Lucas in an empty room, while the Empress and her cronies decide our fate?

They can’t kill me or they all die.

~~~
Spoiler Alert: I Am Forever is the sequel to What Kills Me. I will do my best to give little or nothing away, because I feel this book is even better than the first and I would like you to experience it for yourself.
The covers for Wynne’s books are beautiful. I love the colors and the effect of shattered glass. It’s an indication of what is to come as Axelia continues her battle to stay alive and retain her freedom.
Wynne writes in such vivid detail, I can breathe in the heavy scent of the botanical garden through the thick humid air. I can feel the moisture beading on my skin and dripping down my back. It is easy to relate to the excellent description, when you live in a Gulf state, as I do.
Her description of the doctor looking like Ernie from Sesame Street had me laughing out loud.
Wynne describes how vampires date by comparing it to Lady and the Tramp eating spaghetti. I bet that is a visual that will take you a while to erase from your mind.
Ever since the accident that made her a vampire, the Sacriva’s prophecy has ruled her life:
A human girl will be reborn a vampire. She will shed the blood of all those who walk in darkness. She will be the first. She will mean the death of all Vampires.
Axelia – not only was she super powerful, she was also immune to the sun. She didn’t need to breathe, but her senses were heightened and she would do it just to enjoy the smells. She had been a seventeen year old high school student, until two weeks ago. Now she is a God, but she would give her life for Lucas.
Lucas – incredibly brave. He made Axelia feel safe, having saved her life more than once. He stuck to her like glue and would die for her.
Wynne keeps me on the fence about Uther. Is he good? Is he bad? Is he trustworthy and naive or just evil? You will have to read for yourself to find out.
But the Empress, I know what she is. My question is – does Axelia?
I was disappointed in Axelia’s actions with the Empress, but I kept saying to myself, “She is seventeen years old and has only been a Vampire for two weeks.” How would I react? Or you?
Axelia’s story kept getting better. Wynne manages to have me laughing, even as heads are flying – I mean that literally. The war continues in I Am Forever and I stand by Axelia as I try to tell her to watch out for……..She only wants to have a life and I want that for her.
MY REVIEW
ABOUT WHAT KILLS ME
An ancient prophecy warns of a girl destined to cause the extinction of the vampire race.
So when 17-year-old Axelia falls into a sacred well filled with blood and emerges a vampire, the immortal empire believes she is this legendary destroyer. Hunted by soldiers and mercenaries, Axelia and her reluctant ally, the vampire bladesmith Lucas, must battle to survive.
How will she convince the empire that she is just an innocent teenager-turned bloodsucker and not a creature of destruction? And if she cannot, can a vampire who is afraid of bugs summon the courage to fight a nation of immortals?
Review for Cursed by S J Harper
Cursed
Book One in the Fallen Siren Series
Release Date October 1, 2013
Meet FBI Agents Emma Monroe and Zack Armstrong.
She’s cursed. He’s damned. Together, they make one hell of a team. Emma Monroe is a Siren, cursed by the gods and bound to earth to atone for an ancient failure. Emma and Zack’s very first case draws them deep into the realm of the paranormal and forces them to use their own supernatural abilities. My Review
Emma and Zack are both seeking a form of redemption for their past.
Emma is a siren, a seductress, cursed for a past failure. She uses the power of glamour to hide her true self from others. She can compel people to tell the truth. She uses her magic like a profiler uses his intuition and S J Harper’s writing makes it so believable. Emma specializes in finding missing persons.
Zack is a werewolf and a Special Agent trying to make up for the lives he took in his former life.
When they team up, their skills reach a higher level.
~~~~~~

By the second page I was laughing and loving the writing style.

“….good romp with a guy just because he goes furry a few days every month.”

Cursed runs the gamut of magical creatures in the supernatural world – werewolves, vampires, Gods, devils, demons, shapeshifters…..

Cursed is a story, where the supernatural and reality exist side by side. The writing is so believable that I got lost as I teamed up with Emma and Zack to find out what was happening to the missing women.

I love a good mystery. Toss in some romance to round out the story and I am hooked.

The details of how they go about collecting information is just like watching the crime shows – Criminal Minds, CSI and NCIS – checking phone records, emails, even Facebook. Patience is a key necessity for an investigator and it pays well to have an extra little something for interrogation, like magic.

I loved the blend of reality and supernatural.

The characters are easy to relate to. We all have personal problems and Emma and Zack are no exceptions, theirs just had an extra supernatural element. There are hate crimes and politics. They read like current events.

“…what kind of bad guy would break into someone’s house to fix breakfast?”

“Wait. I know this one….a cereal killer?”

“What are you? Agents of the FBI’s X-files Bureau?”

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos 4 STARS – Would Highly Recommend To Others

I was given a first edition paperback for a review for the tour. I am looking forward to reading more books in the Fallen Siren Series.

Heartsearch: Found: Book II by Carlie M A Cullen

This is Book II, Heartsearch: Found by Carlie M A Cullen. I have so many things I want to tell you, but I am going to try my best to keep this spoiler free for those who haven’t read Heartsearch: Lost, Book I.

To see my 5 STAR Review of Heartsearch: Lost, Book I, go HERE. The ending for Heartsearch: Lost was awesome! I could rant and rave more, but I would really like you to pick up the books and enjoy the read without me ruining it for you.

If you love Vampires, this is a must read trilogy. Carlie’s take on Vampires is unique and original. I didn’t think anyone could come up with a new twist, but Carlie did it and did it extremely well.

MY REVIEW

First off, let me say, that raving about this series makes me laugh. I love thrillers, suspense and mystery, with a little paranormal on the side. I have only started reading Vampire books since I started blogging, which was a little over a year ago. My sister, Laura, over at fuonlyknew, got me in to all this and for that I THANK YOU, Laura. I had no idea what I was missing.

Book II, Heartsearch: Found picks up the action from the very first page.

I fell in love and hate with the characters, regardless of them being ruthless, blood thirty killers.

I hate Samir – egotistical and selfish – everything you think a Vampire would be.

I love/dislike Joshua – almost human in his feelings for Remy.

Remy – what can I say? I love her. Strong female protagonists are my favorite characters. I like to think I would deal with things the way she does, but no one ever really knows what they will do until the time comes to do it.

The suspense and anticipation drove me to read faster, resisting the urge to skip ahead.

Carlie’s writing is nothing less than amazing. I am having difficulty in describing how amazing this story is. I am going to have to start studying my Thesaurus to expand my word selection. I have never read a Vampire novel like this. Carlie’s description of the horrific and excruciating pain one endures when changing into a Vampire was fantastic.

Sometimes I forget the characters are Vampires. Evil, gross, disgusting, selfish, giving, loving, passionate, sexy…….

I want it to end – happy ever after – but they’re Vampires. Is that even possible?

I love how Carlie’s mind thinks. She is a superb storyteller.

Sometimes the second book in the series is not as good. All I can say is, the story keeps getting better.

Oh no, I didn’t see it coming. The book ran out of pages. I DEMAND Heartsearch: Betrayal, Book III.

I want it and I want it now!

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos   5 STARS – Would Buy It For Them (lol)

I received this book in return for an honest and unbiased review for Heartsearch: Found. Thank you Carlie for the opportunity to participate in the release tour for Heartsearch: Found, Book II. I look forward to working with you again, when Heartsearch: Betrayal, Book III comes out.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi Carlie. Welcome to my blog. I have been anticipating which guest post suggestion you would choose and what you would have to share with us. I love learning about authors and characters, so this was an excellent choice.
When Sherry asked me to write about which of my characters I’d like to be and why, I had an “oh, poop!” moment. Which one do I choose? It would have been far easier to wax lyrical on the person I’d least like to be!
Every one of my main characters has their good and bad points, their admirable and not so admirable qualities. Some of them even possess some rather cool powers. So which one do I pick?
After heaps of soul-searching and hours of contemplation, I think I would have to go with Remy – my main female protagonist.
Remy is a beautiful, intelligent young woman. She’s got a great job, a wonderful fiancé who loves her to bits, a nice home and is on the verge of getting married. Sound too good to be true? Well it was. It was after Joshua vanished, Remy really began to find herself – who she is inside.
Despite all the heartache, emotion, pain and loneliness Remy suffers, she also finds an inner strength she didn’t know she possessed. It keeps her going on her long journey to try and find Joshua.
I admire Remy for the courage she showed to embark on such a difficult journey – not just because of how taxing it would be physically, but also the mental strain it would place upon her. The strength of her love for Joshua is intense and magnificent. How many of us would have the strength of character to put our life on hold and set off alone with only a vague plan and a raging desire to find our loved one? And to have the will to keep going after multiple rejections in every location visited?
Even when strange and frightening things begin to happen to Remy, leaving her questioning her sanity, she never once considers giving up the search. When she’s physically forced to abandon her voyage, she clings onto the love held so dear and the hope that she’ll find Joshua before too long. (I’m not giving away any spoilers, so you’ll have to read the books to find out if she does!)
Remy still maintains her sense of humour through it all, which I think is wonderful. It would be too easy in her situation to become completely melancholy and self-absorbed, yet she doesn’t. Her family, especially her twin, help to keep her spirits up; the relationship she has with Becky is fabulous and quite typical of identical twins. I grew up as an only child and envy Remy and Becky their closeness.
She isn’t perfect; like any human, she experiences doubts, has negative thoughts and days when it’s a struggle to take that next step. In her frustration she injures herself, gives into crying jags and drowns her sorrows a couple of times. But she can be forgiven for all of this and so much more, as her good points far outweigh the bad. And let’s face it – who among us wouldn’t react badly when nursing a broken heart?
In summation, Remy has the courage of her convictions and finds the inner strength to see them through, regardless of what’s thrown across her path. How can I not admire someone like that?
I hope I’m never in her position, but if I was, would I be as strong as Remy? I’d like to think so.
That was awesome Carlie. Thanks so much for stopping by and chatting.
Review of Heartsearch: Lost, Book I by Carlie M A Cullen
Be sure and take a gander at the Found book trailer at the end of the post. Carlie tells her story of how Heartsearch came to be.
My Review of Heartsearch: Lost, Book I. I will have to apologize before hand for getting so carried away and rambling on in my review about this book. If you love Vampires and haven’t read these, you will not regret picking up a copy today. I want to tell you, so much, how this book ends, but then………………
SYNOPSIS
He had waited so long for THIS human.
Joshua had visited South Weald Country Park many times. He had no idea that this time would be life changing.
As I thought of becoming Mrs. Joshua Grant, I couldn’t help but smile. Joshua met me at the airport. His kiss was very passionate. We made love that night and I awoke to find bruises all over my body. I guess he really did miss me. I managed to keep it from him, but when we made love again, I awoke in the morning feeling even more pain. It wasn’t just bruises this time. There were long, raw scratches down my arms and thighs. Before I could cover up, he came in the room. He saw what he had done and fell to his knees, crying. He ran from the house.
After Remy left for work, Joshua returned to the house. He saw the wedding lists on the table. He grabbed a pen and pad and wrote, “Dear Remy………….”
MY REVIEW
I had heard a lot about this book from my sister at fuonlyknew. She fell in love with it. Myself, I thought, oh another vampire book. I take my Vampires in small doses. Thrillers and mysteries are my favorites, with the paranormal and horror next in line. Was I in for a huge surprise. I have read thousands of books, so to surprise me is huge kudos to the author.
I was immediately drawn in and the story never let me go. It is so well written that the pages passed quickly beneath my eyes. I was in a hurry to find out how this would go.
The story is told from two different points of view, Remy’s and Joshua’s. Carlie did really well blending them together so I didn’t loose track of what was happening going back and forth.
Remy’s love was so strong that she couldn’t let him go. She went in “Search” of him. As Remy starts to dream, my hand reaches to turn the page. Oops, no page, it’s my Kindle. How would you “Search” ? Where to begin once the obvious is done? I guess that is why a show like America’s Most Wanted is such a hit. John Walsh, the host, is a prime example of how far some people will go to get an answer.
At first I really didn’t like how callous the vampires were, then I thought, that’s how they are supposed to be. Cold, self-centered, unfeeling. Carlie’s vampires seemed more realistic. Realistic? LOL. Before I knew it, I was laughing at myself. Is there such a thing as a nice vampire? I think I fell for Joshua. How could that be? Can a Vampire be a good guy?
Remy had been bubbly, outgoing, an extrovert, the life of the party type. As Carlie talks about the pain of her loss, I could feel her determination to find him.
When Remy was people watching, I smiled. I remember my girlfriend, who is no longer with us. We used to sit and watch people, trying to figure out who they were, what they did for a living, what car they drove…..I still love to people watch, but it just isn’t the same. I love a book that gets my mind working and I get more from the book than just the author’s story. Thanks Carlie for stretching my mind.
I FREAKED OUT at the ending. Caught me totally off guard. A huge surprise. I thought it was going to be one thing and it was another. I laughed out loud because I never saw it coming.
Carlie is awesome at throwing you a curve ball, so don’t think you know what is going to happen before it does. You are sure to be shocked and amazed. Her ability to tell a story about vampires that is so unique is mind blowing. I have never read a vampire book like this and I loved where she took it. I cannot even guess where she will take me next. I am so glad I have Book II so I don’t have to wait.
